    This is the first time I comment on TH-cam. Both Japan & Thailand teams played well. But the officiating was the worst I have ever seen in my life. I am a 63 years old volleyball fan. A game should never determine by a referre. If the equipment is not functioning, then do it manually not just refusing the team to make player changes etc. Equipment malfunction happens to all sport not just in volleyball but the officials must have a backup plan. Just refusing to the team because the equipment is not working is not an option. I think the head referre in this game is doing a very poor job and should not be allowed to officiating any future games again until he learns the way to fairly officate a game. We, the fan are the one supporting the sport, without fan support, no sport will survive. By the way I am 100% supporting the video challenge, it is fair and precise.

      Well the substitution problem has been happenning to the other teams as well in this tourney. (I.e Japan vs Korea where Japan had a sub error but made less of a fuss about it)

      It is partially Thailand's coach fault for not keeping his cool. I think it was the yellow or first red card where their coach wanted a challenge but their past two were unsuccessful so the rec refused and then the coach complained

    From Thai coach,
    “In my life something like this has never happened. I have been a volleyball coach for 20 years and never saw this.”
    “I asked why the touch panels were not displaying member changes and I asked for a clarification and I was given a red card.”
    “Then I asked again why the tablets were not displaying the members and got the second red card. It was very unfair to the Thai team. We play with sportsmanship. This judgment was not right. The match is over now and we have to accept the result.”

      1st red card was misbehaviour of the coach, its not a foot fault. Hence not challengeable, some players can even go under the net to dig a ball back.
      He insists on challenging so he deserves it. He should have just kept his cool and would have won.

Cant you see the thai's were having some technical problems but they couldnt do anything no matter how hard their trying to put down, especially how the coach is trying his best for his players despite not having any backup and nobody jumping in to help? Thats just sad how people like you cant see that. Maybe try putting yourself in their shoes facing that cause they were close to winning but had no choice to stop over a stupid error and the referee was making it worse or basically not helping like how referee's should whatsoever. Moroll of everything was it isnt fair and in my oppinion, thailand should've been given a chance again or to explain properly of what was going on instead but they didnt. +athletevball Yes, how do you do a double substitution? The system is being trialled and it will get better but it should also stop the nonsense of subs or no-subs and trying to waste time by coaches.
      Be clear about your subs and enter it in the tablets but they should also accept hand signals along with the tab just in case the tab did not work. The tablet is used to time out and you can also see the coach signalling time out - maybe to their own players; i don't know.

This game isnt about him but his players. It is his fault for their team loss. This was such a great game, but Thailand's coach should have shown sportsmanship towards everyone. I am a fan of China team but I have been watching this tournament with interest. Thai coach could have been calmer, but I cannot see the necessity of awarding 2 penalty points against Thailand in the decisive final set. This is unprecedented in important FIVB matches. The first referee's facial expression at 13:12 was disgusting, as if saying, "I couldn't care less, off you go!". I think FIVB must conduct a serious investigation into today's match and the IT system at the venue. Teams should not be denied to change players simply because coaches might not be completely familiar with the operation of the system (which was not used in the World Cup or the Grand Prix). The last point in set 4 and the two penalty points in set 5 are but three points, but these few points are decisive to the determination of the match and the qualification of the participating teams into the Olympics. This is apparently the last chance for both teams to get to the Olympics. How much time, effort, sweat, tears, sacrifice, resources and national expectation are involved in the preparation of this match? Fair play must be enforced and be seen to be enforced.

    I was all heart and soul for the Japan team, but even me got mad for the Thai situation with the points. It was unfair and they deserved to fight for every point, not to be given away because of a misunderstanding of a referee.

      FIVB needs to change and it will. It will take time. Cheating only take away respect for a team as it did in this case. My favorite players, like Ebata, Ishii, Yamaguchi, Nagaoka, will suffer because Japanese team has now tiny bit less respect from me. Will root more for others whenever possible.

    While the tablet works perfectly on Japanese side, it didn't work well on Thai side. Strange isn't it ?
    After the game, Thailand team said the tablet did NOT work at all, they tried to change the player and call for challenge but nothing happened.
    In frustration, one Thai coach had put it simply: "the tech aren't working, cant you (referees) use common sense?"
    These technology things should aid referees but should not totally override their judgement and burden the game.
    About the 4th set (THA 23-24 JPN), Thailand wanted to substitute Yupa, 166-cm who's a defensive player and apparently not a choice for front row defense, with Thatdao (she was standing in the right position holding the number readily), but the referee did NOT allow the change due to NO SUBSTITUTION SIGNAL reaching their system. Meanwhile in Japan side, Araki replaced Nabeya with no problem and in that point they hit the ball through blocks easily. This "NO SIGNAL" problem also happened to Thailand two times in the 5th set.
    That FB reported something more from that conference (read on). Thai representatives told that they need to WAIT SO LONG for enabling SIGNAL from the LOCAL STAFF of the tournament. WITHOUT THAT SIGNAL, they cannot do anything with the tablet. That resulted in TWO red cards for delaying the game. And NO FIVB staff was there to support the system.
    WHY Technology thing was NOT working in crucial moments for Thailand? It's very dubious! This is not just a matter of a sore loser losing many points in a streak... it is something about the Smart tablet which was not smart at the crucial times caused a series of subsequent devastating problems!!
    *_"Assistant Coach of the Thai Team said it would take time to understand the manual, WITHOUT actually using it. The FIRST TIME they actually practiced it was during the real match. However there seemed to be a SIGNAL DELAY that prevents the push of the buttons in time. He added that the SIGNAL CONTROLLER WHO RELAYED THE SIGNALS TO THE REFEREE IS A JAPANESE. Due to his nationality impartiality, who would guarantee that the signal delay faced by the Thai side was not artificially caused by this person."_* - Read further at below post.

      *Report of Teams Meeting after the Thailand Japan Match (on May 19, 2016 at 7pm)*
      Context Translation from Member of the Thailand Team from this FaceBook:
      The FIVB invited the eight teams participating in this tournament to meet to resolve the issue of TABLETS. Initially FIVB has asked representative of each team whether they have faced any problem in using the tablet so far. Each team presented quite similar problems on the signal delay on the player substitution, but not much on the challenges.
      For Thailand, the Thai manager reported that his tablet did NOT work properly, causing SIGNAL DELAYS for several moments when the Thai team tried to use the tablet for PLAYER SUBSTITUTION AS WELL AS FOR CHALLENGING. This MALFUNCTION OF TABLET FUNCTION eventually caused the Thai Coach yellow cards followed by red cards. It was annoying that FIVB tried to conclude that the problem lied with the improper use of the tablet. All FIVB said was that FIVB has distributed the user manual earlier, and stressed that any technical problems found should be reported. However, no single team ever came back with any issue on the use of tablet.
      Assistant Coach of the Thai Team said it would take time to understand the manual, WITHOUT actually using it. Due to his nationality impartiality, who would guarantee that the signal delay faced by the Thai side was not artificially caused by this person.
      Again, the FIVB informed the meeting that the use of tablets had been well-tested with most up-to-date technology and proved 99% effective. The reason for this Meeting was only to hear from all teams of problems so they can be completely resolved before this system is used at the Brazil Olympic. The Japanese team was unhappy and asked why FIVB used this tournament as a guinea pig.
      Then, each team was allowed to provide problems faced in using this new system. Thailand has informed that there was no signal in its tablet to allow any possible request for player substitution. When Thai Coach tried to report this signal malfunction to the Referee, instead of listening and providing a fair solution, the Referee chose to give yellow card and red card. However, FIVB kept on repeating that they have provided user manual in advance. Should there be any technical problem with the tablet, they should have reported to FIVB before the match so the technical problem can be resolve in time.
      The FIVB tried to explain further the use of the tablets. However, most teams lost interest and one by one left the meeting. Eventually only Italy and Thailand remained. The Thai Representative tried to repeat the same explanation how the Coach tried to report the malfunction problem of the system to the Referee. Then the FIVB asked why the Thai Coach did not try to contact the authority that regulated the functioning of the tablets. The Thai side said there was no such authority to contact for the last 3-4 days. When the FIVB pointed at a Japanese Officer, the Thai side said this lady is not technical staff, but a coordinator (and most importantly she is a Japanese).
      After some more discussions on the use of the tablets, and as it appears that the FIVB did NOT intend to understand the real issue of the event, Thailand finally left the meeting with NO problem resolved.
      facebook.com/preechachan
      FIVB just tried to explain how that system works. Most of team represents were out before the end of that meeting. It looks like FIVB want to push that tablet matter so hard.

      +Samsara Chomolangma Funny isn't it? I saw that happened to Netherlands (vs Dominican Republic) earlier. Prolly someone was testing the virus or something. I doubt why substitutions must go through the tablet. What if the tablet is broken!? The Thai coach should just break the tablet into 2 halves and ask for a new one right the way.

    • @SamsaraChomolangma2020
      @SamsaraChomolangma2020 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      andtam008 and that dumb tablet thing manifested in two red cards (alias two free points for JPN in the crucial stage plus denial for their player substitutions both in the 4th & 5th sets at the very critical stages & inability to do challenges) may have costed Thai their very first ticket to play in Olympics!!! POOR THAILAND !!!

    • @andtam008
      @andtam008 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Well, I actually that 2 point didn't matter. Thai players were already distracted from the game and stopped playing. They were thinking like we were cheated, not focusing in the next point. That's why they lost 7 points straight plus 2 penalty points.
      Better leadership would say "let this go, focus on the next point and next point only, we are better than them and we can beat them. Let's go play and beat them."

    • @SamsaraChomolangma2020
      @SamsaraChomolangma2020 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      andtam008 there's truth in what you said, their coach should have maintained his composure and leadership. However, it's all started by the sh*tty tablet thing, since the 4th set... it seems by all means JPN must play in Rio OG... it's very tough to beat the host with those assists, unless the team have KOR or ITA qualities :-) lol
      And of course if your team is the world's top five, they can surely overcome such assists!

What was the reason why the tab was not working? And in the 5th set, this is too much. Thailand should've won this match. Why would the referee do that? There are more questions in this match left unanswered. Yet, The FIVB ignored what happened in this match. 2 red cards in a set? 2 substitutions not allowed? What FIVB?

So that is why the players of Thailand lost their momentum , because of unfair decision I hope it will not happen again . Thailand was so amazing since in the first game and second all of sudden they lost their momentum . Why ? Because of this unfair decision of the referees in the third game...THAILAND WAS THE WINNER IN THIS MATCH

    I don't get every viewers frustrations. Everyone is acting like Japan asked for those points but it was Thailands coach that lost his cool was warned and still crossed the line. It's not like he didn't know they would get a point after being warned.
    Not to mention the free point Thailand got early in set 5 after it bounced off the ground before hitting the dig. Just watch the slow mo clip, it's clearly grounded and that's when Japan stopped playing and that's how momentum changes. Things might have counted up differently had that counted at first. But we'll never know.

    Agree that it was a little unfortunate and unfair for the Thai team on the substitution problem. However if one really follows the Thai Women's volleyball Team since their maiden Gold in the 2009 Asian Championship; you will see the real reason in the failures of the Thai team in recent years. 4 of the starting 6 of this game, 5 - N. Thinkaow, 6.- O. Sittirak, 13 - N, Tomkom, 15 - M. Kanthong, were all in the 2009 Asian Championship Gold medal squad. While the other teams have got younger talents coming in and improved, The Thai team is still relying on their old guards and have remain stagnant since 2009.Sad to say, the Thai team has not seen many young and upcoming talents that can replace the old guards in recent years. Yet, the Thais have not seemed to accept this fact and are still reminiscing in their past glories, and thinking that they are still the same force back in 2009 - 2013. Just my 2 cents.Coming back to this match, I think Thailand lost it themselves. They only have themselves to blame. At 12 - 6, final set, in Japan, against Japan, and the coach had been warned again and again, the coach of Thailand should have known better than everyone else that he and his team will be better off if you just regroup and concentrate on winning the match. Sorry Thailand, you girls are still a great team, but the truth is your coach lost it for you.
