    ATTENTION: As the author of this content, I humbly stand before you and confess I misspoke when I referred to the speakon type connection as a Tekton connection. That is a mythical component and I have no idea where I heard it or read it or dreamed it! My bad! Just know that in an infinite universe there are an infinite number of connectors, so there must be one called Tekton (probably on planet Tekton). I wish I was there now! My apologies to ZU, Sean, and loyal viewers across the planet! I will try harder! Thanks to @jedi-mic for busting me! Everyone knows Tekton is a brand of cable. I mean, I think!

    Top tip for those with a Wiim streamer or other DSP means: with rough recordings apply a single PEQ at 2kHz center frequency, Q=0.5...1 (try out) and attenuation -2dB or maybe even -4dB. Makes music sound a bit smoother, takes out edges.

    Finally! You got a pair of Zu's! They are true FunFi! I run my DW6 Supremes on a little Cayin EL-84 tube amp, and they really sound good. Or the old Sansui 4000... Solid state, its OK, but tubes or vintage gear, a better fit with the Zu''s. Class A too, but still, even an inexpensive tube amp will light up a room. You can run the Zu's on a 9v battery for God's sake. Love mine, and my pair of Omen DW's.

    I did my own capacitor upgrade but didn't use the Jupiter cap that they sell on ZU- the cap that was on the budget version was a super cheap Bennic. But, using my capacitor, I think it was a very good Mundorf, the tweeter came in WAY too bright . I had to put potentiometers on the back to tone it down, not knowing the resistance value I might need. ZU has probably vetted the proper high grade capacitor you would need and after my experience I would stay with what they offer. Also, the full range woofer cone is so stiff I would spring for the factory break-in to get more bass

I’ve been curious about these speakers and the Klipsch Heritage line (Heresies or Fortes) How do they compare to your Klipsch Fortes in terms of sound? How do they play in small spaces? Thanks for your great reviews!!!

    • @UnitedStatesofAnalog
      @UnitedStatesofAnalog  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They are alike and different too. Remember... even maxed out the DWX will be a grand or two cheaper than the Forte. The bookshelf format may be more practical vs floorstanding for some. I also have Heresy 3 as well but haven't heard 4. But people say they are improved. I would say the Fortes are a tad smoother with some recordings and the DWX are revealing. I think the DWX need some room to breathe. I wish I could have listened to them in a bigger room here. That's my next experiment. I would reach out to Sean at ZU and get his take. They have great customer service and interaction. I love my Fortes and because of the size they are probably mine for life! But like I said, it's all about flavors! Both are super dynamic and fun! Tube electronics were better for the Zu, I thought. My opinion!

      @rawheadjim 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I bought some Zu Omen Mk2's last year to address a few shortcomings and they exceeded my expectations on all of them. Low listening volume was really poor with my last speakers, the Zu's still have great soundstage, imaging, and bass even at low volumes. While the Zu's will bring out the best in the vast majority of my music, only a small minority of poorly mastered music may not sound quite as good. But my last speakers were very picky and only about 1/3 of my music sounded great, the rest sounded OK or not great at all. Finally the Zu's are much more efficient and sound very good at all volumes, low, medium, and occasionally high. My last speakers had a very tiny window of volume where they sounded really good, otherwise it was no-go! One thing to note, placement is absolutely critical and it took me a while to find the sweet spot, but when I did they blew me away.

      I own two pairs of the Zu Dirty Weekends. I auditioned the first pair and could not part with my Benjamin’s fast enough. I put them next to one of Danny’s top picks, the KLH Model 5’s. Those Model 5’s were sold in a matter of hours on US Audiomart after setting up those Zu Omen DWs. I then bought a new pair of the DW6 Supremes and have not once questioned either purchase. I have a pair of Maggie LRS+ right next to them, and honestly, overall, prefer the Zu’s.
      You should try them out before you knock them.

      @@michaelwright1602 No thanks. Glad YOU like them though. I'm more into physics, which Zu seems to ignore.

      @@michaelwright1602 I did say "It's ok to like them", didn't i? FYI I wouldn't buy the Model 5 KLH either. I'm into speakers that DON'T screw up the musical waveform.
      Your woofer, without a crossover, is a damped harmonic oscillator. A damped, harmonic oscillator has a high-frequency limit, imposed by its moving mass- which equals phase shift in the highs, or time delay.
      It has phase shift in the low frequencies, because it has mass bouncing on a suspension (it's a mass/spring system), as described above.
      And since it cannot be an infinitely-rigid cone, it has cone breakup too, which imposes a ragged phase error across the roll-off region, a raggedness that changes with loudness too.
      If you'd like the math behind it, I can provide it to you.

      @@daleboylen6427 What does physics sound like? You measurement guys do not know what you are missing, not that any of you seem to care. You bash gear that you will not purchase, or even take the time to listen too., talk about audio snobbery. Where is that scientific curiosity? You guys enjoy your oscilloscopes, the rest of us will enjoy the music. ;-)

      @@michaelwright1602 I;m not a measurements guy. I'm a design guy. I believe that physics, more importantly time domain math, which are Greens Functions, are needed to design a speaker that is true to what's on the recording. I'm also a recording engineer. As far as "Bashing gear I have not purchased or even listened to", I did manage the biggest audio chain in the state of Colorado for 15 years. We sold a lot of brands, Had sales reps trying to get us to carry dozens more, and encouraged customers to bring their gear in for comparison, and I've bought and sold a plethora of speakers over the past 40 years. Not a lot out there I haven't heard, including Zu. We saw Sean at various shows. I take it you're not interested in the math?? I'm a guy who sat in a chair, night after night, aiding a physicist with a speaker design. Change a capacitor, what do you hear? Change an inductor,, what do you hear? Change a crossover point, what do you hear? It took us 30 YEARS to figure out that math and apply it to loudspeaker design. The result was "Speaker of the year" at Sixmoons.com. Fast forward to today, and we have the majority of people like you, who don't care about physics, or reproducing the musical waveform accurately. They care about price. They complain that a speaker is $15,000 because they cannot for the life of them, understand why a box and a few drivers could possibly be worth that kind of scratch, totally ignorant to the 30 YEARS of time we invested in making them the worlds best. We have "Fun Fi" and we have computer models, which are WRONG. I get to put up with guys like you and Randy (cheapaudioman) telling me I'm a snob when neither of you even cares to learn. Talk about audio snobbery.I never said it's NOT ok to like Zu or any other brand. I said they are not audiophile. I've offered to give you the math as to WHY, but you seem to not want to know. That's fine too. Just stop telling ME I am WRONG when I know I am right and have ALL the math to support my statements. You're not talking to an audio snob or novice here. I want accuracy in audio reproduction. You don't.
