    You can take the "he fell off a guard tower" Holocaust joke even further, just keep inverting it:
    "My grandfather died in the Holocaust."
    "Really?"
    "Yeah, he fell off a guard tower"
    "Oh. *eye roll* ha ha ha..."
    "No, I'm serious, he was trying to escape"
    "Seriously? Damn."
    "from the rioting prisoners."

    My dad doesn't miss those days of no Internet.
    He is involved in sports and somewhat of a public person, so he used to have random people calling him asking sports-trivia to win arguments with their friends. Usually when drunk.

    Its interesting that there seems to be multiple ways of solving the puzzles (or they changed the solutions between versions).

    The reason modern videogame protagonists are always competent is because noone likes being told they are incompetent and players like being happy. The reason guns are accurate is because players want combat to be based on their own skill and not random number generator in a game. players want agency. For example in STALKER games accuracity is very low, this leads to a lot of frustration where you can empty entire clips into enemies without a single hit even though you are lieing on your belly on top of a mountain aiming perfectly. Id rather it be dependent on my skills and not random aim mechanics.

    • @Ninetailedknight
      @Ninetailedknight 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well to each their own. I see your point and I mostly agree. But I like random number generators interfering with my combat. I like a layer of uncontrollability. But most people don't so I can understand that.

    20 milion people is not enough for accent variation? My home country has less than a milion, and there are, like, 6 different accents - you can literally recognize which town the person is from. :D But, as Yahtzee stated for the England, it's heavily due to the country's tribal political history...

    I think their problem is they have lives outside of doing LPs and such. Unlike most LPers.

    Oh wow; I could definitely imagine that they'd be extremely busy then. Most LPers upload a video at least once a week or so, but that's also because they're not trying to get a formal education and manage several jobs. I'm honestly not complaining if Yahtzee and Gabriel take months to upload even a single video because when they do; it's pretty much gold. I'm just grateful that they decided to take the time to start making these videos again and plan to do more in the future :)

    Also on the subject of voice acting I can vouch that it isn't easy to do a new impression on the spot. I'm the friend who can do a metric fuck-ton of impressions but I also have to be allowed some practice time to get a voice down. It helps that my accent is mostly neutral, although I have a slight southern twang that tends to come out when I get pissed off or distracted. I've been told I do a great impression of The Merchant from RE4 though, so that's nice I suppose.

    Wait, Kent hadn't composed that himself? But in the intro, he said he had. Is he lying to her, or is he lying... to himself? And about what?
    Clearly, the character of Kent Knutson is more deeper than we had ever thought. Perhaps he is actually delusional and so deep into building up his own fantasy world where only he can save us that he began to stop distinguishing reality from fiction. But despite his heroic tale, he still makes himself out to be a bumbling idiot (continued).

    In Homefront you do have military experience...you were grabbed specifically because of your experience with flying too. Plus as much as everyone says they would want that idea to start without any skills, they would just complain when the game turns bad. Look at FarCry 3, Jason supposedly never kills and it does break the story a bit, but how much fun would it be slowly stumbling around doing nothing until he's "used" to killing? You couldn't do it in a realistic time frame that wouldn't be incredibly slow-paced.

    They get sidetracked before getting into a discussion about Neuromancer and cyber culture (oh, and the other book you couldn't remember is Count Zero, Gabe), but as someone who loves the Sprawl books, let me say that most popular culture representations of "cyberpunk" have almost nothing to do with William Gibson's work, at least not the Sprawl books. The Matrix movies are often referenced as "movie versions of Gibson's work" but they are not even close really. Other than a VR called the Matrix and some of the character portrayals, they are way off the mark. Most of that 90s "cyber" pop culture stuff has more origins in stuff by Bruce Sterling and Neil Stephenson than Gibson, whose work was more a meditation on neo-noir set in a futuristic society. The film version of Johnny Mnemonic is a perfect example of putting a pop culture interpretation of Gibson's work *on top of* his actual work. Probably the closest a film has ever gotten to being an accurate trip into William Gibson's work was Strange Days.

    • @SoCalledSpaceAge
      @SoCalledSpaceAge 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      New Rose Hotel was awful. Yeah, they tried to stay true to the nature of the short story, but the movie was just terrible. Awful writing, awful dialog, awful pacing, and the acting was just pathetic. As usual for Abel Ferrara, he decided to just let Christopher Walken act like Walken instead of an actual character in a movie and the end result is terrible. Not surprised virtually no one has ever heard of that movie.
