Fantastic scene, especially at that particular moment for our vampires who needed to hear good mortal music maybe as much as they needed blood to keep them going, and it worked.
When watched this for the first time in the movie, although I don't understand Arabic, it made me cry from the bottom of my heart... The combination of this song and the movie created a masterpiece
wonderful Yasmine I travelled from Scotland to see her in London. I was mesmerised with her beauty and her haunting voice.. later I met her and what a wonderful lady to speak to..I treasure my picture taken with her and my signed cds also the playlist also signed..I have been to all the top gigs over 40 yrs.. This was the best ever..Thank you Yasmine.. x
This song proves that music is an international language: many people in the comment section don't speak arabic, but still admire the beauty of Yasmine's music.
I've only seen the movie once, but it was incredible. I'm a musician and the vision of music through the vampire was so poetic omg, hard to describe. Here I loved the use of an ebow witch is pretty new to me when associated with oriental languages.
After listening to this it's really weird to just listen to another song in english right after...the flow of this language just takes you somewhere else. It's magical. It makes you feel.
I bought ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE sight unseen several years ago, and was mesmerized by the film, and this song. As with so many other commentators, I don't speak Arabic, but this song spoke to me, of themes universal, poetic, even tragic. Some things transcend translation.
Once i watched this film at 20 , i didn’t like it , 6years later one of my friends explained the mood of Jim Jarmoosh films and the way of he make films , then i found out what a perfect film i watched and i didn’t get it that moment , only lovers left alive is talking to artists and kinda tell people only art can save you so only artists will survive(mentaly from this chaos in this world)

I totally agree. And if you're interested in hearing, the song, if I'm not mistaken, is about her fragile heart and how she doesn't have a solution so that it will love only once. "Hal" in Arabic means "solution".
such magic in her voice, it's like riding the broom of the very witch that can send you to any place of your dreams, the magic carpet that brings you your prince or princess, that soft sounds of sleep in a dream that you don't wont want to wake up from

This song is amazing. The instrumentation has a haunting quality and the vocals take it to a whole other level. We've all been there. The point of no return: when longing and despair meet at the crossroads. Then after days of being in the abyss you break through to clarity. I stumbled across a jewel of information, while I was researching something else entirely unrelated, that illuminated the deeper meaning that the music already implies. It confirmed that the lyrics are a perfect compliment to the composition. Ironing out the issues with translating languages that are not Latin-based and/or Romance Languages is a fascinating alphabetical, grammatical and semantics excursion. One of my favorite songs from my new favorite movie (I bought the soundtrack just for this song, but happily discovered SQÜRL as well.) That Voice with the Ebow Guitar is so mesmerizing... and then when the rhythm kicks in... pure ecstasy!
A haunting, sensual voice weaving in and around sounds that are, at once, both edgy and ethereal; a paradox of pain and pleasure. The brilliant Jim Jarmusch inserts this Sound-Art, as perfectly placed punctuation, just before he closes the film, 'Only Lovers Left Alive'. A pleasant surprise that leaves you wanting more. Vous voulez pleurer encore danser lent et facile avec un parfait inconnu; Coeurs sur votre brassard. Complètement indifférent au fait que vous avez exposée au Monde. ~The goddess Nibiru (aka Lib40) كلمات: ياسمين حمدان "هال" من فيلم "عشاق الوحيد الذي بقي على قيد الحياة" - جيم Jarmusch، مدير
I also adore the placement of this soul-stirring song. After horrid events leaving adam and Eve bereft of hope, they stumble upon this gift, almost as a reminder of the beauty that life, existence, and even humans can offer. Almost serpentine, Yasmin beguiles the gathering with body and voice. None are spared; neither mortal nor monster.
l spent an hour in her company after her performance at Scala in london... not only the perfect performance but what a wonderful lady to talk with..will stay with me forever x
This was great. I loved the moment in the film when Adam drifts over to listen to this. I'd totally do the same. And that coffee looks irresistible. Mmm. The more I think about drinking an Arabic coffee on a warm evening in Tangiers, with some friends, listening to music like this, the more I get pulled in.
Mesmerizing atmosphere...haunting like some ancient taboo. There's something happening here that no human could possibly comprehend no natter how ambitious or open; it's a tragedy and blessing at once.
Proof that art that beauty, the huamity in all of us has no code, no language and no bounds. It connects us all, helps us understand us all and connect us all on more levels than we will ever understand. PS: I would marry that woman in an instant if just so that I could listen to her sing my soul to heaven. The least and most selfish of all reasons. PPS: If she is married already, I am not jealous. She would be too awesome to keep to myself anyway.
You're right, you need soul. I am getting sufi vibes from this. And I am seeing it as a love song about the relationship between ones self and higher self. Where love is: presence. When we are not connected to soul, we forget about it. That's how it makes sense when she says she loves so much, yet if she doesn't see him for a day she forgets him. Then when we think of soul, the longing actually moves nostalgia in our hearts. Cos soul is not to be thought of, as thought only conjures illusions/distortion. Which is what nostalgia is, seeing things in some romanticised way, instead of how they really happened. When we are so lost in our perception, instead of experiencing what is, as it goes when live in connection with Soul, the night is longer because in our dream state we return back to this relationship. And the day feels backwards because it is lived not in connection. Then comes compassion for the heart, as it is the portal. And at the same time, the place where we feel when we are disconnected from soul. When I say disconnected, I mean, living in ignorance of, as it's not really possible to be disconnected from our essence, but we can betray it by the way we live, by not honouring it and not letting it inform our action. So if connection to source is life giving, then not living in connection feels like dying. There is no solution (hal) because we are multidimensional, here to experience being a human, while at the same time actually being a soul. You would think that the heart would show a craving for this connection, a desire, but it somehow doesn't, because it is always one with soul. So there is no solution (hal) for that. It's the paradox of the soul having a human experience...
at this part of the film i was so entranced. such an incredible film that i would consider having in at least my top 20 of all time and a beautiful song!

Especially since a major handful of languages are predominantly metaphorical. The specific aspect of 'Hal', and of a few instances in the rest of the translation, is what I found to be different from what is on the WEBsites. What I came across, while researching the esoteric similarity of certain concepts within Zoroastrianism and Islam, was a comprehensive definition of the word. It refers to a state of consciousness; perception. It is also the equivalent to the Sanskrit word 'Maya' (illusion). So I would like to suggest lyrics that may be closer to Ms. Hamdan's intentions. My suggestion is first, followed by the translation found on some lyrics sites.
i love you,
