I think some people forget how basic grilling/bbq is.. its a really simple concept but yet we feel we need to have top notch grills and extra shit to make it happen
The 17 and a half inch Grill from Walmart is a very popular Grill. Had one years ago and used it to cook chicken on. People were impressed by the fact that I could cook the chicken completely on this Grill without burning it
As long as you have a 2 zone going you're golden . When it comes to chicken I like to cook indirect to let the skin render down and sear it at the end. It would be the steal equivalent of reverse searing.. If i do it direct heat i get flare ups and charred skin and it tastes like shit.. as long as you know basic cooking methods you're good.
Great job! But I noticed, you had to let it cook a little more to reach felt out the bone ribs, I use the same grill, I usually buy a St Louis rack of ribs, use mustard and killer hogs rub, I just use the half of the grill with charcoal (all the charcoal lighted not just a few) I installed a thermometer to this grill, and with the half of the grill fully lighted it reaches about 350-400 degrees, I add two chunks of wood to get some smoke, I put the ribs on the indirect side (no need of bricks or anything) 1,30 hours of smoke and then 2 hours in aluminum foil and the result it's a nice ribs felt out the bone, no need to put them directly to the fire, Juicy and tender
I have that exact same grill. I will try that the next time I cook ribs. Thanks for showing how to cook ribs on it. Could you try either chicken or a small brisket on it next time?
I was hoping for a more step by step how to. You seared, then cooked indirect, but were the vents fully open? And you mentioned wrapping, when do you do that?
I've used two bricks in a $69 22" Weber Jumbo Joe for years with great success. I'm just now getting to where I can afford proper equipment, but I've been balling on a budget for years. Fool-proof pulled pork tacos! Learn your dampers, start with a good bed of coals, good shaker of seasoning, and a single chunk of wood of your choice. Textbook Texas Q.
Absolutely my brotha! I think sometimes we over complicate the simplicity of BBQ! 🔥 and 🍖 is all we need. Learn along the way and enjoy the process of cooking!
@@GulfCoastSmoke couldn't agree more, man. A friend of mine is learning to grill, and I told him I think the best tip I ever got was to not overcomplicate things.
That 22” Jumbo Joe isn’t $69 anymore. But it is still the biggest, cheapest Weber available right now. I just received one today that ran about $84. I see all of these grills for $400-$2,000 or more and think “Man that could buy a lot of food to put on a grill or a smoker.”
I'm doing something similar tomorrow on a similar grill as an experiment and I love the bricks idea, I literally paused the video mid way through to go to Depot to get 2 bricks! LOL
@@GulfCoastSmoke Thanks. I may try this today or tomorrow. Once you sauced the ribs how long did you let it cook? Also I take it that you sauced the ribs at about 205 temperature?
Thank you for the questions and the answers! Same questions I had being that I'll be attempting this tomorrow using almost the same exact grill. I'm hoping I can create a dual zone without the bricks...
Great question! I wasn’t necessarily looking to smoke these because of how small the grill was so I just wanted to gather some smoke is all. You’re definitely not going to get that full on smoke flavor with these!
I wish you could show the process as the ribs cook. It's a great video. I did my 1st rack yesterday, but they came a little dry. I think I overcooked them. Maybe next time, show us step by step ?
It was to keep all the briquettes touching so I could get that slow burn! The vent isn’t blocked here, it’s actually on the bottom portion of the grill on the opposite side! Also, the bricks allow me to have a two zone fire.
Man, I have always really enjoyed your videos. I really wish you the best man because you are always honest and do not lie and always try new things that the bigger TH-camrs just don’t have time for or care to do. We need to get you out of hidden gem status.
All I’ve ever wanted to do was make cool videos on a topic I truly love. Currently, I think we are doing that and if it’s in the cards for us to grow it’ll happen in due time! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you always watching, brotha! I always see you in the comments and it’s awesome to know that people like you are in my side!
Truly AMAZING ribs! Y'all can do it too. Just get outside and try!
Thank you so much.. I just loss my husband to cancer and I really didn't know what to do.. Thank you for making this video ❤
Im sorry for your loss. . . 😢
Condolences!!!!
I'm sorry for your loss. Hope you're doing better now.

Does it get good airflow? Some of the bad reviews say that it doesn't get hot enough and once you close the lid the fire shuts off.
I love how you show people anyone can do it
Everyone can do it, brotha! Most people are more afraid to fail over anything else and that’s the issue!
How long did you cook them for
Great job!

I will definitely try this here on my channel! Great video
You are a lifesaver! I used this method today. I smoke my ribs for 2 hours .My ribs are juicy and perfect . Thanks ❤
I have that exact same grill. I will try that the next time I cook ribs. Thanks for showing how to cook ribs on it. Could you try either chicken or a small brisket on it next time?
Absolutely! I want to try brisket but I’m not sure how it’ll fit. Maybe a flat or something!
@@GulfCoastSmoke Also I forgot to ask how open did you leave the vent in it?
It was half way opened!
@@GulfCoastSmoke Okay thanks.
I was hoping for a more step by step how to. You seared, then cooked indirect, but were the vents fully open? And you mentioned wrapping, when do you do that?
How open the bottom vent was ?
When would i wrap them & how long?

@@tinymission7821 you’ll get a lot of mileage out of that grill. You can cook just about anything on one. Enjoy your new grill!
Love that grill. Works great everytime
Hell yeah it does! Can’t beat that price either!
Thanks got a subscriber. Had one and didn’t know how it could help me when bbq for a large group
Can you make a video cooking on a old Smokey?
I just picked up the expert Grill the propane version. That grill is fantastic
I'm doing something similar tomorrow on a similar grill as an experiment and I love the bricks idea, I literally paused the video mid way through to go to Depot to get 2 bricks! LOL
How far into the hour and a half cook did you wrap the ribs?
Around 45 minutes in.
@@GulfCoastSmoke Thanks. I may try this today or tomorrow. Once you sauced the ribs how long did you let it cook? Also I take it that you sauced the ribs at about 205 temperature?
I sauced them and just let the sauce set them pulled them. Yes I put the sauce on about 200ish
@@GulfCoastSmoke Thanks.
Thank you for the questions and the answers! Same questions I had being that I'll be attempting this tomorrow using almost the same exact grill. I'm hoping I can create a dual zone without the bricks...
Honest question here, wouldn’t searing it first and also covering with sauce at the beginning, hinder smoke being able to do it’s thing?
Great question! I wasn’t necessarily looking to smoke these because of how small the grill was so I just wanted to gather some smoke is all. You’re definitely not going to get that full on smoke flavor with these!
I have a similar grill, would I be able to do brisket on it??
Great smooth to the point content

Sorry lol I’m new to all this , can you explain exactly how the cook went? And how long it went for? Wrapped unwrapped and how long ?
Do you flip em at all during the half and a half or just meat side up?
The problem with these videos that say how great this little grill is, I go look at their other videos and they always have a different go to grill. 😂
Can you do a chicken leg quarter cook on this grill ? I’m struggling please
I will get it done!
How long did you leave it on the other side of the grill after the sauce was applied? Looks amazing btw
“200-204 internal temp” towards the end of video 🤙
What’s the two bricks purpose? Wondering how the air get to the coals if vent is blocked. Because I have same grill.
It was to keep all the briquettes touching so I could get that slow burn! The vent isn’t blocked here, it’s actually on the bottom portion of the grill on the opposite side! Also, the bricks allow me to have a two zone fire.
Love the video brother! Keep pushing!
