Unfortunately, Banja Luka is full of nationalism against Bosnia, mainly because their political leadership has a secessionist agenda. As a city, it is really a nice place, but too bad the people are sorta hostile to non-Serb people who visit. That police experience was just one of the showcases of that soft repression their local government is displaying against non-Serbs. The fact he asks if you speak "Serbian language" as if you're doing something wrong for not speaking "their language" etc is the sort of cultural repression their police/govt are well known for, aside from participating in genocide in the 1990s. Also, it's the only place outside of Russia and Serbia where you'll find pro-Putin decor and activism supporting war in Ukraine. Truly, they're on the wrong side of history and it definitely shows.
Yeah I know exactly what you’re talking about, when I was in Sarajevo radical Muslims threw stuff at me because I was Jewish and wore a yarmulke. And they told me that I was going to burn in hell.
That doesn’t mean that I hate all Bosnians and that I judge them as a nation because of that! I was in Banja Luka and I was treated good by the Serbian people, and of course there’s gonna be people that are stupid everywhere you go but that doesn’t have to do with nationality that has to do with stupidity and ignorance. I loved staying in Sarajevo and I met allot of good muslim Bosnians, but I also loved staying in Banja Luka. Try to see with eyes unclouded by hate and you will have a more positive outlook on things! :)
@@stephan6083 Where did I hate anyone? I was stating facts. Also, what's "positive" about genocide denial and justification of war crimes? You can't put a spin on that my friend. How would you feel if I started denying Holcoaust and the president of my country called for destruction of Israel? I'm sure you'd be looking at me and the area I'm coming from with a "positive" set of eyes.
I'm Vietnamese studies in Novi Sad. I plan to visit Serbian Republic next month. Wonder if there are any kind of discrimination against people with different race colour?
@@Tremoloist As an Asian you shouldn't have any issues, we have had a Chinese population for a long time now and yeah people might look at you because they probably never seen someone from Vietnam

Serbian police was suspicious cause you walked through muslim part of city . Maybe they thought you are Serbs trying to do something there, there is big distance between christians (Serbs) and muslims (Bosnians) . We dont hang out with muslims and yours clouth was kinda "serbian" (style, colours) it happened to me few times ( Why you in this part of city? ) and I stoped to enter muslim parts because "safety".

Typical Serb from republika srpska... "We don't hang out with muslims"...
Probably prouldy said... because, in facts, they fight for that...
That's tells a lot about Bosnian war... Who had which objectives...
Who fight for what...
Not even one bomb land on Banjaluka, but every single mosque is leveled to the ground with explosives in one single night, even 600 years old ones, from the UNESCO heritage...
and u have "we don't hang out with muslims"...
On the other hand, Sarajevo was in the siege 1425 days by Serbs, eleven thousand people died, six hundred children are kiled, every day on average 329 mortal shells landed on the city...
And...
Not a single one church is demolished, not even touched...
U cannot hear "we don't hang out with Serbs"...
I have many friends who are Serbs, neighbours, working colleagues, etc...
That's Sarajevo !!!

If you don't like and respect the local people, in this case the Serbs, you shouldn't come to their country! You know that the Serbs and Americans have hostile relations so don't pretend as if someone invited you here or that anyone will miss you!

Oh really? Why don't you visit Iran then? Is it maybe because you know that America and Iran are openly hostile to each other and you would feel like you're surrounded by the enemies there?

We did see a lot of pro Russia graffiti in Banja Luka
