Love the 2024 Puntas, so much so that I did what you always say to do & bought a whole bunch of reserve bottles, all for only a few $$ more than MSRP. I found it really does open up & evolve as it opens up after the initial bottle crack. Definitely not "smooth," but quite creamy/buttery mouthfeel. I get a tropical fruity/citrus sweetness with the cooked agave, pepper, & anise. To some degree, I think we as consumers collectively have helped fuel the increasingly nuts secondary pricing since there are too many willing to pay the FOMO prices.
Re opening up - I found that to be the case with another tequila (a "still strength" blanco). The first pour I didn't really like, but a couple weeks later I tried it again and found it had changed for the better. (Or it may have been me not the tequila). Anyway, I think that shows one should not write a tequila off solely based on the first pour from a new bottle.
I have last year's version. It's good stuff. I have noticed that it can be difficult to find, and I have seen it in museums at a very high price. I think it's worth $100, but if it is marked up to an absurd price, it is best to leave it on the shelf and look for it elsewhere. It seems that the craziness that has infested the bourbon market for over a decade is filtering into the tequila market. If this trend continues, enjoy the good stuff while you can, because it might become hard to get.
Its not going to happen in the tequila Market like it dod bourbon. There is always retailers trying to capitalize on FOMO though. Thanks for watching .
@@TheTequilaHombre I hope you're right. As someone who was drinking bourbon long before the frenzy got started, I find it both perplexing and annoying, and I keep wondering which spirit will be next if people finally get tired of going nuts for overhyped and overpriced bourbon. As for tequila, problems seem to be limited so far to Fortaleza and a few limited releases from other brands.
@heatherharrison264 The secondary pricing is getting nuts. I just saw a 2023 Puntas "on sale" for $279.99 (from $299.99)...and the Fortaleza FOMO pricing is just batty, $189 or more for a 750 ml of añejo, etc. Insanity!
Thanks for the review, I have this bottle but I won't get to taste it for a few weeks. I purchased it from Tequila Ocho's Mexican website. You need a Mexican address to do that.
