There is plenty of agave everywhere you look, it's blue, and factories are not buying because they got their own supply. how popular is el tesoro in mexico? seems like the only non additive brands i see frequently mexicans drinking in mexico are siete leguas and el tequileno
@@heliosf2080 With the opportunity to drink any of the wonderful tequilas out there, I would expect people in Mexico to have their favorites. Nice to know Siete Leguas and El Tequileno are well respected there.
I wish "No Additives" were bold on each appropriate label. Your superior alternate suggestions are spot on. I would say for inexpensive tequilas, Arette and Tres Agaves are also good choices. Additive free with clean fresh taste. They may not be as complex as some great tequilas but-for me-the notes they are lacking I don't find that appealing. El Tesoro and Fortaleza are very nice. G4 & Ocho are high quality but I just don't like them. That's just my taste. Arette blanco is my go to sipper and Tres Agaves blanco makes an outstanding Margarita. Very good information, I went to Hacienda Patron several years ago, before it was bought by Bacardi, I did not observe any additives added in the process. As a matter of fact, it was a very rewarding and learning experience. I am a Professional beer brewer, but not an expert in tequila, even though I am Mexican; how can you detect the additives? Some of them, I had tasted the artificial flavors, added caramel flavor, glycerin its used very often in distilled spirits. It´s there a test, other than tasting method to detect them? The tequila master from Patron was the same from Siete Leagues, unfortunately, he died several years ago.
I am in Mazatlan right now. I have visited agave spirits producers but have not made it to Jalisco...yet. Additives are allowed up to 1% while still being able to label it 100% agave. There are tests but the mouthfeel and sweetness will tell you most of what you need to know. Patron is a hard one. Roca Patron is definitely additive free. Siete Leguas developed Patron for its founders and was the primary producer before they built Hacienda Patron. The flagship Patron is questionable. But, the reporting may be wrong. If so, I apologize. toPatron. Would love to see you in the community.

How is putting tequila in used bourbon oak barrels different than used bourbon oak barrels from WT. Both are used oak barrels that contained bourbon. To me any spirit that is put in used barrels is finished.
It is determined based on the legal requirements Many spirits are matured in used bourbon barrels, including Scotch, Irish Whiskey, Rum, Tequila, and a host of other products. The requirements for bourbon include that it must be matured in New Charred Oak barrels. Other whisk(e)ys and spirits do not require that the barrels be new. Would love to see you in the community!
@@schoolofwineandspirits I understand all about finishing and how bourbon is made. Typically a finished spirit is transferred to a 2nd barrel of a different wood or different type of alcohol like wine. But transferring from an used bourbon oak barrel to another bourbon oak barrel isn't really much of a finish.
Sorry, I misunderstood your comment. Each bourbon has a different character and flavor based on the mash bill, barrel char level, and age. Wild Turkey Barrels are going to have a completely different character than Jim Beam Barrels. Just as finishing in a sherry cask will have a different character than finishing a rum barrel. So, I would respectfully disagree that finishing in one bourbon barrel is the same as any other.
I don't disagree about the different tastes in bourbons with the different mashes. They don't say where the entry barrel came from. Be nice to taste it before the put it in the Turkey barrels to see what characteristics its adding.

while good breakdowns, I feel there was way too much "apples to oranges" here. If you are comparing a budget Tequila like Cazadores, you should be recommending.. another similar priced Tequila, IMO. If commenting on a "vanilla" flavored tequila, I would say one should still be recommending something in the same ballpark, but of better quality, etc. A person who enjoys Casamigos, likely isn't looking for that earthy flavor. I think the biggest flaw with most Spirits enthusiasts, is assuming everyone will appreciate what they appreciate. Solo mi dos pesos, as a long time resident of mexico and sipper of tequila.

I like Don Julio 70. But I often think it has additives because it has a sweet aftertaste and it’s not harsh at all. And at $70-$80 a bottle I’d be very disappointed if it’s adulterated.
Don Julio used to be very good. They got bought out. The new owners ruined the product.

I was surprised to see this. I always thought that only the Mixto tequilas had added sugars, etc. I thought that if it reads 100% Agave, there were no additives. My son bought me a bottle of Adictivo Anejo last year and I also have the resposado, and it's so sweet and tasty that it was hard to believe that it couldn't have sugar in it.
They are not gonna tell you if they adding additives to their tequila..
Siete Leguas developed
Patron for its founders and was the primary producer before they built Hacienda Patron.
