  • Video package shows footage of a QRA scramble by RAF Typhoons deployed on Op AZOTIZE from Siauliai Air Base, 4th Jun 2020. They intercepted a Russian COOT A and supporting Flanker B aircraft.
    Op AZOTIZE is the UK's contribution to the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission ensuring the security of the skies above Lithuania the other Baltic States. RAF Typhoons of No.6 Squadron, from RAF Lossiemouth, are working alongside a detachment of Spanish F-18 fighters of Ejercito Del Aire.
    And also Royal Air Force Typhoons deployed in Lithuania carrying out mock air attacks to test the defences of NATO warships operating in the Baltic Sea.

      Gabriel Johannson You hate yourself because you’re not smart enough to be a pilot? If you can’t fly them, why not fix them? There are literally thousands of roles to fill within the Forces and outside of them two - no single cog in a machine is any more important than another, if one isn’t working the entire machine stops. Don’t be so quick to write yourself off, there’s nothing you can’t achieve with enough effort and dedication. Besides, these days you’ll only get drawn into a conflict you want no part of - it’s been a long time sine we fought for our freedom, and NATO and the UN cover much of what we never hear about. The governments and media are conditioning people to believe they’re worthless - ignore what you’ve been told until you’re truly positive that it’s you that has a limit holding you back, or someone else decided what your limit was and you just accepted it. Make sure you’re actually told ‘No, and here’s why’ or keep on trying. No single person has the right to decide your future, except yourself. Good luck in whatever you end up doing - but don’t hate yourself because of others’ expectations of you. Fuck ‘em!

      No- it depends entirely on how far the aircraft has to go, and how much fuel they have on board- The Typhoons are QRF, so they won't be travelling with tanks etc- the Flanker may well either stop at a closer base, or refuel on the way back- it depends entirely where they have come from.

He has this story he likes to tell about the new Russian commanders. So when the F4 intercepts and calls for acknowledgment of the Bear, they ask for the Russian to raise his 50 call defense guns in compliance with international law. Says this one new guy they had not come across gave them a bunch of crap one day and just mumbled stuff back in Russian. Well, it's the standard that all international pilots be able to speak English. He said the second time they followed the request and locked the Bear with weapons radar. He said the guns went up immediately and suddenly the Russian started speaking perfect English. He said after several months of this cat and mouse they knew each pilot by tail number and a professional relationship developed between them. He said, it was always a nervous time getting a new Russian pilot in the air because he never knew if he would do something stupid to make them have to act.

      I met a back seater from a Tornado ground attack squadron back in 98. I asked him about the weapons radar locks. He said they wouldnt do it because a lot of the Tu95 Bears were used to record and analyse the Typhoons radar signals i.e. Intelligence gathering. He also mentioned that back in the 80s, when the soviets incurred on NATO airspace that every nation affected would launch alert fighters. So by the time the Brits showed up there was a conga line of West German, Danish, Belgium and Dutch fighters trailing the Bear.

    My uncle was a test pilot on these when they was "eurofighter 2000" in the 80s and 90s before a accident ended his fast air career and he ended up a airline pilot.
    He says they had no computer simulations like they do now, it was a case of get in and fly and see what happens. He would take me to work sometimes at BA Warton and I'd chill in the pilots cabins while he went for a spin.

      Not true. DA2/4 were Wartons test a/c and DA2 was tasked with FCS development and envelope expansion. It was all heavily CFD modelled, then rehearsed and validated in the FCS sims at Warton and the wider FJT. There’s a reason we only lost one DA throughout the development trials and it’s because we didn’t just get in and ‘give it a go’ as you say. If your uncle is KH then he may have come across that way, certainly in his last DA flight before he ‘left’ the EF programme. .

    The Sukhoi's are flying in international airspace. You people need to learn the difference, that is not interception but escort or you can say close monitoring. To intercept something he must violate first something, which the flanker's did not. All jets as you see were flying straight, no aggressive manoeuvrers, no nothing. You people perhaps should watch Greek-Turkish encounters to understand what interception means.

    • @vadrak6197

    • @vadrak6197
      @vadrak6197 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jean
      You intercept something when violates something or you are suspicious for an illegal act(terrorism, transfer of weapons etc).
      In this vid nothing of the above is happening.
      The Sukhois are flying in international air-space in a straight line, not even care about the EF escorting them.
      Listen I am Greek and I know what I m talking about because we have this situations almost in daily basis. While you only once every couple of months you take off to escort a russian jet which flies legal outside your national airspace and you think you do something amazing by doing so lol. Not very busy your airforce. If you want to see what a busy day is, then send a couple of yours jets in a greek airbase for a couple of months and you will understand the term interception deep in your soul.
      In the Aegean when a turkish fighter violates Greek air space, Greek fighters moved to intercept them and if the enemy turkish fighter persists of not leaving in devolves to a aerial battle(dogfight). That is what we call interception.
      Because I read books and I know my stuff, you should do the same.
