      @@candyc.7565 well this is especially relevant now in the uk since all exams for the past 2 years have been almost completely based on teacher assessment. this meant they read your notes, used practice questions in your notebook, used end of topic testing, and homework (along with how well you achieved deadlines) all to give your grade.

      No school! I’m almost 65, but this will be great for my grandkids. They’re 10 and 12. I’m teaching them the joy of stationary supplies. Jet Pens is helping!
      One tip I found useful in university was to buy used books. (We had to buy all of our books.) Check through them first though and make sure the first owner’s highlighting and border notes make sense.

    Useful! Thank you. I'm currently in high school, so note taking is basically my life. Have some tips!
    1- Write the heading/subheadings in a different font. It doesn't have to be fancy, maybe just a different script from what you usually write or bigger than usual for you. I personally do a brush lettered title but if I don't have time, I write down the title of the lesson that day and then write it at home.
    2- If you missed anything/don't think your notes are good enough, make sure to either reach out to the teacher or a friend to ask them to review important points. That way, you will ensure that all the notes you need are written. Sometimes when teachers give the class handouts, I add all of the essential info to my notebook (even though it might not be required for that class)
    3- If your teacher becomes a rapper somehow in class, take pictures of their slides/record if they allow it! This has saved me multiple times and let me rewrite them after class!
    These are kinda basic, but I hope this helped someone!

    • @marmeemarch7080
      @marmeemarch7080 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harshi00 start with just jotting bullet points, or in other words, what does make sense to you in short phrases. Even just a couple words for each thing you understand. Part of note taking is training your brain and hand to write/ sketch while continuing to listen. If the class is not waaayyy above your knowledge base, taking baby steps with study notes will help you learn. Looking back at them soon (but not too soon) afterwards also helps you zero in on what you missed.

In order to keep good notes one needs the freedom of a blank piece of paper and a pen. Very glad this channel recommends this!

      I don't have a lot of resources, so I resort to digital notes naturally. I'm a cyber security student, but I do take discrete mathematics as a subject. Normally I just screenshot what my teacher has written on her digital whiteboard as notes. Since mathematics emphasizes practice, most of my practice questions and tutorials are done in my one humble notebook :D Although I love technology, I won't deny my love for handwritten notes no matter the times!

    Note taking absolutely ruined my handwriting in college.😁 Took several years to get it back.
    I graduated back in the Stone Age, so much that was covered regarding technology didn't apply, but it's still great for taking notes in general, today.
    I had a professor that required you know everything that he didn't write down. Even a joke told in passing was on a final... So I learned to take comprehensive notes. Meant most of the lecture I was writing.

    I'm actually waiting on a Pilot Hi-Tec multipen from you haha! My first university classes started in the last full week of August but the majority last week.
    Tip #1 For me, what works best is taking notes in class and online lectures in pencil because it's easy to fix any errors (I use pages from old notebooks I'm no longer using as a barrier between pages to prevent smudging, works like a charm!).
    Tip #2 When taking notes while studying (reading articles, occasionally watching videos supplied by teachers, etc.) I use a pen in colour and use a different colour to underline and mark the most important things. I'm also getting some Marvy PastelLiners from you that I'm going to use to highlight the most important parts so I don't need to use my pens for it. I find that using colour to accentuate is extremely helpful to aid recall, but I generally choose two or three colours based on my mood or to differ from the colours used before so I don't have a colour coding system.
    Tip #3 When taking notes I also make important things more obvious by using different handwriting for the important things. My regular handwriting is cursive, for important things I use block letters and all caps for the most important.
    Tip #4 I always write the title with a pen in colour. It makes it more eye-catching and it also looks pretty

    • @frida7913
      @frida7913 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couple of extras I suddenly remembered!
      Tip #5 For my fellow bilinguals (and of course multilinguals) taking courses in more than one language (mine are in both Icelandic and English): when you have a class in another language than English but the material is most often in English, write your notes in the language of the course! It makes it a lot easier to follow along in lectures and making connections when taking exams and doing assignments. The translation doesn't have to be perfect (I often try Google translate if I get stuck or look up individual words in online dictionaries) but I think it helps and is worth the extra time.
      Tip #6 Reread your notes when putting them away (f.ex. if you use binders or some sort of organisation system). I don't have time to rewrite my notes (my workload is pretty heavy as it is) but rereading them helps get it stuck in your memory. If I'm struggling with a few concepts, I like to write them down separately to go over later (I use a memopad, but there's tons of ways to do it). It's also good for things you need to do or remember for a specific course.

    1) in class I only use pen or pencil and don’t worry about making things look fancy, at home, I rewrite them to learn and study from
    2) use the same color scheme for everything. I use this
    Yellow = title
    Orange = subtitle
    Pink = sub-subtitle or a prove for math or and exercise
    Green= definitions and bullet points
    Blue = examples or just to be pretty
    3) make your own abbreviations
    4) make drawings to understand stuff better ( biology, physics, math etc)

    I will admit that I had a tendency to go way overboard on color-coding as a kid, though it was therapeutic for me. If my teacher said it was time to take notes, I would literally pull out *8 different colored pens* and pre-click all of them so I wouldn't annoy my classmates. For teachers who went too fast, I would make sure not to use the back side of the page for anything else so that I could organize and rewrite the notes at home in neater handwriting.
    I think the number of colors you use should vary depending on the subject matter (for example, I liked alternating colors on math equations for easier legibility), but I recommend using different colors for:
    titles/new categories (red)
    general text (black)
    vocabulary
    equations
    .
    Don't be afraid to leave blank spaces! If you take a lot of notes, use a notebook that allows you to add pages or just get a second one for the class after you fill the first. It's more important that your notes are legible and useful to you than the fact you saved yourself from using an extra dozen pieces of paper by not leaving a single blank line.
    Sometimes, if I forget to use the correct color when taking notes or if the teacher adds afterward "make sure to remember that word/term!", I will use a highlighter of the same color of ink. For example, if vocab words are blue and I wrote it in black by accident, I'll go over it with blue highlighter.
    **ETA:** Sometimes I like to go through the textbook right away and use the same color-coding techniques that are used in the textbook. That's part of the reason why I use red for titles! Most textbooks also use that color. Having the same color coordination in the textbook and your notes will make it easy to mentally transition between the two.

So, if the school leaves them in a cold place all the highlighting will come back. Honestly, I don't like anyone recommending them for borrowed books since you're messing them up anyway.

      All books are to be bought for your own use if you're in university, so I'm assuming you're talking about high school? Then, firstly, it doesn't matter whether it is a Frixion product or not - textbook borrowing rules have stated that the books should be clean from any sort of foreign medium at all, which includes Frixion products, and that going against this will have you fined. It would be reckless to annotate using a Frixion product with its erasable property in mind, when you're still vandalizing the book anyway :D those are my thoughts on the matter

    I teach at the University. I love these techniques. One thing though, my Zebra Sarasa MarkOn smears under the FriXion highlighter. I find that the Pilot Acroball resists smearing much better and is smoother to write with. It's my favorite pen now...1st time I've had a favorite pen too.

    Wow! I needed this video about 10 years ago when I was doing my undergraduate, or at least 4 years for my Masters Degree. Being a quick typist had not helped me, in Denmark. I could keep up with the professors English, so I could type verbatim what they said, but I did not retain it.
    I love the idea of using washi and flip out notes for textbooks. I am one of those perfectionists that despise writing in my text book or even highlighting.
    Thanks again always for the fun videos you guys keep putting out. Are you doing Hobonichi covers this year?

    When your in class be sure to be mentally present in it. These days online classes has made students distracted while learning.
    Always check your supplies before using it on notes.
    Try to write down in bullet points that way you can have better reading and less time consuming.
    Try to revise it within a week so that you didn't have a lot to learn during exams.

I used to take terrible notes and not reread them, and now I will go through the material and fill in the gaps from the internet or my classmates, who I actually talk to (online) about class. See, you CAN learn new things.

      Two tips I use at work. When taking notes in a meeting, I make a star before items that are my responsibility. On a To-Do list that is all my responsibilities, I put a circle before something I’ve started and a large checkmark on finished items. So some items have a checkmark over the circle. I also use symbols such as Delta if something needs changed or will change and Arrow or Therefore symbol as appropriate.

    Wait. People took notes like this? I just listen to the lecture to pick out the main points, and followed the logic trail.
    I.e. in Algebra 1 the basic idea being X=?. Eventually, all equations will get to that point. Your goal is to get there: X= Some Number. [X is a stand in for any variable, the more disruptive the variable, the more you will know what you are solving for. X is just a short-hand.]
    In Algebra 2 you will eventually end up with XY=0 so, Either X=0 or Y=0. All equations stem from this. Your goal is to work equations to this point.
    If you think of it like this, Integral Calculus will be much easier.
