Eccezionali.....ancora una delle piu’ belle registrazioni video sul “Duetto Don Carlo e Rodrigo, diretta magistralmente dal Maestro Claudio Abbado, con due Grandi interpreti che hanno dizione e fraseggio splendidi e una musicalità fuori dalla norma........difficilmente trovabili in altri cantanti su questo duetto.....
Un Letton et un Gallois; a priori deux écoles de chants fort différentes, or, ces deux immenses artistes ont des timbres de voix qui se marient magnifiquement et, en sus, ils font vraiment de la musique ENSEMBLE.

Quanti non so ma su Sky classica sono frequenti i concerti sotto la sua direzione. Era un uomo eccezionale che pur avendo 4 o 5 figli (se ricordo bene) ha devoluto il suo vitalizio di senatore a vita alla scuola musicale di Fiesole purtroppo per poco tempo per scomparsa alquanto prematura
I wouldn't think Bryn Terfel would ever do that role. Sergej Larin would be a great Carlo, though! I've only ever heard him in that DVD of Turandot in the Forbidden City and always wondered what happened to him.

Hvorostovsky who died in 2017 at the age of 55. A great loss
Homage to his memory as well as to the other great russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky who died at 55. Immense loss for music!

It was on the 30 of June 1996, " Italienische Nacht ", Waldbühne in Berlin. The soprano Angela Gheorghiu was fantastic too.

He died. I heard him live at SF Opera in Tosca. Very sad.
