I miss Geena Davis on screen! She was the best thing about "The Accidental Tourist." At that time, strangers told me I reminded them of her in that film and that was an awesome compliment. I finally saw the movie, because everyone kept telling me I should. In this clip, Don and Melanie were adorable together and Geena was never classier or more beautiful. She richly deserved this award.
I'm glad she mentioned Anne Tyler, who wrote the book of "The Accidental Tourist." How many actors or actresses do read the book their film is based on before starting work on it?
What a competitive category! Each of the five could easily have won... all were fantastic! Geena Davis winning is just splitting hairs about who was 'best'... all were brilliant.
One of strongest years in supporting actress category in all times. All nominess are marvelous in their roles; all are great actresses. Particularly, I'd choose between Davis and Pfeiffer. Davis deserved win.
Such a shame that Melanie Griffith didn't get to present to either of her nominated Working Girl nominees, Joan Cusack or Sigourney Weaver. Weaver was my absolute favourite for this award this year, still stunned that she didn't win the Oscar. She was AMAZING in Working Girl!
It's funny because Melanie Griffith would later work with Geena Davis years later in Stuart Little 2. Davis played Mrs. Little and Griffith was the voice of Margalo the bird
Such a strong category! Every actress in there are great and even I like Geena Davis,I think that the fact that Michelle Pfeiffer and Sigourney Weaver have never won an Oscar is shameful and unforgivable!
One of Hollywood’s most poignant and graceful actresses. Everything she’s done have been works of Art. This was an absolute fucking amazing win!! She played the role Muriel so well, so freaking amazing she’s just phenomenal.
and I thought I am the only one watching the oscars in the 80s, yeah Geena looked great however, M. Pfeifffer did an amazing job in dangerous liaisons!
arabinn 2015 You know, you are right, Glenn Close was amazing In Dangerous Liaisions!!!! I have been watching the Oscars for 40 years!!!! I love them. I love movies. I love the excitement of it all!!
Geena Davis is one of the best actresses of 80-90's...but, here, the best is MICHELLE PFEIFFER, no doubt. She deserved the Oscar for her magnificent acting in 'Dangerous Liaisons'. Anyway Geena's work in Accidental Tourist was very good.
I have so much respect for Michelle Pfeiffer. I think it's because she was so beautiful and she didn't let that carry her . . . she really is a wonderful actress. I don't think she had plastic surgery either which is why she's able to get parts for older women whereas Melanie Griffith and Meg Ryan will probably not get any work because they had work done and look so unnatural now.

both Michelle and Glenn Close were DEEPLY deserving of Oscars for their performances in that movie.
I remember this telecast! All 5 supporting actresses were outstanding; each one deserved the Oscar that year. It was the first award of the night, and I was on the edge of my seat (I think Don & Melanie deliberately dragged it out to mess with people, and heighten the tension). Sigourney had been the favorite to win, but she may have split the vote with her co-star Joan Cusak, as well as with herself in the Actress category. Who knows? I'm happy Geena won - it was a pretty good year in film!
Renan C. Maia Yeah, I know. And she was the first one to ever do so. Absolutely disgusting. Although the 4 previous actresses to have done so always won Supporting Actress, here Sigourney should have absolutely won Best Actress for Gorillas In The Mist.
Are you guys kidding? Foster in The Accused and Close in Dangerous Liaisons were both better in my opinion. In the academies opinion as well as Close got the 2nd most votes this year. Weaver is great in GitM but against Foster and Close? Maybe a bit out of her depth.
Miss. Gina was excellent in movie she won this OSCAR for. She looked 👀 absolutely stunning in her gown & she is CLASSY & BEYOND GORGEOUS! ❤ 👏 👏 👏 👏 🌹 🌹 💎 💎
I was rooting for Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Pfeiffer but Geena Davis was fantastic too. I think her most underrated films are Hero (1992), Cutthroat Island (1995) and especially The Long KIss Goodnight (1996)
Both supporting categories that year were top-quality, competitive and unpredictable right until the very end. Geena Davis and Kevin Klines ended up as the surprise-ish winners, since there was no clear front-runner in either category.
Gosh, Melanie and Don were so lovely together. He brought up Anne Boleyn…a woman I admire and who was totally innocent of all the charges made against her. Of course Geena was great in the film and she deserved the Oscar.
Don Johnson's hair is fantastic in this clip. Jeff Goldblum, what a beast. Look at his face here, it's like he's saying "oh stop," and "who's your daddy?" at the same time. Daaaaamn, now that's talent.
R F Weaver played against type in “Working Girl”. Before that she had always been given the tough girl role. In Working Girl she played a glamorous, seductive, pretentious high-class bitch and she was very convincing.
I can't believe Mercedes Ruehl was not nominated for Married To the Mob. That was her best performance in a film. Shocking that Dean Stockwell also lost.
Geena Davis deserved this Oscar. Sigourney winning would have been like Meryl Streep winning for Devil wears Prada, just no. Sigourney was also nominated for Gorillas in the Mist, now THAT should have won her the Oscar!
Geena Davis deserved this award and she nominated again for Thelma and Louise and she proved herself as an actress she was great in The Fly, A Leaque Of Their Own, The Accidental Tourist and she proved herself over and she was in The Last Kiss Goodnight. She can play an action hero too.
Sigourney...why they never given an Oscar to you? One of many mysteries of the Academy. Not even a life achievement recognition? For me always has been about a Working Girl!! Beautiful graceful and talented. With immense respect...and love. you did good Girl.!!. ❤
I wanted Geena to win after seeing the movie in the theater. Sigourney was my second choice, but all gave wonderful performances. Great to see her win without jer winning any precursor awards.
why does everyone keep saying that Sigourney was robbed?? she wasn't even that great on that movie if she was going to win for something it should've been for Gorillas In The Mist
I think Academy voters divided their votes for Sigourney and she didn't win for this reason. But I think Michelle Pfeiffer deserves more yo win than Geena or Sigourney.
Vice versa Justin. Gorillas was overwrought. When she literally ran with cast on her leg while Tess was taking over her life and her man, i thought yes she deserved the Oscar! The first thing Wick (Gladiator) and Nichols (The Graduate) thought was Sigourney weaver. Her most famous performance out of a lifetime of famous performances. The academy was so wrong like Anjelica Huston and Jason Robards in Julia it's pathetic. Just think Davis wouldn't have made those horrible decisions (earth girls? Cutthroat Island anyone?) If she wouldn't have won!
I'm a big fan of Siqourney Weaver's, but she's from the Hollywood nobility. Her father was famous as was her uncle. So, it's been easier for her to attain status. Geena Davis deserved it more..
searchlight18 Sigourney was not Hollywood royalty. Her father was the head of NBC which cut no ice with the movie-making branch of Hollywood. She lost tons of roles because of her 6 foot height but she fought on. She was one of the earliest women to become a massive box office draw (without a male co-star), and she did this entirely on her own.
Sigourney should have won for "Gorillas In The Mist" (same year). That performance was a tour de force by any standards. She was robbed in the Best Actress not Supporting actress category.
This was the ONLY nomination Davis had gotten for this film. As Sigourney Weaver was also nominated for best actress, she was considered a shoo in to win.
Irony is no one even remembers the film and performance Geena Davis won the Oscar for. But people still talk of Michelle Pfeiffer, Sigourney Weaver and Frances McDormand and their respective movies.
The Accidental Tourist was, to me, one of the best films of the 80s. It had a heart and was very moving and sad, and I was happy when Davis won the oscar for it because she was wonderful.
Fabinho Dantas Flappers I disagree. It was boring, lame, and - for the most part - unfunny. Geena Davis is who breathed any sort of life into it, and masterfully played a unique, quirky character, which is probably why she won here. William Hurt was deservedly not nominated for his role, through which he basically mumbled all his way.

It's been years but that dress on Geena Davis is just breathtaking-- even today.
Geena deserved this Oscar.she is so awesome as Muriel in the movie..
Quirky, poignant and near flawless acting!
I'm glad she mentioned Anne Tyler, who wrote the book of "The Accidental Tourist." How many actors or actresses do read the book their film is based on before starting work on it?
She did but Francis McDormond was amazing in Mississippi Burning
what a great line up of actresses... those were the days
Dakota Johnson on the Oscar stage before she was born.
Don doesn't look good with long hair. I didn't recognize him until he spoke.
Dakota Johnson is the perfect mix of them two
Girls look like their dads. Sons look like their mothers. (Mostly) Nature's little insurance, from the beginning.
What a competitive category! Each of the five could easily have won... all were fantastic! Geena Davis winning is just splitting hairs about who was 'best'... all were brilliant.
Geena and Jeff were hella cute together 🥺🥺
One of strongest years in supporting actress category in all times. All nominess are marvelous in their roles; all are great actresses. Particularly, I'd choose between Davis and Pfeiffer. Davis deserved win.
I'd love a movie (preferrably comedy) starring Geena Davis and Michelle Pfeiffer) :)
Yeah, it would be great.
What about Sigourney??
@@rogue7723 scarface
This was a hard choice. I had hoped Sigorney would win
I'm so glad Geena won :) The Accidental Tourist is probably the only movie I've ever seen that was as good as the book!
Geena Davis as well as beautiful, is also an excellent actress!!!
You 're kidding~. Thank you SO much for your opinion.
I was truly wondering if that had anything to do with ........... her winning the Oscar!
What is that thing on her ass lol
YES GEENA DAVIS IS A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN AND EXCELLENT ACTRESS........I LOVE SHE
Such a shame that Melanie Griffith didn't get to present to either of her nominated Working Girl nominees, Joan Cusack or Sigourney Weaver. Weaver was my absolute favourite for this award this year, still stunned that she didn't win the Oscar. She was AMAZING in Working Girl!

I hope before I go (I’m only fifty-one, but still), I hope Michelle Pfeiffer, Sigourney Weaver, and Glenn Close get their Academy Award.
To whom has no idea about it. Both presenters are parent to Fifty Shades Of Grey fame Dakota Johnson
GASP
Defo chemistry there
Um duh
She looks more like her dad
Who cares. Dakota does not get talent from parents
One of Hollywood’s most poignant and graceful actresses. Everything she’s done have been works of Art. This was an absolute fucking amazing win!! She played the role Muriel so well, so freaking amazing she’s just phenomenal.
What a gracious speech by Geena Davis.
IMHO, maybe the strongest year for supporting actress in all times. And Davis did it! Congrats, girl. :)
This was a tough year. Sigourney was brilliant as was Joan Cusack. Geena looked AMAZING!
and I thought I am the only one watching the oscars in the 80s,

arabinn 2015 You know, you are right, Glenn Close was amazing In Dangerous Liaisions!!!! I have been watching the Oscars for 40 years!!!! I love them. I love movies. I love the excitement of it all!!
Omg, Pfeiffer and Davis gorgoeus...
We don't have this kind of surprise today... the awards are so predictable now.
@@TommyLellan 2020/21 is really unpredictable.
Well, to be fair they were years that were incredibly predictable examples are 1982, 1939 or 1991
Geena Davis has great acting in The Accidental Tourist.
Lol
yup, i felt.for her.character.
A much deserved Oscar for a fantastic film.
am i the only came here for Davis and Goldblum totally most cutest couple in 80s???
Um......
Yaya Mercury Yes I agree just 2 days ago I was curious if they were still married, they where a beautiful couple!!!
Yaya Mercury definitely
today Davis is really ugly but Jeff looks better now than in the past....
Why does Goldbkum look like a cult leader trying to hypnotize the Camera?
Great group of nominees. All unique and highly watchable in their own right
I think Geena Davis' work in "The Accidental Tourist" is among the best performances to ever win the Supporting Actress Oscar.
I'm here for Frances McDormand's first nomination and reactions. She was once an obscured Oscar nominee, believe it or not.
Now she has 3 as of 2022
Geena Davis is one of the best actresses of 80-90's...but, here, the best is MICHELLE PFEIFFER, no doubt. She deserved the Oscar for her magnificent acting in 'Dangerous Liaisons'. Anyway Geena's work in Accidental Tourist was very good.

love geena davis. she deserved this award. her and William hurt had great chemistry
She and Jeff Goldblum were SO CUTE.
And the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award 2019 goes to Geena Davis.

0:00 - 1:45: Was this shit really necessary? Easily the worst, and most awkward, Oscar presentation in history, this was.
@Bob Schneider - agreed
The whole show was filled with that, as far as these two are concerned let them have a moment coz that was a period they were important
Agreed, it's awful. Nothing remotely cute or charming about it. Davis, on the other hand, was elegant and dignified.
Thinking the same 1 yr after you. So boring-not funny from 2 marginally talented people who dont even get any work anymore.
Not only were they as funny as a funeral, but so full of themselves, thinking everyone is interested in them. Pair of idiots.
Love Geena Davis! Acting AND archery what a woman!
she has pretty smile, make her very likable, she worth Oscar recognition
One has to remember that in 1989 those 2 were pretty much at the peak of their careers but those of those caeers are long over now!
Sigourney received 2 nominations that night and lost both...
and still hasnt won an oscar yet
Renan C. Maia Yeah, I know. And she was the first one to ever do so. Absolutely disgusting. Although the 4 previous actresses to have done so always won Supporting Actress, here Sigourney should have absolutely won Best Actress for Gorillas In The Mist.
She deserved it for Aliens but Sci-Fi never wins or is barely even nominated for Oscars. :-(
Are you guys kidding? Foster in The Accused and Close in Dangerous Liaisons were both better in my opinion. In the academies opinion as well as Close got the 2nd most votes this year. Weaver is great in GitM but against Foster and Close? Maybe a bit out of her depth.
Geena Davis deserve to win pure and simple they all did amazing jobs but she just did the best job I believe.
Miss. Gina was excellent in movie she won this OSCAR for. She looked 👀 absolutely stunning in her gown & she is CLASSY & BEYOND GORGEOUS! ❤ 👏 👏 👏 👏 🌹 🌹 💎 💎
I feel like Melanie Griffith and her voice were completely ‘Born Yesterday’ character all the time 😅
Fantastic actress ❤
I think this was the first time the phrase "And the Oscar goes to..." was used.
I was rooting for Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Pfeiffer but Geena Davis was fantastic too. I think her most underrated films are Hero (1992), Cutthroat Island (1995) and especially The Long KIss Goodnight (1996)
Hero is the most underrated comedy of the 90s.
The Long Kiss Goodnight is quirky but really enjoyable!
alex blend also Stuart little
@duckiedale80 I do not know SO MUCH ABOUT Geena Davis, BUT SHE'S VERY PRETTY ,AND SEEMS TO BE ALRIGHT
Both supporting categories that year were top-quality, competitive and unpredictable right until the very end. Geena Davis and Kevin Klines ended up as the surprise-ish winners, since there was no clear front-runner in either category.
My god Geena was gorgeous and awesome ❤❤❤
Dakotas Mom Dad also look lovely together ❤❤❤

Of course Geena was great in the film and she deserved the Oscar.
All the nominees are amazing actors!
One has since gone on to win three Best Actress Oscars (Frances McDormand). As for Sigourney, Michelle and Joan- I really hope your time comes.
I love Geena but Sigourney Weaver definitely deserves for her role in Working Girl !!
And I think Frances McDormand should have won for her performance in "Mississippi Burning"
Don Johnson's hair is fantastic in this clip.
Jeff Goldblum, what a beast. Look at his face here, it's like he's saying "oh stop," and "who's your daddy?" at the same time. Daaaaamn, now that's talent.
That aqua dress is amazing! Geena Davis WOW . Geena was the tallest girl in school and i was the tallest boy in my school.
Frances Mc Dormand is now two times Oscar best actress winner for a leading role ...Fargo 1996 & Three Billboards of Outside Ebbing Missouri 2017. ..
OMG, from this clip, I can't see why Melanie Griffith married Don Johnson twice, but I can definitely see why she divorced him twice...
They're all great actors
Geena is a screen icon she emmulates greatness
I loved Geena Davis in The Accidental Tourist, but for me Sigourney Weaver in Working Girl remains the best!
Both Pfeiffer and McDormand were better picks here over Weaver. Weaver is barely acting in Working Girl.
R F Weaver played against type in “Working Girl”. Before that she had always been given the tough girl role. In Working Girl she played a glamorous, seductive, pretentious high-class bitch and she was very convincing.
Melanie was pregnant with Dakota at that ceremony.
She looks absolutely fabulous.
I can't believe Mercedes Ruehl was not nominated for Married To the Mob. That was her best performance in a film. Shocking that Dean Stockwell also lost.
She was brilliant in Thelma & Louise, absolutely on par with Susan Sarandon.
I loved when Melanie was riding Jeff Daniels. She looks like a good time!
Geena's dress is gorgeous and so is she
Parabéns, Geena! Que banho de interpretação você deu em "O turista acidental"... Eu ficaria muito triste se você não vencesse...
Sigourney foi roubada.
Smart, Gorgeous, Best actress ...
Geena Davis...
I love her so much... she looks so much like my sister that passed away
I hate Oscar banter, but Melanie did get off a good burn.
OMG Dakota have his face so much, and have her voice so good!
I like Geena Davis but that was Michelle's year, the best actress of her generation. And she hasn't an Oscar.
Kinda yes Michelle definitely deserved atleast one ❤
Sigourney deserved an Oscar that year
Yeah she should’ve won
Geena Davis deserved this Oscar. Sigourney winning would have been like Meryl Streep winning for Devil wears Prada, just no.
Sigourney was also nominated for Gorillas in the Mist, now THAT should have won her the Oscar!

Geena Davis deserved this award and she nominated again for Thelma and Louise and she proved herself as an actress she was great in The Fly, A Leaque Of Their Own, The Accidental Tourist and she proved herself over and she was in The Last Kiss Goodnight. She can play an action hero too.
One of hardest year for Supporting actress. McDormand very well. But Cusack, Weaver, Pfeiffer and Davis are brilliant!!!!!!!!!!
Geena davis classic beauty hands down.
Geena Davis is glamorous to the ninth degree!
Such class she had as did the show
What happened since ??
Nobody wears Reynold's Wrap Aluminum Foil better than Genna Davis! She's beautiful!
Geena Davis looks like a princess in that dress, so beautiful.
She designed the dress I believe.
