@@Dustomatic well maybe my idea of a buffet is different because the ones I went to (we had this awesome one called Old country buffet it was amazing especially as a kid you could go get a soda and put macaroni and cheese on ice cream, sushi you name it. My point is that usually in a buffet in my part of the country you don't have a waiter you just go and grab up whatever the hell you want. I guess you would have some crabby customers that would be mad if the tray wasn't full when they walked in and you have to cater with them. I've never been to a buffet that had a waiter.

The answer is different for different people. But once you acknowledge it, you intrinsically respect each other more because now you’re not strangers anymore. His manager(and apparently the whole Golden Corral chain) knows this and set up a system to expedite this process.

Our jobs teach us a lot about life and he had so much respect for his customers to get to know their names and their favourite dishes. Keep your standards high and treat people right. As an immigrant from the Philippines, Golden Corral is the first time I had a real US steak. Not saying it's the best, but it was my first, and it changed my life.
That was a nice story. I'm humbled to learn what he took away from the experience of working at Golden Corral. A lot of times you only hear complaints and bitterness from people when discussing work experiences.
The best waiter I’ve ever had was a young man that worked at our local Golden Corral when I was a kid. He was fantastic, and we played a game where I tried to finish my drink before he refilled it. Never happened. My parents made sure we sat at one of his tables, we would wait if needed. I was crushed when he moved on, and no one else could compare. I hope he did well, would love to talk to him now.

I love this story, he’s such a good story teller! I relate to his message at the gym I go to. I see the same people everyday and we all know there we are there to exercise and better ourselves. I never speak to any of them, nor do I make eye contact. But I notice when they’re not there. It’s weird but It’s comforting to know what people are about.

I've never work on a buffet in my life and I problably never will. Nontheless, I've seen this video hundreds of times. Roy's story resonate with me in a way that should make no sense. But it does. I love his storytelling and the heart he puts in the whole bit. So, I'm sure Roy will never read this, but I just wanna thank him. As a person from the pacific northwest where buffets aren't really that great or popular, I can confirm Golden Corral has their shit together. My wife and I were taken there on a visit to Oklahoma several years ago and it was a revelation.

You should never feel embarrassed by what you like! The two most important people at any establishment: hospital, hotel, truck stop, wherever, are the cook and the janitor. Always make friends with them. If the cook calls you french fries, after 2-3 friendly interactions you can and Will get extra fries. When I was at a hospital one time, I would always order a burger with extra bacon fries and extra side of pickles. Dudes name was Ronny. After 3 days no up charge on extra bacon, he would close the lid and tell me to tell the cashier it was a plain burger. End of the week, he would see me on line and have it ready, walk it around the counter and tell me to go out the side door for free lunch. If you dont like being called french fries, just chuckle and say "the names,*insert your preferred name* but I dooooooo looooove french fries!" I guarentee you will start getting double fries for free.
I go in cycles to my local Starbuck's. When I'm dragging ass and don't get up for work early enough to make my own coffee....I'm there more often. When I'm going good...I get up early and I might not go in for a couple weeks. But they remember me and always know my order. When Covid hit.....they were one of the only places still open. I always threw extra money in the tip cup. It's weird to get nostalgic for a corporate chain place....but it's not really about that. It's about the people who work at my local....and for some reason, they always remember me, and they always take care of me.
That's how you tell a story. He kept the suspense and the ending was worth the wait.

I go in cycles to my local Starbuck's. When I'm dragging ass and don't get up for work early enough to make my own coffee....I'm there more often. When I'm going good...I get up early and I might not go in for a couple weeks. But they remember me and always know my order.
When Covid hit.....they were one of the only places still open. I always threw extra money in the tip cup.
It's weird to get nostalgic for a corporate chain place....but it's not really about that. It's about the people who work at my local....and for some reason, they always remember me, and they always take care of me.
This is why the show has gotten better and better each season. Roy is amazing.
