  • After a loud awakening in the morning, Matt continues with the soybean harvest. But first he has to harvest his Pioneer Enlist soybean plots to find out how they compare in yield to XTend varieties.

    Another reason for the cost of barges is there is hardly anyone wanna work and the river is definitely below normal stage which means the boats can't move as many barges up and down which keeps them in fleets longer waiting to be emptied.

    You kinda have to grow the Xtend just as protection from drift then even if your not applying

    Prefer enlist. Dicamba moves too much in our humidity plus once the deadline for using extend, your out of luck. This is especially true with double crop beans. Enlist sure cleaned up my Marestail.

    I bought extendflex for next year, not super impressed with enlist on marestail. It seems to stop it from growing for a while then it tillers out about six new shoots. With the extendflex I figured use dicamba for burndown and then liberty for in season escapes

    Good video! Yep we had to go to enlist beans 3 years ago. With all the nursery that gets grown in this area it was definitely a better choice. Haven't looked back as far as yield either. We just got done a week ago and it was kind of weird. They looked better than 56 bushel beans but I guess the heat hurt worse than we thought it did. Even though we were nowhere near as dry as yall we're. We tried a stine enlist bean this year in a couple spots to try that was definitely a good performer.

      @griggsfarmsllc  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s funny because @DylanJoyceFarms had some Stine Enlist and said they were awful. Probably different varieties and maturity

      @fordsfarms1297 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@griggsfarmsllc I don't think the stine has as good of a heat tolerance as the others but we had a lot of 4 bean pods they just didn't fill out or what was in them was so small they blew out the back.

    if it werent for the constant exposure to that level of chemicals, or in another life... I would TOTALLY be a Ag pilot. Gotta be as close as you can get to a fighter pilot with out eating a bullet.

    I don’t deal with any of the napalm crap, but know people who do, and they aren’t fans of the enlist.

    Great bean production.
    Have you tried any test plots with heirloom soybeans? Might cut input costs if you get them to work out.
    Crazy drift problem with those chemicals, glad you are not using some of them.

    Kelly told us all about this crossing. I am happy she did not see this until the video. lol Right Kelly? And Matt I never saw anyone trim the edges of a drainage ditch with a combine. lol Matt isn't amazing for what we pay for our electric power the companies do not use some of that money to improve our power grid and infrastructure? How long do you think it will take for the blue gator ade govjuice to be in a huge shortage or can not get? Did you have deer damage in your bean fields compared to the yield plot? Sorry for the long comment but I enjoy you showing the dtruggles of the smaller family farms and the struggle it is within the family to be successful and Kelly is so important where in so many huge farms the wife and family is absent. Thank you Griggs family and you sharing. I hope Matt remembers this old farmer from southern Minnesota that thumbs up every video with enjoyment.

      Deer are definitely becoming a bigger problem every year. Especially as they get pushed into smaller and smaller areas with all of the development going on

    Also discussed is water levels vs barge draft, dredging and barge, train, truck capacity comparisons. Very informative.
