I have love blackwing pencil for years since my school store started stocking them! Expensive, but last so long time, and best pencil musician and student.
Love Blackwings and never felt the need to collect all of them... there's only four lead types, which is easy to memorize. I have the standard leads and one special edition because I enjoyed the look of it.
I know this is a old video but I just wanted to say Thank you for sharing and explaining each one. which one would recommend for sketching out a pictures before applying acrylic paint or watercolor?
Glad it was helpful! I’d recommend the harder pencil cores for under a painting. Softer graphite will smear a bit with water based paints so it may show through lighter colors.
That is a good question! I’m guessing yes- they must master the human figure in order to create imaginary characters but I think their training differs from the artist who is studying to create figure paintings in a classical sense. Comic books demand more drawings produced more rapidly than a painter and the technology/materials are different. Plus comic books use exaggerated muscles and perspective. So there is overlap but the training includes different areas of study. Great question!!
@@kachidereodumeh2040 I think there are commercial schools for animators that would have comic book arts training and in colleges in the US there are different majors for painting vs animation/ commercial illustration and the courses are different. I bet you could do an internet search for ‘study to become a comic book illustrator’ and find some schools and articles. I bet there are TH-cam channels for comic artists/illustrators as well!
Cool, nobody can beat the pencil eraser and the overall shape, Michelangelo would have designed the Blackwing and this beauty will make one perform better for sure- gear matters when one is not a beginner (if one is middle skilled to expert to ultra). God bless.
The eraser is cool, for sure. But I think artist grade pencils are still better and have a better range of cores. To each their own- so many pencils to love thankfully!
I use 602 and MMX Blackwings. They make a nice on-the-go sketchbook set. As you say, they include an eraser. I got sucked into the pencil collection thing but drew the line at "limited editions." Your "OMG, I want that" syndrome is a collector addiction and not for me.
All kinds of big hooey on the 602. What is hard to research is before the yellow and white boxed Eberhard Faber 602's, there was a blue boxed E.B. 602. Those guys had a gloss black band on the gold ferrule. Less than a month ago, (Feb 2022) a blue box with 7 602's with black bands went for over a thousand bucks on ebay. I saved a screen grab. So, there's a cabal of collectors who want those earlier Eberhard Fabers the most. I have a few later unused E.F. 602's, but they were about 30 each. Cheap now. I did buy one about your size with sharpener crimp marks on it for nine bucks. I'm going to use it in an animated film dedicated to Da Crafsman and his Steady Crafting channel. As a rocket.
I do not get the hipe. They are to long and backheavy with the erasor. And I always carry a real "stand-alone" erasor.. and when drawing it is in my left hand ... pencil i right hand. So I look at them, and buy some more Faber-Castell, Staedtler or Mitsubishi Hi-Uni
Ok so my opinions are just that - my opinions! Which statement offended you? And just to be clear - I don’t argue with folks on the internet. No one wins at that game! I wish all humans well.
Add the "Matte"- very dark soft improvement
Nice!

I love that your school had them! I used to go crazy at stationary stores as a kid and teen🤩

They are honestly becoming one of my favorite pencils. But just for writing and taking notes only
I agree, I like them better for writing than for drawing!
Good day ma'am. I have a question. Do most comic book artist pass through realistic drawing in order to develope their drawing style?

Thank so much ma'am, but, what type of training are you talking about and how does it differ from painters?

I really like using blackwing pencils :)
They are very stylish, for sure!

The gold line on the surfing pencil is actually the California coast line. Just a fun fact
The details make these better- that is for sure! Thanks for sharing!

There is room for all kinds of pencil owners & collectors & what I am (a pencil user by profession) in this world! :) Glad you found your arena.

Are you a part of the Erasables podcast group because they are your people!

Mostly I do too. But I do like a blackwing for note taking
Since you’re a pencil geek...do you know of CW Pencil Enterprise in New York?
Of course!😊 and John’s store too: www.etsy.com/market/kamikokuen
There is an extender now when the pencil is very short.
An extender for blackwings 🧐?
I found a box of vintage Blackwings in a thrift store and they sold on eBay for just over $320 for the dozen. Crazy!!
Wow- that’s a lucky find!!
I dunno if I'd buy them.
I use them more for writing than drawing, for sure. And they are pricey for that!
You are very cute.
Nice colection.
You are so kind. Thanks. I'll use those pencils up in no time! Thanks for watching!
I don’t ‘collect’ blackwings, and plenty of people like them for how they feel laying them down. This is not a fair statement to make about Blackwing.
