One of my favorite videos on all of TH-cam. Everything, from the music to the narration to the cinematography, is really well done. First time I saw it I was not prepared for the emotional response that I had. I was expecting just a nice video of some guy on the street looking through a telescope. To see so many different people's wonderment and joy brought tears to my eyes. I like to come back to this video every now and then when I'm feeling a bit exasperated with how bad we sometimes treat each other. Space can be a great unifier and give people a sense of hope - if the will just look up!
It makes all this hate and death seems so small and meaningless. I the people that need to feel what we feel when we see this, won't feel the same thing. Sadly some people just don't have empathy or compassion. The world is full or psychopaths, and sociopaths, and by their own nature they can be convinced to care about others.
Why am I crying? I am a man. Was it the music, or perhaps the awe and wow in each ones face, perhaps that is the truest of the feelings, which we humans still have left, in this materialistic world!
Showed my 10 year old nephew the moon through a telescope last night. His gasps and smile blew me away. Then I showed him Saturn and its rings and Jupiter and it’s four Galilean moons. No. The science lacks COMMUNICATOR. A simple, funny, easy-to-deliver scientist to engage with people to share its knowledge. Thats what science lacks. I hope science program can open a special semester to integrate its understanding to public relation and enhance the ability to easily share the knowledge to people
How can you go through life without looking at the moon through a telescope? Our education system is failing. I loved their reaction, but shocked there are people who have not had the opportunity or intellectual curiosity to view the moon with a telescope. Think of the potential scientists that are lost because lack of exposure and education.
WOW this just made me cry. My Dad just died this year 3 days before my birthday and when I was about 5 he bought me a telescope, a good one because I was so obsessed with astronomy then and now and I remember this exact reaction and just sitting there next to my pool with my Dad staring at the moon for hours. I hadn't thought of that in years so this was very touching and sentimental for me. I wish I could see it from your telescope because though I got a great look I'm sure it's nothing compared to your view. This was so special, thanks for making this. I always thought I was such a strange kid and adult because I felt an actual.anger that I could never go to space, it didn't seem fair that I'd never get to touch the moon that has always meant so much to me.
When I was 8 years old, the local astronomy club brought their telescopes to my school one night. I can still vividly recall seeing Jupiter and the shadow of tiny Io as it crossed - so glad I had that experience as a child.
The local astronomy club does this at the top of a local mountain once a month (next to the cafe, at the lookout, usually there are lots of people around especially at sunset). Went a few months ago and saw Jupiter and a couple of the moon's, was amazing!
Each subsequent viewing reveals more detail about how deftly and artfully this was made. That closing telephoto shot is just heart-splinteringly powerful. Thank you for this gift.
I love those first reactions. Reminded me of when I was around 20 and took a telescope to the backyard and saw Saturn's rings for the first time so close. It was truly breathtaking.
I've watched this video a bunch of times and it literally leaves me in tears...every-single-time. I love all of your (four) To scale: videos and they leave me wanting for more. You guys do a terrific job and I hope we'll get to see more new videos real soon. Keep up the good work! Peace ✌️
This popped up today on my computer. It's been FOUR years since I discovered it...and I still nearly weep with the beauty, the wonder, the communal awe...
At first I was impatient ... waiting for a stellar moonshot. Then I gradually realized the power of this remarkable film. The sheer joy of those faces ... "Oh my God! ". The shared reactions bring tears to my eyes. Truly inspiring. Thank you.
Thank you, man. I didn't even know I was so fragile emotionally today, but this short video led me to tears. What you did is exactly what I've been fighting for my whole life. Thank you very much once again. Thank you.
I used to do this in my neighborhood. When people would walk by I'd invite them to see the moon. I had an 8 inch dobsonian telescope. The light from the moon would light up their eye and they always gasped. Pictures and video can't do it justice. Not only can you see seemingly the tiniest detail, but you feel see the air of the atmosphere slightly rippling the image. I used to see bats fly across the face of the moon through my telescope, from a great distance. They were tiny little flapping dots, and it would take four or five seconds for them to cross it. Pure magic.
Ken Murphy Probably a combination of low elevation (telescope look angle above the horizon), as you suggest, and some relatively high-flying bats (a few to several hundred meters up) at long distance from the viewing site is what I would guess. =)
This is like when the characters in a movie see an awe inspiring thing that changes their lives forever. With the music and footage this is movie material.
I wasn't expecting the vid to be about people's sense of wonder and amazement rather than pics of the moon. Showing a cross-section of people really showed how we're all the same in many ways. Awesome
When my grand-daughter was 3 yrs. old, she lived in L.A. when I lived in Maine. I used to call her when the moon was beginning to rise in L.A. and ask if she could see the SAME MOON I was looking at from so far away. I used to pretend that we could both see it at the same time and she liked that. We always ended our calls with, “Meet you on the Moon”. I had forgotten those moments, until I watched your video. BRAVO to you for a beautiful gift of enlightening these city folks! It is 2:00 a.m. and we are now living north of L.A. Sleep alludes me because my grand-daughter, now 15 yrs. old is lying in a hospital bed. She is at Cedar’s-Sinai going in to her 5th week in ICU with what they are calling a “rare virus”. There is no question in my heart what that virus is. Likely some mutation of Covid-19. We are praying that she will recover. Thank You for the beautiful act of showing Angelenos how to “Meet you on the Moon” and for reminding this Grandma of those precious moments.
Oh my God! I'm in tears! I got goosebumps running up and down my arms. I've watched it three times already and I still get the same reaction. Claude Debussy's Claire de Lune was the perfect soundtrack for it. Thank you for this beautifully made video and reminding us that despite all the strife and hate, it is still very much a beautiful world worth fighting for.
A beautiful production: great reactions, great locations, excellent camerawork, and excellent editing. If only more people could see this. (I used to work in tv and have a 12" Dob Scope.)
This is it. The moon, our light of night, has been with this planet for a real long time. But no one is tired of it. No one is tired of its serenity. No one, indeed will ever get bored by its melancholic light, its presence. I cried with a shitload of stress while watching it. Really reminds me of Rabindranath Tagore when he said, "মরিতে চাহি না আমি সুন্দর ভুবনে ” In English it is ' I don’t want to die in this beautiful world'. Moon taught the world what pain, the beauty helds inside. I am never getting tired of it.
Up until I was 5ish, I thought the moon and sun followed me, and only me, around. My mom said something like, "ya honey you'll always see them because they want to be with you forever" or something like that, so I guess I took it to heart lol. I would run back and forth throughout my yard and cul-de-sac to see if the sun ever 'left me' and it never did. And then at night i would check to see if the moon was always there and it was! ...then my dad told me that that happens to everyone and ya I cried some, but I've been hooked ever since. everyone seeing the sun and moon wherever they went stumped me and I had to find out how and things went on from there. so yeah. Lol so embarrassing!! but that's what sparked my interest in space and all that.
I love it! I remember being 5 years old, walking home from an evening program at school with my mom, and noticing for the first time that the moon was following us. One of my earliest and best memories.
I remember as a kid (in the 70's), my dad had a construction company and had a very small telescope for shooting elevations on construction sites and he would sometimes take it out and let us look at the moon and stars with it, particularly when there was an eclipse. It wasn't anywhere near this good, of course, but it still fascinated me and made me even more interested in our universe as a whole. This was a great reminder that we can still be inspired to look up at the wonders of our world with awe. Thank you for sharing this.
Even for an old Moon hand like me, this was a powerful and emotional watch. And Claire de Lune was my dear departed mother's all time favorite piece of music, so that added additional poignancy. A great video!
Its amazing finding something that brings everyone together no lines whatsoever. No matter what MSM creates, we are all one. We are all linked, all the same. One of the best videos out there bud. Great job😊
It’s so cool that you did this for people. Everyone who accepted your invitation to view, was benefited by what they saw. Poignant existential realizations must have occurred for each of them.
Thank you so much for providing a video of your gracious and generous gift to the public!!!! (And all because you were bored!) I wish I could've been there like the people in the video but since I wasn't, it is still super cool to see it as it happened. Thank you again for your generosity!
I think it's because it's so close you can see real detail. Looking at like Saturn, Venus, Jupiter is cool and all, but on the moon you can see craters and rock formations. Pity it's hard (impossible?) to get Lunar Lander level of detail, that would blow people minds.
The thing that flabbergasts me is the number of people who HAVEN'T ever seen the moon thru a telescope. I got my first telescope when I was 12. It's really sort of sad how many people have never taken the time to look at the skies above us.
In sad and violent times, this is what we need more of. I just discovered your channel and it doesn’t seem like you guys post a lot, but I subscribed and will patiently wait for more amazing content and probably rewatch every episode periodically. Thanks you so much ❤
This is how I feel every time I get my own telescope out and why I enjoy astronomy so much! I just wish I could get my all my friends to see the wonder that is our universe... I usually get the response "I've seem pictures, what's the difference?" They just don't get how real it is when you see it with your own eyes...
the moon is so mesmerizing, so beautiful and elegant, lighting up the night and dusk, i believe we can all agree that we’ll all go hours on end just gazing at its beautiful surface.
@Saul Goode It looks like it to me. Why not bring the same reaction to someone clearly less fortunate? Who better than the homeless? I am conservative and can see that bringing joy to all people is something that we can all try to practice and imitate. I commend this young man for thinking of this and being a catalyst for curiosity to complete strangers.
Thanks for sharing your scope with the public, that was cool. You probably don't even know the ripple effect you have caused in someone life from looking through your telescope.
I’m a retired astronomer and I still get blown away by the moon. I showed it to my neighbors a few nights ago and they had the same reaction as the people in this video. The first time I ever showed Saturn to my wife she was speechless. As a professional telescopes are just tools of the trade. You attach instruments to them and reduce the data later. To actually look at something through one really puts things in perspective and reminds you how insignificant we really are in the grand scheme of things.
Alomst gave me tears, thanks guy 😝 no really though, it's a beautiful sight, seeing so many people in pure awe like a child when they discover something new. Same with geology and gems, people turn into little kids looking at my finds and I've only been doing it a month or so. Very nice telescope btw, mine's only a little one but this makes me want to dust it off and set it up.. Jupiter must be amazing right now!
Idk why but seeing all the faces & hearing their responses got me very emotional! I love to go out & look up, no matter what phase the moon is in....I LOVE IT! We are blessed to be able to see such beauty. Please make more more videos! I just happens to roll up on this one & the scaled solar system...it was AMAZING.
I had these binoculars for years. On a warm summer night, I was enjoying a cup of Turkish coffee in my back garden. My home was on a hill and had a beautiful view. the moon was shining and for the first time, I turned the scope to the moon. My reaction was the same with the people in this video... Fucking amazing. I was asking myself why didn't I think about that before.
and that's the best part, you don't need a big telescope to get the same awe and sense of wonder that the people here did. I have a really good pair as well. First time I saw the moon through them it left me speechless :D
That's because the moon is *extremely* close to us - just 80-90 times the distance from LA to NY. And it is also reasonably large. What we see when the the moon is full is about twice the area of the U.S. No wonder you don't need the Hubble space telescope for that... :-)
Two BIG thumbs up!!! Beautifully written, performed, filmed and produced! I just viewed your “solar system to scale“ . . . So, PLEASE keep producing these uplifting, motivational works of art!
Those are best viewed AFTER the Moon. The Moon is a Broadway show. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn; they come later, once you're exposed to the power of a big 'scope.
Crazy thing is all of those people will remember that moment forever. It's sad in a way that we don't look up to the sky as much as before - the sky was pretty much our entire part of the human culture until the industrial revolution.
remytv True. Industrial revolution brought "Light pollution". Due to which we can't see all of the stars, the planets in the sky. Infact, in areas with least light pollution, you can see the whole milky way galaxy! Isn't that marvellous?
Yea, I live in a small Canada town and only need to drive about 15 minutes with my telescope to find a nice spot on a mountain where you can see it all. It's pretty cool I got a lot of my friend interested in it whenever I go.
to see things like this in real time is not to be underestimated. I remember when i first saw the crescent shape ov Venus, the moons of Jupiter or the rings of Saturn for the first time in a telescope. That feeling of having witnessed something in real time, not a picture in a book or off the internet. It really sells the story of our place in this universe. Thank you so much for sharing their reactions.
You do great stuff! Glad you're back with more. As for the Moon, its the first thing I ever looked at through a telescope and I was hooked for life. Look at it through mine all the time. People's reactions are universal, in LA or London or Australia (where I am). And, yes, we should look up more often. Thanks and keep making great stuff. Do you accept Patreons?
I agree, the moon is something I look at almost every night it's out. It never gets old for me. But the thing that really sealed the deal for me loving astronomy and buying my own telescope was Jupiter and its moons... The first time I got the moon's of Jupiter in the telescope... Words cannot describe just how real the universe became at that moment, the vastness of space and the wonder of it all. Now I belong to an astronomy group that owns it's own observatory and gives free tours of our universe to the public on a semi-weekly basis. I only wish we could share it with even more people than we do.
This is such a great video. As an amateur astronomer, there is no greater joy than sharing a spontaneous view with random people on the street, beach, wherever! Well done, and keep on sharing!
We are all so inundated by our own lives that we forget there is an entire world out there full of awe, mysteries, and beauty... All just above our heads.

Then it's value and amazement would diminish. The experience is only memorable if you feel like you've never experienced something like it before.
You deserve more subscribers man. This is what TH-cam is supposed to be for.
When I was 8 years old, the local astronomy club brought their telescopes to my school one night. I can still vividly recall seeing Jupiter and the shadow of tiny Io as it crossed - so glad I had that experience as a child.
You can go explore IO on a game called Destiny 2, its pretty fun
@@Gregapher destiny 2 is shit, explore Io in kerbal space program, much more realistic.
The local astronomy club does this at the top of a local mountain once a month (next to the cafe, at the lookout, usually there are lots of people around especially at sunset).
Went a few months ago and saw Jupiter and a couple of the moon's, was amazing!
Thank for sharing great story 🥲
He who did not see the moon through a telescope hasn't lived a complete life yet.
Raz Hal I haven't... I'm gonna save a fortune and buy myself a telescope someday.

Next step . . . Saturn and the Rings. Majestic !
Billions of people have no access to modern telescopes. So, their life is incomplete?

"we all have the same reaction to the universe we live in" goddamn this teared me up with a smile
Beautiful video, thank you so much
Each subsequent viewing reveals more detail about how deftly and artfully this was made. That closing telephoto shot is just heart-splinteringly powerful. Thank you for this gift.
I love those first reactions. Reminded me of when I was around 20 and took a telescope to the backyard and saw Saturn's rings for the first time so close. It was truly breathtaking.
Same here....age 12. THAT was something to behold.
Damn I'm jealous.
I've watched this video a bunch of times and it literally leaves me in tears...every-single-time. I love all of your (four) To scale: videos and they leave me wanting for more. You guys do a terrific job and I hope we'll get to see more new videos real soon. Keep up the good work!
Peace ✌️
What do you mean terrific?
“Is that, like, a live image?”
that’s so precious
This popped up today on my computer. It's been FOUR years since I discovered it...and I still nearly weep with the beauty, the wonder, the communal awe...
I still love this vid too. It's just wonderful isn't it? 😀
Thank you.
🥲🤘
You probably changed that kid's life and he will become now a famous scientist. What an awesome video, almost cried of emotion!
All of those reactions were so sincere and beautiful! I'm sitting here all emotional, just happy that you could share such magic with people.
Pure magic.
There are bats on the moon?
Ken Murphy (Starts to mentally formulate an explanation)...yes.
I guess they must fly over when the moon is close to the horizon
Ken Murphy Probably a combination of low elevation (telescope look angle above the horizon), as you suggest, and some relatively high-flying bats (a few to several hundred meters up) at long distance from the viewing site is what I would guess. =)
Ken Murphy Moon bats. Also there are insects. They are called Luna ticks.
Awesome
John Dobson is Smiling.
"Come see the Moon!! Come see the Moon!!"
So is Carl.
Every telescope maker/inventor is smiling.
John touched a lot of us. Bless you.
She will recover, no doubt at that. You will meet again on the Moon!
This is just an all around beautiful video.......the moon is outstanding but the unity that it creates in us.....is BEAUTIFUL!
A beautiful production: great reactions, great locations, excellent camerawork, and excellent editing. If only more people could see this. (I used to work in tv and have a 12" Dob Scope.)
Can’t stop smiling. Amazing work 😍❤️
I was almost crying when I saw people's reactions in this video... I don't even know exactly why. Isn't it weird?
That's actually what made everyone here cried
This is it. The moon, our light of night, has been with this planet for a real long time. But no one is tired of it. No one is tired of its serenity. No one, indeed will ever get bored by its melancholic light, its presence. I cried with a shitload of stress while watching it. Really reminds me of Rabindranath Tagore when he said,
"মরিতে চাহি না আমি সুন্দর ভুবনে ”
In English it is ' I don’t want to die in this beautiful world'.
Moon taught the world what pain, the beauty helds inside. I am never getting tired of it.
For anyone wondering, yes, it feels amazing to set up a scope and have people see something they’ve taken for granted in a whole new way.
Patty C That's a good theme for a children's book or something. Kinda cute!
Beautiful story!
I love it! I remember being 5 years old, walking home from an evening program at school with my mom, and noticing for the first time that the moon was following us. One of my earliest and best memories.
good job. at least now you know how parallax works. hehehe.
That story makes me really happy. Thanks for sharing it! =D
This channel has only 4 uploaded videos but over 50k subscribers. That's gotta be some kind of record.

Thank you so much
Well this made me cry. I've always loved the Moon and it's so heartwarming to see people's reactions
WOOO! FUCK YEAH! I KNEW STAYING SUBSCRIBED WOULD BE WORTH IT! SEE YA NEXT YEAR, BOIS!
Their reactions brought tears to my eyes, Can't thank you enough
I’ve got my own telescope, I’ve seen the moon through it so many times, yet something always makes me set up the telescope to look at it again.
Thanks TH-cam Algorithm, You made my Day full of Peace.

Absolutely magnificent. Science..... not Fiction! Big applause 👏🏿
I love the moon. I've taken thousands of pictures of the moon in my 72 years. It never gets old. It's an addiction.
This is how I feel every time I get my own telescope out and why I enjoy astronomy so much! I just wish I could get my all my friends to see the wonder that is our universe...
I usually get the response "I've seem pictures, what's the difference?" They just don't get how real it is when you see it with your own eyes...
Joshua Johnson So true 😊
How can someone turn down the opportunity , or just not be interested?! I would never get tired of looking!
I look up every chance I GET. Thanks 🙏🏻
Nice telescope too!
This video makes me want to share the moon through my own telescope every time i watch it! I do it a few times a month here at my college campus.
the moon is so mesmerizing, so beautiful and elegant, lighting up the night and dusk, i believe we can all agree that we’ll all go hours on end just gazing at its beautiful surface.
I sure HOPE YOU still take your telescope around the streets of Los Angeles to give passersby an up-close
Absolutely loved this video!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for sharing your scope with the public, that was cool. You probably don't even know the ripple effect you have caused in someone life from looking through your telescope.
Positive project for world improvement.
It's affordable and produces a large result for the people who experience it.
Wonderful. In the great tradition of John Dobson and sidewalk astronomy. “Come see the Moon!” Well done.
You guys should upload more often tbh. This channel is interesting af
And I said to myself..
What a wonderful world
(And moon, earths kid brother)
The moon is a reminder obviously it's not a physical object that reality is imagined like a dream.
Underrated comment
Beautiful video, exactly what I subscribed 2 years ago for. Keep it up
Idk why but seeing all the faces & hearing their responses got me very emotional!
Unifying indeed. The musical score, the expressions both facial and verbal ? Beautifully unifying.
Thank you, I just subscribed.
imagine their reaction to showing them saturn or jupiter or mars
@remytv yeah, even here in Italy, the good old Alps are with ours :)
to see things like this in real time is not to be underestimated.
Damn this is gonna be viral soon
Dadang Master I hope so
5 months later lol
That's what she said.
The perfect video doesn’t ex…..
This is one of the few videos that I keep coming back to. So heart warming, and inspiring!
Absolutely! Thank you so, so much for watching and supporting. Amazing. www.patreon.com/toscaleseries
Yay! Good to see your stuff again. Thanks for the excellent video. :)
This is such a great video. As an amateur astronomer, there is no greater joy than sharing a spontaneous view with random people on the street, beach, wherever! Well done, and keep on sharing!
Yes. Your first look through a telescope will have you saying"Wooooooow"
Dear bro, we hope you get bored more often
We are all so inundated by our own lives that we forget there is an entire world out there full of awe, mysteries, and beauty... All just above our heads.
