What an amazing piece of kit. Designed before I was born.

Thanks so much for posting! 4:47 just to confirm, that middle piece is the service module, and the cone-shaped piece that returns to Earth is the command module.

That Lunar Lander is 100% legit and intended for landing on the Moon. It isn't a replica, but the real actual lander meant for the Moon. Seems to me that 99% of people who lay eyes on it don't grasp the fact that it's not supposed to be there. Millions were spent to drop it on the Moon. Thanks to budget cuts, I guess, a REAL Lunar Lander hangs right there in front of you. The upper half would be orbiting the moon right now if things went to plan...or it crashed to the surface, or it slowly pulled away from the Moon's gravity toward the great beyond. It's a special piece of Americana because in the Space Program, they don't duplicate pieces with museums in mind. It's there because it wasn't supposed to be.

The Lunar Module in the Apollo Saturn 5 Center was, indeed, assigned to Apollo 15, but when the mission was changed to take the new Lunar Rover to the Moon it required an upgraded Lunar Module capable of carrying the Rover. The LM we see here then became superfluous and ended up in this museum.
I was there almost a year ago - my fourth visit - and saw that the Lunar module is now at floor level, between the Saturn and the launch tower, in a simulated lunar scene, with the two astronauts beside it in their EVA suits.

Your voice sounds like the guy who provided television commentary during Space Shuttle launches.

Funny you say that because I can actually impersonate a few of them! I’d love to send you a few if I can!

@@mattmiller5671 Heheh. Now that I listen carefully, beehive guy is quite right - you **do** sound like the Shuttle commentator. I hope you do a better job of it than he did - honest to god, that guy could bore for his country. I watched the Artemis re-entry and splashdown and his commentary nearly put me to sleep.
