Fighting Messmer was 100% the highlight of the DLC. Being on NG5 meant I got my ass whoooped a lot, but Messmer made me feel like I might not have to die 100 times to beat him. We bonded, became friends even! Perfectly designed boss 10/10.
Messmer so far is my favorite boss fight. I’m on NG+6 and Messmer was difficult but so much fun to learn the move set and that combo is pretty cool. I haven’t fought bayle yet and now I’m stuck on the final boss😢. But seriously Messmer was my favorite boss fight
The dancing lion made me feel like i was being chased around by an overly happy, and overly drunken chinese dragon who just discovered it could also use elemental magic, much to its drunken delight.
Its Bayle and Midra for me, its not only about the bosses themselves but the places when you go to them build up the tension. For example where you go up in the mountains, weather becomes worse and you start to get the feeling that the storm is incoming.
Bayle too imo is up there. Has better presentation that all of these, better build up. Moveset is clean and intuitive. Although, people usually prefer human build boss duels, so Bayle may be not for eveyone. But Bayle is the best dragon fight we got, no doubt. I'd also add Midra to that list of bosses, imo has very great build up through horror woods, then manse is very atmospheric, moveset is clean, design is a banger and has one of the most metal cutscenes ever. Although much simpler than other Elden Ring bosses, imo Midra is not simpler than let's say Ludwig, moveset wise
@@forwardmoving8252 Nah, I like that they could create such a map that seems larger than it's picture. The only problem was quite a bit of area was lack luster and not much going on or Bootable.
Saying the music for scadutree avatar being forgettable is such a weird take for me, getting to the third stage and the music switches to such a sad theme making it almost sad when the reality kicks in that you’re killing a flower and its just clinging to life after trying to protect something 😂
I really enjoy the section playing when it comes back to life for its second phase, the overall sountrack matches the "dark" tone of the place and the boss's design well.
Midra was my personal favorite. The fight was awesome. I just wished there was more lore to him, like a mention of Shabriri or the 3 fingers. Wouldn't it be extra cool if the fight had a different scenario if you go into Midra while under the Frenzied Flame Influence? Missed opportunity there.
Bayle was the highlight of the DLC for me. The climb towards him, fighting drakes on the way, Igon, and then Bayle himself - hurt, furious and deadly. Narrative-wise, gameplay-wise, difficulty-wise, a perfect fight.
Yeah man, that climb with the red lightning everywhere getting more intense with each spiritspring jump. Higher and higher, seeing dragon corpses everywhere and fighting that appetizer dragon before moving higher and higher... the buildup was insane.
Another great vid! I didn't know the Scadutree Avatar had three healthbars. I thought it kept respawning because of the stumps...so every attempt I was running around the whole arena baiting the Avatar to destroy all the stumps. Ah, good fun.
That's a geniunely cool idea for a boss though, having it destroy its own arena to weaken itself. Admittedly, it could very easily become frustrating, but I'd love to see something like that being pulled off by Fromsoft in their next game.
Tf r u talking about? Get good it’s a great boss. Beat it NG + 7 No Damage without summons, but at first he took me 10 hrs to even beat once on regular NG. Just practise before calling the boss bad.
Radahn doing a Lions Claw attack is easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen in this game and the music in phase 1 is amazing, however I really hate phase 2 of this fight. Messmer and Rellana are easily my favorite DLC bosses tho

@@firstorderblade4432 Meh, Messmer, Rellana, Bayle, Scadutree Avatar and Dancing Lion are better in my opinion. It somewhat matches the tone of the fight but it's not the best in the DLC and clearly not the best in the game (Radagon's theme is way better for a final god fight).
The designs of all the top 3 bosses are absolutely phenomenal; I personally especially like Midra. Radahn was a bit of a disappointment for me. The fight felt really cheap, and in the end I don't even know how I defeated him, I only remember that I was simply glad that it was over---unlike the majority of the other bosses, where learning their movesets and how to dodge them was actually fun.
The fight is one of the most fun fights in the series when you learn it but i can see how people dont find it fun at first it can get tricky learning how to dodge some moves
@@Pofr557 Meh, I wouldn't say that, felt very tedious to the point where I was zoning out, playing using pure muscle memory and out of boredom because of how cheap the fight felt. When I was sad that it was over for other well designed bosses (Messmer, Scadutree avatar, Midra, Dancing Lion), I was just happy not to have to do this shit again with Radhan.
Midra is hands down the best boss in the DLC to me, S-ranks across the board. Messmer was probably number 2 and Bayle third only for Gigachad Igon making the fight more fun.
My favorite is Rellana mostly because those intimate sword dance bosses like Maria, Gael, and Malenia are my preferred playstyle. I like fast, graceful swordplay and Rellana delivers. Plus, her gear was perfect for my aesthetic, though as said in the video I wish there was more lore. Then also as a dragon fan Bayle is right at number two. Didn't care for Radahn as much. I much preferred his base game form and since I knew we were fighting Miquella I was hoping for a rematch with Malenia but oh well
This tierlist almost perfectly reflects my views on these bosses. Only change I would make is swapping Putrescent Knight and Romina. Both are good bosses, but Romina stood out to me more with a more varied moveset.
They really spoiled us with this DLC. Rellana is one of the best bosses they ever created to me. Went to NG+ just to solo her. The only aspect I did not enjoy was the final boss.
Pretty much fully agree as you can coin flip 1 and 2 but for me it has to be CURSE YOU BAYLE!!!!!!!!! The added design of NPCs in boss rooms just added this new level I wasn't expecting.
What a great video and I completely agree with your overall top 6. I will say, Radhan was top 2 for me behind Messmar. Yes, his 2nd phase is a little cheap, but after beating him after 200+ tries. I never felt more on top of the world. Messmar is just unreal though. I wish he was just a TAD tougher 👏
You glossed over the #1 problem with Consort Radahn, which is that he just doesn't give you enough opportunities to counterattack him. After dodging a 9-hit combo flawlessly, you can go for a single light attack and then IMMEDIATELY get comboed to death because he can cancel his downtime for so many of his moves. Once you've mastered his moves, the fight just becomes boring because you're basically just waiting around for one of his openings while having to dodge everything perfectly.
Rolling *into* him typically does the trick. If you want big hits with anything greatsword sized or larger then yes, you're looking for the gap at the end of his attack strings - but if you're using smaller and lighter weapons like a straight sword or dagger you can actually slip an attack between dodges and make yourself look really cool in the process. Square off is a menace for getting meaty hits. Lord help any colossal weapon users.
I would have the same complaint with Rellana. Playing a Strength/Faith but not using BIG BONK weapons which stagger bosses in 2 hits, I have to say it was tough. Usually bosses who don't "flinch" when getting hit by bigger weapons have reasonnable openings to reward you for dodging well, with Radhan I could only tickle him with a light attack, knowing full well most of my buffes would be out by the next opening and his poise completely refiled.
@@Hibbzon I agree, I had to switch my STR/INT builds with two big magic swords to DEX/INT with Moonveil, and then it was fun. It's not an excuse, but it's just really difficult to balance a boss around so many possible builds.
@@romilrh I agree but they managed to do it with other bosses in Elden Ring (Godfrey, Radagon, Mohg, Messmer, Scadutree Avatar, etc.), it felt a bit like they made some design mistakes for Rellana but mostly Radhan in phase 2 where it really felt unfair and a chore to fight him (very low reward for the high risk of dodging his combos perfectly).
I agree with nearly all of this, I have issues with the dancing lion hit box, as well as camera issues with Bayle (hes’s still top 5, no doubt.). If fromsoft fixed someone of these issues, people would no doubt stop raging about the bosses being too hard. My top 5 Messmer Bayle Midra-not mid Rellana Scadutree avatar fight feels similar to Rykard, who I LOVE. Amazing video, I love the community this channel has brought together for Elden Ring.
For me, Rellana's fight was the best, I'm sad that she didn't have any quotes or cutscene, she deserved it. As for the others, I agree with the list. Messmer, Bayle e Midra. And of course, fifth, CURSE YOU RADAHN! And the others.
I am surprised to see such a well thought tier list Fextralife pull out, I agree with most of it, except on the music side of things, dancing lion and scadutree avatar have S tier soundtracks. I can also see you are quite competent at fighting these bosses, It's not something to take for granted. You described the Radahn fight perfectly, once it clicks and you are dodging everything it feels like fighting in heaven, but when it doesn't happen it's a pain.
My problems with consort radahn fight, isnt the damage or hitboxes, IS the fact that I cant see shit on the Second phase, I cant read his attacks If i cant see whats happening on the screen
You absolutely nailed the top 3. Midra, Bayle and Messmer are the most fun I had in the whole DLC. All of them also had great areas that slowly prepared you for the fight. Amazing bosses for sure.
I feel so fucking validated. My top three fav bosses of the dlc are these exact top three in that order. Genuinely amazing bosses, they don’t feel absurdly cheap but they’ll punish stupidity, their respective atmospheres are fucking amazing, and their individual lore is great as well.
My top 5 Bosses in Base game/DLC: 1). Godfrey, First Elden Lord 2). Messmer 3). Rellana 4). Bayle 5). Midra, Lord of Frenzy FS should have made a questline or some sort of Cutscene when encountering Rellana. She is such a cool boss. She has, in my opinion, the best weapon in the Game... Her Twin Blades are easily OP, in certain situations. Her Twin Moons are good, but not as good as her blades. Also, Messmer should have been the Final/Main Boss of the game. Messmer is highlighted in the trailer... Messmer is in the Collector's Edition. Radahn is nowhere mentioned in the trailer so I am a little confused on why FS made him the Final Boss.

If anyone needs help. Commander Giaus is real weak to holy damage. I used the the Halo Scythe ash of war and it took about 5 trys. Level 160 at 10 Scadu Tree.
Paradoxically rolling *into* his charge, directly into the boar's hitbox, completely no-sells his charge, rather than trying to get to the side, which gets you hit. It's such a strange quirk of that attack but when you know it everything else becomes very manageable. I dare say his powered up gravity charges are even easier to dodge in his second phase simply because the boar zooms through you no matter what direction you dodge.

Great list. Really appreciate how you clearly indicate individual factor rankings. Right now my list is almost identical to yours, though I would probably swap Metyr & the Tree Avatar, and swap Rellana & Consort Radahn.
Great tier list. Definitely spot on with the Radahn, Midra, Bayle, and Messmer fights. Took my 95 attempts at soloing Radahn and it felt like such a pain no hitting his first phase and getting clobbered throughout the second. Bayle was an absolute spectacle and I can't wait to do it for a 3rd time. Messemer is one of the most enjoyable along with Rellana, and I am almost no hitting it. I keep getting hit once though lol. Amazing fights for most of these bosses.

I just wished Bayle had a deeper more demonic roar. He just does the standard dragon roar, which is pretty lame. Radahn was spoiled for me but after hearing my cousin who is a FromSoft veteran, struggle with him the first time. I knew i was in for a asskicking, but surprisingly enough it didnt piss me off getting murked in his second phase. Actually the first major boss i actually started memorizing their attacks to the point i could if didnt get smacked by his triple hit attack could go most no hit until his second phase. Messmer is my favorite by far, the second and most framerate breaking boss fight if had in Elden Ring😂 love his character so much!

Radahn and Mogh were also dead yet we got this BS boss, I'm so tired of this "soul killed" talk. Eclipse failed because Radahn held back stars, after Radahn is defeated and stars start to move eclipse can be done again and it would work, it was just lazy reskin instead of an new, original boss.
@@Just_B0red Destined Death are absolute. A good writer won't retcon their own story. Mohg and Radahn soul can still be revive. Godwynn cannot, but they couldn've use his body with Radahn soul. Instead they took Mohg body instead of Godwynn's for some reason.
@@karaage_ramen What do you mean retcon, Miquella tried to use Eclipse to Bring Godwyn back, Eclipse only failed because Radahn (who is dead btw) was holding back the stars, with Radahn dead Eclipse wouldn't fail. Even in base game there was a way to revive people (Death Mask Helm in DLC also says that you can revive people using Messmers Flame) so reviving was never a retcon.
I swear after learning his move Gaius is actually fun boss to fight, I mean his charge still deal too much damage but finding attack in his move is very rewarding
Literally this! Was looking for a single comment of someone respecting Gaius, easily up there as one of the best and most fun fights, also cool tip, using the deflect tear and deflecting his charge attack is really consistent and fun
I personally have Radahn as my #2 behind Messmer, and was surprised to learn that he was so controversial. I enjoyed him more than all of the fights in the base game, including Malenia, and definitely a LOT more than the original final boss Elden Beast. All of his moves are very flashy, and many have tight timings to dodge them, but I also thought that all of the attacks were telegraphed pretty well with both visual and audio cues; it just takes a bunch of learning to get used to those telegraphs and figure out how to dodge everything. It was incredibly satisfying to learn all of the patterns and watch myself get later and later into the fight with consistency. Once I figured out the telegraphs, the boss didn't feel "cheap" to me at all. I thought it was perfectly fair and consistently doable with practice, just hard, and requiring many attempts to learn. I wouldn't really consider something to be "cheap" unless it's random, poorly telegraphed, and un-reactable, but I get that people might have different opinions on that, and may not like having to sink in 100 attempts just to learn all of the boss patterns, or having to change up their equipment in order to accommodate the boss. None of the attacks were even close to one-shots with 50 vigor and light armor, but I also swapped to three defensive talismans, which made the boss a lot more forgiving and easier to learn. I can definitely empathize with FPS issues, and I do think that a couple of the map-wide effects in phase 2 are a bit too much, but these didn't really sour my experience at all thankfully. I'm not upset if people don't like the boss, since it's a game and they can like or dislike whatever they prefer, but personally I had a ton of fun with Radahn, even though he took me the longest to beat by far. Perfectly valid to enjoy different things.
Scadutree avatar would be so much cooler if it had actual phase transitions instead of just hopping out of the sludge again and again. I personally love Radahn, but both the times I beat him, I had super good RNG. I don't think he's harder than Malenia tho. His biggest issue was that if you got hit once, (clone attacks are the bane of my existence) you are staggerlocked to death which makes it super cheap. I also think Midra is a tad bit too easy. If he had another phase he would absolutely be my no 1, but for now that position lies with BAYLE. Just a perfect fight, fun to learn and master. Messmer is a close second
My top 5 Bosses 1 - Divine Beast Dancing Lion (So Unique) 2 - Bayle the Dread (CURSE YOU BAYLE!!!) 3 - Metyr, Mother of Fingers (Love the atmosphere) 4 - Promised Consort Radahn (First phase: 10/10, Second phase: To Much 🔦) 5 - Messmer the Impaler ( Love the Lore, Music and design, but, i expected more from the fight )
Hot take. Commander Gaius is a great boss. Avoid the BS charge with light rolls and the moveset is top tier. Extremely fun attacks to avoid and time to get hits in after every attack
One additional aspect I liked about Putrescent knight was also that he was weak to holy which was a nice change from most endgame bosses being 50-80% holy resistant. A nice bit of variation to make use of the huge amount of holy damage weapons and incantations that otherwise seldom find use outside PVP
Radahn music is one of the best soundtracks I ever heard, the design of the boss is also GOD tier. It's so unfortunate the boss is loaded with BS in the second phase. If was not for the huge amount of BS, it was second place for me (Bayle for me is the best boss fight of all fromsoftware games).
Midra’s area (abyssal woods) is not exploited enough and I think his moveset could be improved. The ost is cool, the design also, but the fight is not UNIQUE enough. Could be better
Bayle’s fight is one of those rare Soulsborne fights where I just can’t stop going “whoaaaa” throughout the fight. Ludwig the Accursed was another fight, where I felt privileged just to be able to take part in such an artistic and amazing encounter.
Just ranking the major bosses, this would be my opinion 12. Gaius 11. Golden Hippo 10. Metyr 9. Radahn 8. Scadutree Avatar 7. Putrescent Knight 6. Dancing Lion 5. Romina, Saint of the Bud 4. Bayle The Dread 3. Midra, Lord of Frenzy 2. Rellana, Twin Moon Knight 1. Messmer, The Impaler Probably not too unqiue of a list and if we were ranking based on lore it'd be slightly different Radahn's as low as he is because of phase 2, that shit can go to hell, took me 4 days and over 100 attempts because of phase 2, had to resort to light rolling.
I love Midra Boss fight so much , the build up for this boss literally chills my spine , a man how endure the pain and torture for love and in the end he throw all way and embrace de madness , and you see in his move how free he feels , he spread his arms and crazyness and glory cause nothing else matters anymore, is perfect
I love the way the Snake head's Messmer attacks you with melt away. What a masterclass in special effect design. The only thing I could think to improve on would be some sort of physical interaction between the player and the melting snake form. Like if you swipe your sword your should see it cut a swath through the melting snake.
My top 3 would be Radahn Rellana Messmer However that rank is only based on how fun it is to learn, fight and eventually kill a boss. I dont really take graphics or lore into account. I also seem to be the only one in the world who didn't care much for bayle. Sure the fight definitely looked really cool and all but was it a fun fight? I dont think so. It was the only major boss of the dlc I somehow managed to kill first try. Definitely had alot more trouble with the other dragon before him. Probably need to give him another go I guess
I don't like Messmer as a boss, but Rellana is amazing. When I fought her with the backhand blades, it really felt like a dance of swords. Well done, FromSoft.
I unironically think most people who absolutely hate Radahn either have never played any of the other souls games to know what a true dogwater boss is, or refuse to try anything differently. He is not perfect and as the video says he has plenty of annoying things, but he is far too overhated.
i agree completely, i think most of the people are newbies who played elden ring only which is one of the easier souls games, finally got a taste of difficulty, and couldnt hack it, so are now raging, yes i think second phase has a few issues, but its top 5 easily
Ill be honest, as a souls vet, i dont personally hate radahn for the difficulty, even thou it is BS how much FPS drop the light attack is, its just anti climatic for him to be the final boss... He got new moveset cool but if the NPC were saying Radahn soul in Mohg body, you do technically expect the boss to be some sort of chimera or the first phase mainly using blood and gravity magic or something, but its 2 gravity magic and 1 blood magic... Also its technically the last DLC for elden ring, how could people not feel disappointed to fight the same guy we fight before but as the final boss... Like heck radahn festival was alreadya perfect ending for him, not saying you cant bring him back, but dont make him the final boss or something Imo, the boss is meh, the first phase is hella fun, second face hard for all the wrong reason which is flash banging me the whole fight. Lorewise, it went to interesting world conflict how every demigod use to have their own problem to deal with is now, "its all part of miquella plan" really meh I will say, radahn is a decent boss but a meh final boss, wouldnt compare him to gael, orphan, or even manus
Agree on everything about Radahn, finally a video that just doesn't rank him low and says "too hard and unfair" but actually explains what the boss does good and what does wrong while also having a fair placement for it because of the problems
Radahn is an awful boss, its a not fun allowed boss, that to me drops it almost to to spot 10, I don't care if its an spectacle, its frustrating to learn to fight, it felt like a chore, and no I didn't want to change my whole build to a shield or somethign along those lines. if he was supposed to be this fast and flashy I wished it did less damage so that you can atleast try and learn the moveset without being killed by 5 string combos that 2 shot you while being hell of confusing to dodge. Also good luck if you had a build that was relying on cast time, becuase he gives you no time to without being slapped in the face atleast once per cast. After beating him I went and loaded a save I had on blodborne and Orphan of kos felt less opressive that this ass****, he had lenghtier openings in a game which the player character can basically light roll for free and the movesets are way quicker.
💯... Radahn should not have been the Main/Final Boss... His Hitboxes are SICK and he was, for me, a very CHEAP and overly hard designed Boss, just for the sake of being difficult... FS made a very poor choice for a Final/Main Boss... Messmer or even Rellana would have been better choices as the Final/Main Boss fight.

It’s the dlc of fromsoft biggest game, of course it’s gonna be crazy hard, if it was just another Messmer that took most people 6-7 tries it would be disappointing, difficulty is what makes these games fun for so many of us and 80% of you guys rob yourself of that feeling by cheesing and summoning your way through

Messmer so far is my favorite boss fight. I’m on NG+6 and Messmer was difficult but so much fun to learn the move set and that combo is pretty cool. I haven’t fought bayle yet and now I’m stuck on the final boss😢. But seriously Messmer was my favorite boss fight
The dancing lion made me feel like i was being chased around by an overly happy, and overly drunken chinese dragon who just discovered it could also use elemental magic, much to its drunken delight.

Its Bayle and Midra for me, its not only about the bosses themselves but the places when you go to them build up the tension. For example where you go up in the mountains, weather becomes worse and you start to get the feeling that the storm is incoming.

Messmer is in that Isshin, Gael, Ludwig level. He’s THAT special of a boss.
Bayle too imo is up there. Has better presentation that all of these, better build up. Moveset is clean and intuitive. Although, people usually prefer human build boss duels, so Bayle may be not for eveyone. But Bayle is the best dragon fight we got, no doubt. I'd also add Midra to that list of bosses, imo has very great build up through horror woods, then manse is very atmospheric, moveset is clean, design is a banger and has one of the most metal cutscenes ever. Although much simpler than other Elden Ring bosses, imo Midra is not simpler than let's say Ludwig, moveset wise
Imo he has a bit too little health, but I also fought him pretty late.
I feel like he could’ve been but needed more health and do less damage to make it an endurance test rather than nuke him

Saying the music for scadutree avatar being forgettable is such a weird take for me, getting to the third stage and the music switches to such a sad theme making it almost sad when the reality kicks in that you’re killing a flower and its just clinging to life after trying to protect something 😂

I really enjoy the section playing when it comes back to life for its second phase, the overall sountrack matches the "dark" tone of the place and the boss's design well.
Midra was my personal favorite. The fight was awesome. I just wished there was more lore to him, like a mention of Shabriri or the 3 fingers.
Wouldn't it be extra cool if the fight had a different scenario if you go into Midra while under the Frenzied Flame Influence? Missed opportunity there.

Bayle was the highlight of the DLC for me. The climb towards him, fighting drakes on the way, Igon, and then Bayle himself - hurt, furious and deadly. Narrative-wise, gameplay-wise, difficulty-wise, a perfect fight.
Yeah man, that climb with the red lightning everywhere getting more intense with each spiritspring jump. Higher and higher, seeing dragon corpses everywhere and fighting that appetizer dragon before moving higher and higher... the buildup was insane.
Another great vid! I didn't know the Scadutree Avatar had three healthbars. I thought it kept respawning because of the stumps...so every attempt I was running around the whole arena baiting the Avatar to destroy all the stumps. Ah, good fun.

That's a geniunely cool idea for a boss though, having it destroy its own arena to weaken itself. Admittedly, it could very easily become frustrating, but I'd love to see something like that being pulled off by Fromsoft in their next game.

Radahn doing a Lions Claw attack is easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen in this game and the music in phase 1 is amazing, however I really hate phase 2 of this fight. Messmer and Rellana are easily my favorite DLC bosses tho

@@firstorderblade4432 Meh, Messmer, Rellana, Bayle, Scadutree Avatar and Dancing Lion are better in my opinion. It somewhat matches the tone of the fight but it's not the best in the DLC and clearly not the best in the game (Radagon's theme is way better for a final god fight).
Rellana, Midra, Messmer and Bayle are some of my favorite From Soft bosses of all time now. Incredible.

The designs of all the top 3 bosses are absolutely phenomenal; I personally especially like Midra.
Radahn was a bit of a disappointment for me. The fight felt really cheap, and in the end I don't even know how I defeated him, I only remember that I was simply glad that it was over---unlike the majority of the other bosses, where learning their movesets and how to dodge them was actually fun.
I broke down and summoned someone who was using a fingerprint shield tank build.

The fight is one of the most fun fights in the series when you learn it but i can see how people dont find it fun at first it can get tricky learning how to dodge some moves

@@Pofr557 Meh, I wouldn't say that, felt very tedious to the point where I was zoning out, playing using pure muscle memory and out of boredom because of how cheap the fight felt. When I was sad that it was over for other well designed bosses (Messmer, Scadutree avatar, Midra, Dancing Lion), I was just happy not to have to do this shit again with Radhan.

Midra is hands down the best boss in the DLC to me, S-ranks across the board. Messmer was probably number 2 and Bayle third only for Gigachad Igon making the fight more fun.

I agree, Midra felt like a very classic FromSoft fight, perfectly balanced for 1v1.
My favorite is Rellana mostly because those intimate sword dance bosses like Maria, Gael, and Malenia are my preferred playstyle. I like fast, graceful swordplay and Rellana delivers. Plus, her gear was perfect for my aesthetic, though as said in the video I wish there was more lore.
Then also as a dragon fan Bayle is right at number two.
Didn't care for Radahn as much. I much preferred his base game form and since I knew we were fighting Miquella I was hoping for a rematch with Malenia but oh well
This tierlist almost perfectly reflects my views on these bosses. Only change I would make is swapping Putrescent Knight and Romina. Both are good bosses, but Romina stood out to me more with a more varied moveset.
They really spoiled us with this DLC. Rellana is one of the best bosses they ever created to me. Went to NG+ just to solo her. The only aspect I did not enjoy was the final boss.

Pretty much fully agree as you can coin flip 1 and 2 but for me it has to be CURSE YOU BAYLE!!!!!!!!! The added design of NPCs in boss rooms just added this new level I wasn't expecting.
You know it’s a good DLC when even the tenth best boss is a banger. I might put Radahn slightly higher except I wouldn’t know which to bring down.
Bayle has a couple cheap moves so radahn is 3 for me, bayle 4 midra 2 and messmer still 1.

What a great video and I completely agree with your overall top 6. I will say, Radhan was top 2 for me behind Messmar. Yes, his 2nd phase is a little cheap, but after beating him after 200+ tries. I never felt more on top of the world. Messmar is just unreal though. I wish he was just a TAD tougher 👏

You just named 2 characters who appear in a video game together. Its nothing like Radhan and Miquella fight lol
You glossed over the #1 problem with Consort Radahn, which is that he just doesn't give you enough opportunities to counterattack him. After dodging a 9-hit combo flawlessly, you can go for a single light attack and then IMMEDIATELY get comboed to death because he can cancel his downtime for so many of his moves. Once you've mastered his moves, the fight just becomes boring because you're basically just waiting around for one of his openings while having to dodge everything perfectly.
Rolling *into* him typically does the trick. If you want big hits with anything greatsword sized or larger then yes, you're looking for the gap at the end of his attack strings - but if you're using smaller and lighter weapons like a straight sword or dagger you can actually slip an attack between dodges and make yourself look really cool in the process. Square off is a menace for getting meaty hits. Lord help any colossal weapon users.
I would have the same complaint with Rellana. Playing a Strength/Faith but not using BIG BONK weapons which stagger bosses in 2 hits, I have to say it was tough. Usually bosses who don't "flinch" when getting hit by bigger weapons have reasonnable openings to reward you for dodging well, with Radhan I could only tickle him with a light attack, knowing full well most of my buffes would be out by the next opening and his poise completely refiled.
@@Hibbzon I agree, I had to switch my STR/INT builds with two big magic swords to DEX/INT with Moonveil, and then it was fun. It's not an excuse, but it's just really difficult to balance a boss around so many possible builds.
@@romilrh I agree but they managed to do it with other bosses in Elden Ring (Godfrey, Radagon, Mohg, Messmer, Scadutree Avatar, etc.), it felt a bit like they made some design mistakes for Rellana but mostly Radhan in phase 2 where it really felt unfair and a chore to fight him (very low reward for the high risk of dodging his combos perfectly).

I agree with nearly all of this, I have issues with the dancing lion hit box, as well as camera issues with Bayle (hes’s still top 5, no doubt.). If fromsoft fixed someone of these issues, people would no doubt stop raging about the bosses being too hard.

For me, Rellana's fight was the best, I'm sad that she didn't have any quotes or cutscene, she deserved it.

I am surprised to see such a well thought tier list Fextralife pull out, I agree with most of it, except on the music side of things, dancing lion and scadutree avatar have S tier soundtracks. I can also see you are quite competent at fighting these bosses, It's not something to take for granted.
You described the Radahn fight perfectly, once it clicks and you are dodging everything it feels like fighting in heaven, but when it doesn't happen it's a pain.
My problems with consort radahn fight, isnt the damage or hitboxes, IS the fact that I cant see shit on the Second phase, I cant read his attacks If i cant see whats happening on the screen

You absolutely nailed the top 3. Midra, Bayle and Messmer are the most fun I had in the whole DLC. All of them also had great areas that slowly prepared you for the fight. Amazing bosses for sure.

I feel so fucking validated. My top three fav bosses of the dlc are these exact top three in that order. Genuinely amazing bosses, they don’t feel absurdly cheap but they’ll punish stupidity, their respective atmospheres are fucking amazing, and their individual lore is great as well.
My top 5 Bosses in Base game/DLC:
1). Godfrey, First Elden Lord
2). Messmer
3). Rellana
4). Bayle
5). Midra, Lord of Frenzy
FS should have made a questline or some sort of Cutscene when encountering Rellana. She is such a cool boss. She has, in my opinion, the best weapon in the Game... Her Twin Blades are easily OP, in certain situations. Her Twin Moons are good, but not as good as her blades. Also, Messmer should have been the Final/Main Boss of the game. Messmer is highlighted in the trailer... Messmer is in the Collector's Edition. Radahn is nowhere mentioned in the trailer so I am a little confused on why FS made him the Final Boss.

If anyone needs help. Commander Giaus is real weak to holy damage. I used the the Halo Scythe ash of war and it took about 5 trys. Level 160 at 10 Scadu Tree.
Paradoxically rolling *into* his charge, directly into the boar's hitbox, completely no-sells his charge, rather than trying to get to the side, which gets you hit. It's such a strange quirk of that attack but when you know it everything else becomes very manageable. I dare say his powered up gravity charges are even easier to dodge in his second phase simply because the boar zooms through you no matter what direction you dodge.

Man, Scadutree Avatar had one of my favorite themes in the DLC. Sad Fex didn't like it.
Great tier list. Definitely spot on with the Radahn, Midra, Bayle, and Messmer fights. Took my 95 attempts at soloing Radahn and it felt like such a pain no hitting his first phase and getting clobbered throughout the second. Bayle was an absolute spectacle and I can't wait to do it for a 3rd time. Messemer is one of the most enjoyable along with Rellana, and I am almost no hitting it. I keep getting hit once though lol. Amazing fights for most of these bosses.

I just wished Bayle had a deeper more demonic roar. He just does the standard dragon roar, which is pretty lame.
Radahn was spoiled for me but after hearing my cousin who is a FromSoft veteran, struggle with him the first time. I knew i was in for a asskicking, but surprisingly enough it didnt piss me off getting murked in his second phase. Actually the first major boss i actually started memorizing their attacks to the point i could if didnt get smacked by his triple hit attack could go most no hit until his second phase.
Messmer is my favorite by far, the second and most framerate breaking boss fight if had in Elden Ring😂 love his character so much!

Eclipse failed because Radahn held back stars, after Radahn is defeated and stars start to move eclipse can be done again and it would work, it was just lazy reskin instead of an new, original boss.
@@Just_B0red Destined Death are absolute. A good writer won't retcon their own story. Mohg and Radahn soul can still be revive. Godwynn cannot, but they couldn've use his body with Radahn soul. Instead they took Mohg body instead of Godwynn's for some reason.
@@karaage_ramen What do you mean retcon, Miquella tried to use Eclipse to Bring Godwyn back, Eclipse only failed because Radahn (who is dead btw) was holding back the stars, with Radahn dead Eclipse wouldn't fail. Even in base game there was a way to revive people (Death Mask Helm in DLC also says that you can revive people using Messmers Flame) so reviving was never a retcon.

Literally this! Was looking for a single comment of someone respecting Gaius, easily up there as one of the best and most fun fights, also cool tip, using the deflect tear and deflecting his charge attack is really consistent and fun
I personally have Radahn as my #2 behind Messmer, and was surprised to learn that he was so controversial. I enjoyed him more than all of the fights in the base game, including Malenia, and definitely a LOT more than the original final boss Elden Beast. All of his moves are very flashy, and many have tight timings to dodge them, but I also thought that all of the attacks were telegraphed pretty well with both visual and audio cues; it just takes a bunch of learning to get used to those telegraphs and figure out how to dodge everything. It was incredibly satisfying to learn all of the patterns and watch myself get later and later into the fight with consistency. Once I figured out the telegraphs, the boss didn't feel "cheap" to me at all. I thought it was perfectly fair and consistently doable with practice, just hard, and requiring many attempts to learn. I wouldn't really consider something to be "cheap" unless it's random, poorly telegraphed, and un-reactable, but I get that people might have different opinions on that, and may not like having to sink in 100 attempts just to learn all of the boss patterns, or having to change up their equipment in order to accommodate the boss. None of the attacks were even close to one-shots with 50 vigor and light armor, but I also swapped to three defensive talismans, which made the boss a lot more forgiving and easier to learn.
I can definitely empathize with FPS issues, and I do think that a couple of the map-wide effects in phase 2 are a bit too much, but these didn't really sour my experience at all thankfully.
I'm not upset if people don't like the boss, since it's a game and they can like or dislike whatever they prefer, but personally I had a ton of fun with Radahn, even though he took me the longest to beat by far. Perfectly valid to enjoy different things.

Scadutree avatar would be so much cooler if it had actual phase transitions instead of just hopping out of the sludge again and again.
I personally love Radahn, but both the times I beat him, I had super good RNG. I don't think he's harder than Malenia tho. His biggest issue was that if you got hit once, (clone attacks are the bane of my existence) you are staggerlocked to death which makes it super cheap.
I also think Midra is a tad bit too easy. If he had another phase he would absolutely be my no 1, but for now that position lies with BAYLE. Just a perfect fight, fun to learn and master. Messmer is a close second

Hot take. Commander Gaius is a great boss. Avoid the BS charge with light rolls and the moveset is top tier. Extremely fun attacks to avoid and time to get hits in after every attack
I really enjoyed using Deflect tear with the meteor Great Sword to fight him. Was perfect for dealing with the charge.
One additional aspect I liked about Putrescent knight was also that he was weak to holy which was a nice change from most endgame bosses being 50-80% holy resistant. A nice bit of variation to make use of the huge amount of holy damage weapons and incantations that otherwise seldom find use outside PVP
Radahn music is one of the best soundtracks I ever heard, the design of the boss is also GOD tier.
It's so unfortunate the boss is loaded with BS in the second phase. If was not for the huge amount of BS, it was second place for me (Bayle for me is the best boss fight of all fromsoftware games).
There's not a huge amount of BS though. Almost all of his moveset can be perfectly dodged, even on medium roll.

Midra’s area (abyssal woods) is not exploited enough and I think his moveset could be improved. The ost is cool, the design also, but the fight is not UNIQUE enough. Could be better
Bayle’s fight is one of those rare Soulsborne fights where I just can’t stop going “whoaaaa” throughout the fight. Ludwig the Accursed was another fight, where I felt privileged just to be able to take part in such an artistic and amazing encounter.

Radahn's as low as he is because of phase 2, that shit can go to hell, took me 4 days and over 100 attempts because of phase 2, had to resort to light rolling.
I don't like Matyr boss fight, but that ost man! In that underwater looking arena, the ost feels mesmerizing ❤

I love Midra Boss fight so much , the build up for this boss literally chills my spine , a man how endure the pain and torture for love and in the end he throw all way and embrace de madness , and you see in his move how free he feels , he spread his arms and crazyness and glory cause nothing else matters anymore, is perfect

Agreed on putrescent knight. Absolutely loved every second of it I was very surprised people had such issue with it
Radhan ruined the whole DLC, I have beaten him but it was such a ludicrously outrageous fight that could give someone PTSD 😮
I love the way the Snake head's Messmer attacks you with melt away. What a masterclass in special effect design. The only thing I could think to improve on would be some sort of physical interaction between the player and the melting snake form. Like if you swipe your sword your should see it cut a swath through the melting snake.

However that rank is only based on how fun it is to learn, fight and eventually kill a boss. I dont really take graphics or lore into account.
I also seem to be the only one in the world who didn't care much for bayle. Sure the fight definitely looked really cool and all but was it a fun fight? I dont think so. It was the only major boss of the dlc I somehow managed to kill first try. Definitely had alot more trouble with the other dragon before him. Probably need to give him another go I guess
I don't like Messmer as a boss, but Rellana is amazing. When I fought her with the backhand blades, it really felt like a dance of swords. Well done, FromSoft.
Scadutree avatars music is forgettable...really? Messmer felt so perfect after mastering his moveset I almost nohit him.

Scadutree Avatar's theme is better than any boss theme from DS3, other than Vordt maybe. I don't get why people are downplaying that cool boss so much

I unironically think most people who absolutely hate Radahn either have never played any of the other souls games to know what a true dogwater boss is, or refuse to try anything differently. He is not perfect and as the video says he has plenty of annoying things, but he is far too overhated.
i agree completely, i think most of the people are newbies who played elden ring only which is one of the easier souls games, finally got a taste of difficulty, and couldnt hack it, so are now raging, yes i think second phase has a few issues, but its top 5 easily
Ill be honest, as a souls vet, i dont personally hate radahn for the difficulty, even thou it is BS how much FPS drop the light attack is, its just anti climatic for him to be the final boss... He got new moveset cool but if the NPC were saying Radahn soul in Mohg body, you do technically expect the boss to be some sort of chimera or the first phase mainly using blood and gravity magic or something, but its 2 gravity magic and 1 blood magic...
Also its technically the last DLC for elden ring, how could people not feel disappointed to fight the same guy we fight before but as the final boss... Like heck radahn festival was alreadya perfect ending for him, not saying you cant bring him back, but dont make him the final boss or something
Imo, the boss is meh, the first phase is hella fun, second face hard for all the wrong reason which is flash banging me the whole fight. Lorewise, it went to interesting world conflict how every demigod use to have their own problem to deal with is now, "its all part of miquella plan" really meh
I will say, radahn is a decent boss but a meh final boss, wouldnt compare him to gael, orphan, or even manus

Agree on everything about Radahn, finally a video that just doesn't rank him low and says "too hard and unfair" but actually explains what the boss does good and what does wrong while also having a fair placement for it because of the problems
Radahn is an awful boss, its a not fun allowed boss, that to me drops it almost to to spot 10, I don't care if its an spectacle, its frustrating to learn to fight, it felt like a chore, and no I didn't want to change my whole build to a shield or somethign along those lines. if he was supposed to be this fast and flashy I wished it did less damage so that you can atleast try and learn the moveset without being killed by 5 string combos that 2 shot you while being hell of confusing to dodge. Also good luck if you had a build that was relying on cast time, becuase he gives you no time to without being slapped in the face atleast once per cast.
After beating him I went and loaded a save I had on blodborne and Orphan of kos felt less opressive that this ass****, he had lenghtier openings in a game which the player character can basically light roll for free and the movesets are way quicker.
Just summon Taylew and call it a day
💯... Radahn should not have been the Main/Final Boss... His Hitboxes are SICK and he was, for me, a very CHEAP and overly hard designed Boss, just for the sake of being difficult... FS made a very poor choice for a Final/Main Boss... Messmer or even Rellana would have been better choices as the Final/Main Boss fight.

It’s the dlc of fromsoft biggest game, of course it’s gonna be crazy hard, if it was just another Messmer that took most people 6-7 tries it would be disappointing, difficulty is what makes these games fun for so many of us and 80% of you guys rob yourself of that feeling by cheesing and summoning your way through
Not everybody has all the free time in their life to spend hours or days to perfect a bosses moveset . You can enjoy fs games and still be annoyed by a shitty boss . @@Ar17778
