- Each winter, various railroads throughout New Jersey operate a toys for tots train, which runs between towns to collect donated toys for children in need. This year’s winter is no different, with NYS&W, MNJ, D&D, D&R and BRW all running toys for tots trains. On November 25th, 2019, the NYS&W/MNJ consist was dropped in NJ Transit’s Dover Yard and assembled in preparation for the following day, when Morristown and Erie (M&E), a small shortline that runs both passenger and freight trains in Northern New Jersey, would pick up the train and take it to NYS&Ws Saddle Brook Yard. In this video, we watch as M&E MX-26 tows the train east through Newark Broad Street Station with 53-year-old SW1500 #20 in charge. Behind #20 is an old ex-Conrail caboose, which will be used as a shoving platform once the train gets onto the Hoboken Division. The toys for tots train consists of two vintage private cars (Hickory Creek and NYC #43) followed by three boxcars to store the toys. Video taken on Tuesday, November 26th, 2019, at 11:47 AM. Thanks for watching!
