Make Ferrite Toroidal Transformer for Inverter

  • Today I will show you how to calculate and rewind the Ferrite toroidal transformer for inverter .
    This transformer is for my amplifier project, Input 12V , output + -45V , + -15V and 5V low noise for bluetoooth module.
    All my projects are free, I design them on EAGLE 6.0. I uploaded it to Google drive. You need to use a web browser to download the file and open the file with winrar software (extract) on the PC. Open schematic file (.SCH) and PCB file (.BRD) with EAGLE software.

    Full description, congratulations, but to have a better performance, I recommend distributing the primary and secondary windings over the entire circumference of the toroid.

      Can you tell how to calculate how much meter of magnet wire required as we need to cut the wire we need to know how much exact meter of wire required, and how to calculate the gauge or thickness of the copper wire ?
      What is the size of magnet wire have you used ?

    I tested the low frequency inverter that I designed but the out put is giving me 106v and when I connect filter capacitor of 5uf the out put dropped to 83v without feedback and when I connect the feedback the out put go up to 85v and the the feedback voltage is 2v minimum. What could be the issue while the out put can't go up to 200v. I used spwm module.

    My output voltage is quite low on hand wound toroid transformer. I did
    match the frequency to source AC. What is efficiency "percentage
    difference" of primary not wound exactly over secondary, just wound
    separate on core? It just looks visually better with 2 different colors
    insulation.,at separate placements on core.

    Green cores are in most cases cores for filters or emi cancelation when winding to wires on same core. For transformer you need to use core with low AL so core wont saturate fast. You choose bmax from the space while this param shall be take from core application note and depends from f.

    But what about the winding cross section, determined by load current? I noted you use multiple wires for each winding because of the frequency and skin depth issues but are you just using total cross section for each winding according to how you would do it for DC?

    hi, i made a similar transformer except the core was gray color instead of green and it works but the voltage collapses when i pun a load from 45V it goes to 12V with 6ohm load.
    it's the transformer fault or the driver circuit? please help!!

    the primary and secondary windings should cover the entire core and overlap each other, with the appropriate tape between the windings. Otherwise, poor magnetic coupling between the windings will result.

      You would have to use a DC chopper, timer, oscillator, PWM or other method to switch the source power on & off very rapidly first. The device you're referring to is a type of switch mode power supply.
      Then you can feed it through a boost converter, voltage multiplier, or even a transformer, before rectifying it once more with a diode array & smoothing it back out with a capacitor or two.

    I think the green cores are a low frequency powdered iron core, not ferrite.

      Core material is PC40. It works with high frequency.
