Will the switch wait 20 seconds before making any topology change? Will the Designated Port be elected Root Port after the 20 seconds without going into listening and learning states? in your example, last Hello BPDU received by switch B from switch A will age out (30secs). At this point switch B will consider itself the root bridge and send BPDU to switch C. Switch C will wait up to 20 seconds for Hello BPDU from root bridge (switch A) and when received, transitions the blocking port to listening, then learning and finally forwarding. Switch C sends Hello BPDU from switch A during listening state, and switch B will make the designated port its root port.
What if link AC becomes active again? Can the blocked port receive the BPDU and then reassign the root port again? How does this happen as the blocked port drops BPDU frames?
