Thank you for this information. I found the manual for my microwave and all it said was to use for bi -level cooking. But nothing about what that means to the layman. I understand the concept of bi-level, but was totally in the dark about how to use. Now no fighting over the microwave at Thanksgiving.

Thank you for doing this video. The guy installing said “just toss it”. I do like the idea you gave on reheating 2 plates. I see that as a plus. So thank you. PJ

Thank you for posting this video...
Just got a new Whirlpool microwave convection oven combo, and was confused very confused!!
I wasn't sure if the rack was meant to be used for the microwave function or for use with the convection part.
I'm glad to know I can use it with the microwave!! Because of your explanation, I won't leave it in all the time, and will ONLY use it for reheating multiple items or during the holidays... I had no idea that if the rack became unseated, it would cause arcing and possibly damage
    my microwave!!!
Thank you again, you probably saved my oven!!

The explanation is good, as far as it goes. The last two built in microwaves I have had have no turntable. They were both made by the same manufacturer, but in one, you can leave the metal rack in place as it has the ceramic clips/supports as shown in the video (ie not conductive) but in the other, you cannot leave the rack in as the rack supports are simply a "moulded" shape of the sides, so there is direct continuity. The instructions with both microwaves are quite clear - one says you can leave the rack, the other says "take it out." But with no rotating turntable, it is important to move the food about during cooking, or you will get hot and cold areas.

I have a microwave with a rack.. I do use it from time to time.. sometimes if I am storing bread and chips and stuff I use the rack to separate it to keep stuff off the counter. I have a question for you.. Mine is a GE Space Maker model JVM1642AB and on the rack it has clips.. Slowly they have been popping off one by one. The other day.. My rack was in as it should be but a fire started at one of rack holders in the back.. My guess is the clips on mine are suppose to keep the space between the rack and the wall to avoid contact to the side of the microwave. Why doesn't the one in your video have the clips? Do I HAVE to have them on mine? They are pretty hard to find.. Just thought Id ask.

I use the rack all the time for the convection part. I thought I had to take it out when it was not being used for baking or roasting. OMG We cook in our microwave. There are tons of recipes. So we do cook in the microwave. I will now leave the rack. Thanks!!

Hey Tracy, are you sure that you can use the rack with the convection setting? My whirlpool manual claims that I can't use the rack with convection. Also, what do you cook in your microwave?

@@BigBrownTruck22 Hi! Yes I have a Kitchen Aid microwave convection oven. I use the rack for baking. It is great. I haven't left it in for the microwave part, but i can see how it is safe since it is on plastic feet. I am assuming it is safe because the rack doesn't touch anything and the whole inside of the oven is metal. Microwaves have come a long way. My husband only cooks with the microwave part. He uses paper plates but there are microwave safe dishes out there too. He will use to paper plates to make scrambled eggs. he sprays one plate, added the seasonings, a little butter, then the eggs, either liquid or shell but you must scramble them before you add them to the plate, he microwaves them for 3 mins then checks if they are liquidy when you move the plate then he cooks 3 more mins. This is with a large paper plate not the medium size. He does cook a lot of things in there. We buy sleeves of frozen raw hamburger patties too. You can cook them in the microwave too. I told him to write a book but I am sure there are others who already wrote a book on cooking in the microwave. The key is to use two paper plates. I am sure with the proper microwave safe dishes you can do it too. There are TH-cam videos on baking a cake in there too. You can boil noodles in there too. We have three microwaves. All three have convection settings. I love the Alexa one it is a convection with air fryer and microwave that we can tell Alexa to cook at whatever temp for however long. You can tell is to microwave for X minutes too. She sends messages to the phone when preheating is done or the food is done. I use it all the time. The third one is GE and can broil and air fry too. I haven't tried the broil yet, but I plan to broil a steak. Our traditional oven is never used. The Kitchen Aid is large enough for everything I cook. I plan to get rid of the traditional range oven and replace it with a possibly radiant cooktop. No more ranges.

Yes, place the round tray on top of the glass turntable and then the food on top of the tray (not shown in this video). The tray will turn with the turntable.
