Where have you been all my gol;fing life, Chris? What a find your channel has been for my golfing sanity! I am a feel player (also a former tennis player& baseball player) and can sense when I hit the correct positions, making the tennis stroke or baseball swing nearly effortless. Try as I might, I have not been able to find that 'feel' while trying to hit down on the ball. I tried your method today, and I'm instantly longer with each club. Many thanks! Keep the videos coming!
Seen you describe this before and understood it - but only just really started to practice it - wish I had done this before and known the drill before - thanks so much as usual - so far it is making a massive difference -🙏🤞🏼🤞🏼
Chris another brilliant video. I really am a big fan of gaining effortlessly power. I really like your impact bag drill where your body movements to Exit Left pull the handle inside and up as you rotate and go into Extension. This is clearly a fantastic video and certainly helps my understanding of the release through impact.
It’s never a Chris Ryan video without numerous wild animals and even wilder humans on machines running helter skelter in the background. Absolutely hilarious and a great video.
Went out to my net with this swing thought, lol... so far so good. on the downswing I just try to get the handle moving up and left vs trying to smash the handle side down.
Hi Chris, a very good video. I have a question though. I don´t know which way to hit the golf club - I can play from both but struggling with the pace as well as consistency. I´m right handed but bat from the left. Doing the drill - hitting the club (or an ax) down, I would have my right hand at the top... Should I commit to the left...?
Chris, what about us who have knackered backs and don’t have that rotational movement? I have been watching Pete Cowan and his spin the arm down. I guess that is working on the same principles? Great content as usual 👍
Definitely a few things that have to be adapted when you look into physical limitations, typically the concepts would be the same but often done to a smaller degree
Trying to understand this technique. Does this mean before the grip makes an upward movement, your clubhead is actually on a swing plane to hit slightly under the ball?
Look at the Second Hand on a Clock or Watch. As the Tip of the Sweep Hand approachs "3" and the Tab - that extends past the Central Pivot - approaches "9" the Tip is going Down and the Tab is going Up. The "Pivot Point" of the Shaft is actually on the Club's Grip where your Upper Index Finger and Lower Pinky Finger meet. On a Golf Pride MCC Grip, where the bottom of the Cord ends and the top of Colored Rubber starts.
My understanding is you need to move down into a more flexed lower squat like position in your downswing. So at this low position you would hit the ground first if you failed to exit left / extend through the release phase. So Yes is the simple answer because at P6 (club last parallel / delivery position) your hands are lower than they were at address and they are also slightly further out away from your body compared to your address hand position. So now as you clear your left hip and rotate your shoulders your left shoulder moves upward and inside. The lead shoulder movement pulls the handle in that same upward and inward direction. At the same time your left leg and body moves into extension through impact. Which also increasing the upward pull on the handle. These rotational & posting up moves pulls the hands upwards and inside which throws the club head outwards to the ball. This gives you your effortless power. I find it helps to feel your also pushing your right shoulder downwards and feeling the palm of your right hand spins downwards to face the floor in a set / hinged back position prior to impact. Your left side clearing and moving up makes room for the right side throwing action. Hence why holding the club more in the fingers of your right hand helps this natural release / throwing motion.
@@digitalshapes9501thanks for the good explanation. It makes sense in many ways. It seems it will require some synching in swing sequence to bring the clubface back to plane!
Chris, if you read this, can you please answer a question for me? What advice would you give a TALL golfer who has INSANELY LONG LEGS, with SHORT TORSO/ARMS? If I'm hitting off a noticeable down-slope, it's like virtually IMPOSSIBLE for me to get under the ball.
Well done Chris. On a side note - I thought the full swing monitor did not measure attack angle. You have shown that it does, is this correct. Also as you are an ambasidor, do you have any special deals on this that you can share. Tx.
Yep the full swing kit measures everything, club and ball info so all that key data. I do work along side FullSwing but don’t have any codes U.K. afraid, well worth looking into through great piece of kit
Yes, the usually more Forward Ball Position will then have the Driver Head descend to "6 o'clock" and start Rising towards "7" like the Second Hand on a Clock.
I get that Peter, must be frustrating. I truly believe my content can help golfers, however the platform has evolved to a point where video’s only get seen with crazy or polarising titles, not ideally how I’d like it but when the service is free I guess that’s what it ends up being. I’d still like to think that I provide some value within these videos
@@ChrisRyanGolf I do end up still watching swing videos. But none have really applied to me. Yes there are nuggets in there to try out on the range None really apply to my set up. Both feet are very flared (almost Charlie chaplin) and at the moment at the top of my backswing the butt of the grip points to the ball so it’s not really a 90deg wrist hinge The thing that gets me is textbook positions. Not everyone can move the same. Textbook positions cause me discomfort

This was explained snd better still demonstrated so clearly !
Thanks appreciate that

Never seen this explanation before , thanks Chris, off to the range!
Hope it helps
Well done Chris 👏 😊
Thanks Roy
Very clear explanation, and a surprising result.
Really enjoying your vids, great explanation and demos. Thanks ⛳️👍
Thanks 🙌🙌
Well done Chris, had to watch video several times to appreciate your concept of hitting down. 😊
Wow. Just the opposite of what I'm doing. Great explanation. Thanks
Hope it helps
Best iron downswing video I’ve watched
Wow thanks 🙌
Never heard of Johnny Miller have you. LMAO. entire video is total BS.

If I do this I will probably pull the grip up too much and end up topping the ball

How is this different from early extension?
"Early Extension" commonly refers to Hip Motion.
Hip Extension happens well after Contact in a good swing.
Because he’s not early extending!
Interesting, different take for sure. A simple L to L drill kind of gives you the same feel?

Don’t hit down. Don’t hip bump.
Fed up of swing tips on TH-cam
