Board Game League is such a good addition to the channel. It makes the outcomes of the games matter more and I even got to root for someone over multiple episodes even though it didn't pan out for Sullivan.
It brought back the long term stakes we have not seen since the days of Adam's Monpoly bet. Having something like this as an ongoing thing would be fun.
Agreed on the making the games matter more. I'm not a huge Cosmic Encounter fan but I watched both this and the Patreon one just so I could see how the league played out. Obviously there's a balance between competitive vs just fun (especially if one side takes more effort than the other) but having both in some capacity is nice.
It puts me off a bit, when I miss an episode one week for whatever reason it means that I feel like I won't get the next episode if I don't watch the previous one.
I really loved board game league, but one of my favorite parts of board game club is the shifting cast. so i feel as though this is best as an additional serries, like house rules, instead of replacing the main.
I like how they're so competitive to take the fight to the yogscast, who meanwhile will probably pick 4 players from whoever happens to be in the office that day 🤣
A losing defender doesn't get compensation if they play an attack card. You get compensation when you play a negotiate card and the other player plays an attack card.
Loved board game league, plus it was great to see a new face. It must be tough being introduced into a format where everyone else are established, and Sat did great. I mean, he DID terribly, up he performed great! The variety of games felt good, plus the bonus card idea added an extra chance to help mitigate bad luck or a bad game or two. I might have been playing CE since the mid 80s. I can't help but be bugged that they use the cone wrong (ring is for defensive allies) and that they call "defensive rewards" "compensation". Old man gamer rage :D
Even if they houseruled that Lorna could play the card then (as a newbie, I get it, maybe she forgot), they most definitely shouldn’t have let allies change. It totally screwed Sat over, and he’s no less a newbie than her. Plus, Laurie, Sully, and Blair have played this numerous times - they should have known better.

Yeah the board game league was a fun idea, loved the power cards even though I feel like they were a little bit under powered/utilised. Hope to see it again
potentially unpopular opinion i wasnt a huge fan of the format I loved the idea of it however, what i liked about nrb is its large variety of personalities which i dont think really got shown this last couple months due to it being the same 6 people each week (not that there was anything wrong with the cast i actually thought it was a great cast) but maybe splitting the videos to be every second week instead of every upload slot letting people not in the league show up
Yeah agree, every other week, maybe even the first week of every month, and if they record them in one it could be a good way to feature people who aren't in that often because of travel or schedule.

Sat calling out to the sky to talk to Teri is wonderful, and it absolutely expresses how I think about Teri. And a "Teri please help me win" power card is beautiful. More of that in future please.
Definitely need to get the phases correct. Sat got absolutely robbed of an early defense win with the tubes and everyone changing alliances. That's a key part of the game , getting in early to defend potentially influences other people to defend or a good way to get a leader to commit and lose extra ships.
Doing the Alliance phase correctly where players clockwise around the table choose one by one based on their invites makes the game a lot more interesting and stops it from being such a dogpile. You're not even giving the defense a say a lot of the time which is boring ;(
I was hoping for the League they might pick and choose offensive alliances a bit more, I realise that it keeps the game moving but if you're not really playing to win what's the point. It's certainly a *valid* strategy to ensure victory at all costs, but it seems like their default response to being the offense is to let everybody piggy back along, which especially with hidden powers is a pretty crazy move
If another league happens I feel like the power cards need to be more powerful. They shouldn't completly rebound a player but they seemed a little underutilized.
I felt really bad for Sat. I know a lot of this game was based on your planet being randomly drawn, but it really felt like he got ganged up on. Especially when the game not being played correctly resulted in him getting destroyed before he even got a chance to do anything.
BGL was awesome as a whole, love that you brought back the blackboard, yall should have the player tick the points they gained on the blackboard at the end of each ep

Cosmic Encounter is so damn boring when every attacker just opens up alliances to everyone. The attacker is barely getting anything out of it most of the time, with a lot of other players only putting in one ship, while the allies are each getting one-fifth of the way to victory.
I feel you should almost always side with the defender, you shouldnt want to let other people get colonies cuz they could have a surprise "I win" card/strat and take their last colony without you being able to stop them.
Yeah, it’s a great way to get huge ties. I had one game of 4 player CE where the game ended in one round with everyone else tying for join victory and me losing. I didn’t even get a second turn.
Board game league was fun. If doing again i would prefer it is done in addition to BGC or as a patreon exclusive. Between replay month, boardgame league and now a month off there's been a real lack of new games since August (only 10)
Love the format of board game league as each game is important as well as the overall scores at the end. Favourite aspect is the power cards, they can be very helpful or, in the case of the equinox, can provide false hope!

Was a fan of board game league but would prefer it in addition to Board Game Club. If you are doing a league having people closer to the same skill level would be appreciated so it' s a closer race with some tension.
Agreed. Seems strange to have a “this is our competitive series” combined with “vastly different skill and experience levels of players.” I would also have appreciated more strict adherence to the rules of these games. At a certain point misplaying enough rules breaks the games and makes watching them harder. I understand not everyone can be a master of all the rules of every game, but this is a professional production and more care should be taken and big things like when cards can be played and how alliance forming works, shouldn’t be wrong.
Loved the Board Game League episodes! Great cast and having the same group with higher stakes leads to extra chaos and impacts the gameplay in fun ways. It's also a nice way to introduce new cast members like Sat to us quickly. I would tweak the scoring system to reward winning more and better account for team games and when ranking 2nd through 6th isn't as clear cut or bound to have lots of ties.
Love the tournament style of this. Keep it rolling especially if you change up the cast each time. I made the LOTB scepter for y’all and would LOVE to make a Board Game League trophy too. Trophies are my specialty! Just let me know 😊
I've really enjoyed BGL! It's got me invested and made me watch the full series on release. Some of the games in the league are ones I'd otherwise have been less likely to click straight away and instead just watched whenever.

I'm disappointed that the patron exclusive game is at the higher pledge level. The $6.50 tier doesn't have much going for it anymore, esp now that King's Dilemma is over, so it would have been nice to be thrown a bone on this one...
For the next board game league (yes, we want more!) please make more powerful cards, I want to see absolutelly devastating plot twists at every game, I want to see players having to play a turn blindfolded, only comunicate through miming for a full ten minutes, let the sixth place player reign chaos on the game!
I love this guys but please make sure you get the rules correct, you short-cut a lot of rules and got some completely wrong which changes the game pretty significantly. Overall, love the addition of board game league, its awesome. Always rooting for Dom and Laurie

Board Game League was a lot of fun, would love to see something like it again, whether it's another BGL, Lord of the Board, or what have you. Also looking forward the BGC and seeing some of the frequent people on the channel back
While overall I enjoyed this board game league thing, I will say it really limits to games with certain player counts, so if it continues I hope you play with different #'s of players. It would also be interesting to throw a random cooperative game like Pandemic in there where everyone wins or loses points, just for the luls.

Agree with some others that I really like the format but would rather see it once a fortnight or even once a month to allow for more rotation of the cast. I wondered if you could do teams, so that one person plays one game, then tags in a partner for the next, that way you can mix and match cast more? And then maybe the winning team could to 2 out of 3 falls House Rules to determine the champion. I also think while the power cards were a great gimmick, it'd be good to see them introduce a bit more chaos if the League comes back, I thought maybe have cards that take effect a week or two later so you don't actually know how effective it's going to be when you play it?

Honestly prefer against doing the BGL again, it feels like it limits the amount of games you can play, No completely cooperative ones for example, Logistics of course I'm sure are an issue, likewise there are certain games some players might actively hate and try to avoid..Or ones without ranked losers (a lot of the traitor revealed games). will still enjoy any games put out but pref is keeping the BGL rare
Couldn't Blair have given Sat a card to try and block Laurie? She brought it up but didn't follow through when it was obvious Sat couldn't defend without aid...
Yet to see Cosmic played properly on this channel! I know it's a silly game, but the phases and timing and order of operations are so important. Also add to the fact that no one seems to understand that the single most valuable thing in the game is an invite to the offense, and they were handing them out like candy!
I love you guys and I enjoy your channel a lot, but I did not enjoy how the League ended up influencing how people played games depending on their positions. Will probably still watch if you decide to make another one.

I think Yogscast have about 7 million subscribers on it's main channel and 30 associated channels. They're comparatively huge compared to NRB.

yes please to more board game league!! if it's not too nightmarish scheduling/logistics wise, it would be fun to have league episodes interspersed with regular board game club episodes, just so we get to see other friendly faces! thanks to the cast and crew for such a fun series!!
At 46:46 Sullivan could have just blocked Sat from getting allies with the force field. I love cosmic and wish they would paly it more often.
Definitely enjoyed board game league. Always fun when there is a title for you guys to fight for. Adds some extra spice! Series 2 soon hopefully.

Just came down here to say the same thing. Mobius Tubes can only be used during the regroup phase which is at the start of a turn before the target has been drawn from the destiny deck

Honestly prefer against doing the BGL again, it feels like it limits the amount of games you can play, No completely cooperative ones for example, Logistics of course I'm sure are an issue, likewise there are certain games some players might actively hate and try to avoid..Or ones without ranked losers (a lot of the traitor revealed games). will still enjoy any games put out but pref is keeping the BGL rare
Couldn't Blair have given Sat a card to try and block Laurie? She brought it up but didn't follow through when it was obvious Sat couldn't defend without aid...
Yet to see Cosmic played properly on this channel! I know it's a silly game, but the phases and timing and order of operations are so important. Also add to the fact that no one seems to understand that the single most valuable thing in the game is an invite to the offense, and they were handing them out like candy!

I love you guys and I enjoy your channel a lot, but I did not enjoy how the League ended up influencing how people played games depending on their positions. Will probably still watch if you decide to make another one.
