    Finally! As always great and helpful video:) One note from me: Rotax DD2 manual says that you must tight those six screws of drive gear coupling with 6-7Nm torque so I always use torque wrench to screw it properly. Is it really important and matters?

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haven’t seen many guys bust out the torque wrench after an axle swap at the track. I would say do as the manual says, unless you just want to get it done and get back on track and cut laps.

      You don't want to over tighten the coupling flange, doing so can cause it to break because of the stress it takes while out on track and you will lose drive, I have fallen foul to this once and learnt my lesson so rather follow what the manual says as it is not a cheap part to replace and time consuming if it happens on race day as I found out.

    Nvm lol just figured it out myself. I don't have 4300$ to blow on this kart right now with paying for 2 houses 😂. Did you notice a big leap from the big boy fr125 max and the dd2 cause it's only 2 hp

    Instead of hitting a screw driver in the brake disk carrier you can looses the nuts on the disk and it works the same way without disorientating that hub from the screw driver

      Great idea, the loose screws is another option, especially when it all new and perfect.

      Marcin Dylewski more interesting part is that you and me are from the same country, same chassis and engine from the same year, and... from the same seller/part supplier (as I can see in your TH-cam profile) ;) :D

    Is the dd2 it's own separate gear box or is it apart of the rotax engine? Cause I just got my hands on a rotax fr125 max and I wanna turbo it and EFI it but I was curious in the dd2 and how it works

    I suggest placing a mat underneath the kart while working on it at the track so you don’t have to clean the dirt off the grub screw.

    I am just in the process of building up a rolling chassis (new bearings, rebuild brakes, axel etc) I am new to karts but been working on cars for many years. I noticed that the disk has a large runout, its a new disk so I am assuming the carrier is at fault. Is there a max tolerance for the runout on the disk, any tricks to reduce it? as the carrier is just a collar on round tube it does allow for more tolerance compared to a car disk that is bolted to a flange. Any help gratefully received.

    Thank you in advance!!

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are very welcome. yes you can, simply drop the axle to its lowest ride hight to lift the chassis. you will also have to remove the little spacers from between the engine and chassis.

    my axle is developing some light rust on top. What should I do?

    • @LeFollon
      @LeFollon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BLITZKRIEG move the axle around and use fine sandpaper , after that WD40 .

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah thats right, otherwise use some 2 stroke oil on a rag and run it onto the axle. WD is good but it is so light. If your going to store your kart for ages, you can use bearing grease

    • @linadukstaite6046

      Or hit the kerb and you can change the axel when he looks to rusted! 😹

      measure back from the front king pin to make sure its square. if you need to adjust you can loosen the bearing cassette off so the bearing moves in the housing.

    I have to change axel for a second time this month and I’m just thinking now... is this normal or maybe it is something wrong with a kart? My son did hit the kerb and it is just ridiculous how fast it brakes...

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lina Dukstaite maybe change to a medium or hard axle for more longevity. And ask nicely to your son to not attack the curbs as hard.

    • @linadukstaite6046
      @linadukstaite6046 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you think if I use stiffeners, would be it any help? And what tire pressure would you advice: we have a very cold track and also very wet. Basically when we have a training session the temperature can change 3 degrees from the morning to the evening. I know hitting a kerb is out of question, but I feel we are doing something wrong. We have got 2012 chassis and I feel I need to check it to for straightness. Just really irritated by constant problem. Basically every session we are ending up with a new axel.

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Axles should last as long as the chassis beside any impacts or relative damage. Stifferens will stop the grub screws from coming loose in a soft axle, so yeah put them in. If you keep bending soft axles, you might just have to go a grade harder for longevity. If it’s really cold and wet, use wet tyres for extra grip.

    • @linadukstaite6046
      @linadukstaite6046 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are using medium axles and wet or dry tires depending on situation. But he brakes axles on everyone practice session. Quest what? Yes again... can it be something to do with geometry or tire pressure or what ever why? No kerbs this time. Totally can’t understand what it is. I’ll try H this time and if nothing works probably we have to go for a new chassis.

    • @linadukstaite6046
