I've listen to a few interviews with Wayne. It is absolutely clear to me that the guy's brain just works very differently from mine and most people's brains. This guy is an absolute genius as a composer and as someone who just simply made music in different ways. Some of his solo works, and the work that he did with the second Miles Davis Quintet are, to me, some of the most interesting music composed and played in the 20th century. I'm not saying he was the greatest, but he is an absolutely underappreciated great. Miles and Herbie knew that Wayne was incredibly talented and creative. This is kind-of incidental, but I get the feeling from Wayne's interviews that the guy might have been on the aspberger's spectrum. He simply doesn't answer questions or communicate the way that most people do. Miles was also a very weird dude. Herbie and Ron Carter are geniuses who communicate like most very smart and highly educated people communicate, but Miles and Wayne were socially very different from most people. Several other jazz greats and also great classical composers were pretty eccentric as well.
one month before 9/11.......
20 years later he is STILL one of the most creative people on the planet.
