It's the lack of respect for the VFX studios. Underpaid, overworked and an overall 'we'll fix it in post' mentality, rather than thorough pre-production storyboarding and planning... I REALLY hope they unionize and follow what the writers are doing, those folks need to be treated far better than they have been.
Apparently, Gareth Edwards didn't want to start working on the VFX until they had the final frames and footage that they were actually going to use in the movie, so in the end, it didn't have to cost like $300M for it to look this beautiful. He had a clear vision of what he wanted to make and didn't waste people's time. We really need more of these. 😅
Well it was a bit sad to know that he lost control in Rogue One by mid post production but I'm still happy the way the movie turned out to be after the reshoots and rewrites from Tony Gilroy
@@Erasureeraser it is still arguably one of if not the best star wars movie tbh. Andor show being the same for star wars shows is really great to see, as you will be able to appreciate and watch both and they both will be good
Also, they *FILMED THE ACTUAL SCRIPT* .... Instead of endless test-screenings and constant revisions. They wrote a script. Filmed it. Added some music and effects. What a crazy idea! Instead of Hollywood's normal way of doing reshoots and trying to please 4 quadrants with a final cut that usually ends up frustratingly forgettable. I hope a lot of people will go and support The Creator. This is what we need. More risk taking with movies that don't _need_ to be for everyone.
The reason why The Creator looks so good without a massive budget is because Gareth Edwards has experience in almost all areas of filmmaking. Cinematography, editing, VFX, writing, and directing all done in his first feature, Monsters in 2010. He understood scale and perspective when he directed Godzilla in 2014. Sadly, after Rogue One, a lot of Hollywood exec blacklisted him due to endless reshoots when the actual fact was, the studio was the one changing things. After 7 long years, it is inspiring to see Gareth Edwards coming back and show what he can REALLY do if the studios lets him!
Yeah this is also why the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy (especially the final battle in The World's End) look better than most films today. The director, Gore Verbinksi, worked as a special effects artist previously. He decided every shot based on the CGI that would be edited in later, preventing any risk of being in a situation where it would be extremely difficult to blend the CGI with reality.
As a Thai person I laughed my ass off when hearing those Thai scientists in the lab who got trapped yelling “yed mae, yed mae “, which means “mtfkr” ! Hahahaha. The movie nailed 90% of Thai language dialogues. Great job.
Not only that, but those were actual scientists. When they were filming, the scientists didn't want them to use their lab, but when they were offered to be in the film, they said yes lol.
Even Rogue One which he lost control on the movie halfway through post production with Tony Gilroy being hired to do reshoots and rewrites, i'm glad it turned out the way he hoped it to be
@@Erasureeraseridk if it turned out the way he wanted to considering they reshot & re-edit a massive portion of the movie. It’s been a long time now but I recall him coming out & saying his cut was nearly a whole different movie
@@ca20mn From my understanding, Gilroy rewrite and reshot mostly the third act especially the Darth Vader scene at the end which was mostly from him. The rest were pretty much Edwards' vision, I could be wrong tho but that's really what I read. Rogue One was going to have a different ending if Gilroy didn't stepped in and did a bunch of rewrites and reshoots
I'm definitely seeing this in the theater, even if just for the fact it's an original film that's not a sequel/prequel/reboot/remake of an existing franchise, this is the sort of films I want to support and see more of.
100%, we have to show with our wallets what we want and what we don't want and Hollywood only listens to that. That's why I stopped paying for MCU films until they get their shit together and why I will be seated for this one.
I definitely get am impression from the reviews of a great film that, strangely, could have been longer. In a year where everyone is making films to long and refusing to trim them… seems like a new trend. And I like the reviewers idea of a directors cut much longer with the F-bombs.
Usually actors can add way more to a scene that a 2 million dollar cgi scene . I haven’t seen the movie yet so I can’t say that’s why it is good but sometimes you don’t need a million workers on a movie . You need a solid script , a solid plot , and some cgi to get the fireworks going.
the movie was amazing but yeh, i wish it was 3 hours. it couldve benefitted with a bit more world building imo, the world is so interesting id watch a whole show on it.@@Travlinmo
The Creator gave me Neill Blomkamp vibes. I absolutely love Neill he also has the talent of making movies that feel high budget but they actually are lower budget movies. P.S. if you dont know who Neill Blomkamp is, he's the director of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie.
Totally agree with OP, but also agree with plot holes. I was laughing at many parts but it really didn't ruin it for me. I stayed invested. I think the Blomkamp thing for me was the extremely human movements of the "projector head" AIs. Very Chappie.
@@Gilgameshoz You think Elysium and Chappie have no plot holes? Buddy. Anyway, I honestly don't care that much about plot holes, if the story is compelling enough and is not told in a way that makes me mad, it's still a net good time for me. So there, my two cents
I have said that hey, the story is straightforward but my god, that world building is just flawless. I feel like a had a million visuals thrown at me, just this diaspora of colour and culture, to the point that I honestly could watch this again tomorrow, despite just returning from my first viewing, just to pick up on even more of the details that I undoubtedly missed. While I think just over 2 hours is a perfect length for this film, my biggest compliment is that I honestly want further sequels based in this universe, because my god is it gorgeous.
It’s funny, because this proves you can absolutely make one with budgets of under $100M, you just need people who know how to get it done, not amateurs who play around with tens of millions like it’s nothing without respecting either the money or the people who put their trust in them.
@@alexman378 How does it prove that? It proves you can makes a movie for that much but it has to be a blockbuster before it can be called one made for under $100 million.
The budget for the movie is $80 million with great visual effects all around and it was shot with a Sony FX3 camera (it's actually inspiring that type of camera is now being used to make a movie with this huge scale) and somehow it looks better than basically any recent superhero movie being made is absolutely astonishing tbh
you know its funny because hollywood tends to spend too much money on movies, but if you look at some foreign films you gonna impress how cheap they are, and how good looking they are as well. I guess it comes to how you use the money as well.
@@arieffandy8846 It's just way cheaper using Sony FX3 compare to using your typical standard Arri Alexa/Sony Vehicles like most movies used these days. So to see a different type of camera that's smaller and cheaper compare to Arri Alexa is actually inspiring. At least that's how I see it, my uncle used Sony FX3 a lot and this movie will likely inspired him (if he wants to be a filmmaker anyway) to use Sony FX3 to make the movie he wants. It's just pretty inspiring what can be done with an FX3 to make a huge movie like this, many aspiring filmmakers can realistically own one. The same way that Steven Soderbergh shot his recent movies instead of a big camera, he used his iPhone instead and it totally works I could be wrong in some parts but this is just the way I see it
To be fair, I didn't have plans to watch this movie. I wasn't interested in it, it's not one of my anticipated movie for the rest of the year, I just thought of waiting to watch it on streaming but my gut told me that I should just watch it in theater with an open mind. And I gotta say, I'm glad that I watched the movie in the theater. Pretty surreal experience, I hope a lot of people support the movie because it was pretty good
Oh I've been excited for at least a month. Though I do wish that preview screening I attended marketed itself as just a few clip sneak peeks, rather than an early screening of the film itself.
Just got back from watching the movie, it was ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!!! Finally, an original sci-fi epic that is very-well shot and directed!! It’s already in my top 10 movies of 2023 👍🏻👍🏻
absolutely. so rare now to see an original story get some big hollywood money and succeed like this film is. every big budget hollywood film now has to be attached to some big IP to get green-lit, with the only exceptions being the biggest of big name directors like tarantino, scorsese, and nolan, who can sell a movie on their name alone.
Is everyone in here blind the creator is a garbage movie its script is terrible it has so mqny plot holes its trying to be serious when all i got was comedy with the trashcan robot scuside bombers
*$80 MILLION!* Now I love this movie even more! Just finished watching it, and it's on the scale and level of Edward's other movies, yet has half the budget. I hope this movie gets the love it deserves, as a movie like this feels rare these days.
@@fredocuomo5386 No offense but have you been living under a rock? Millions are boycotting due to a myriad of social and political issues this company has been engaging in. This was an ambitious, passionate, idealistic project. From the theme, the music choices, the designs we've seen allover the net from artworks that made us think "Boy, this will look good in movies", i respect and thankful for people involved in this project.
Just saw it in IMAX with an empty theater. Completely disappointed that more people weren't there, because this was stunning, emotional, well-acted, and excellent all around!
movie was eye candy but other then that, it was shallow and had many glaring issues. For a sci-fi movie it had the same issues like recent star wars movies - stuff LOOKS impressive but is illogical like mad. So many things in the movie did not make sense, like NOMAD. Sometimes it was barrely over the clouds (5km at most away), sometimes it was in high orbit. Either its up there, not visible, or its close by. But the scale of the structure changed in every scene. It was just made to be a "big bad death star". there was other continiuinity issues in the movie to, stuff in once scene was gone in the next and later in the movie it was there again. And all the bad guys where annoymous white males, and the good guys asian. And scenery was made to look cool and futuristic but had no real idea what they where supposed to acctualy be. And why would a AI choose to look like a 70 year old rice farmer when it is synthetic? It can look how ever it wants to. But no, old asian men is what you expect in the rice fields. And why does a robot need to sleep, ever? It looks like they just charge. And is every one having a button to just turn off/stand by? thats just weird. If i was a AI that is is sentient, i would not like to have a power off or suspend button on me. and sometimes robots die from a chest wound, sometimes not. And why would the police drop a grenade in a room with the innocents you want to protect? Madness.
@@jmkhenka I'm not really bothered by any of those because it's easy to suspend disbelief or they're fairly easily explained. I also didn't get a sense of "good" or "bad" guys, but that it's a very complex subject. The "bad" guys didn't perceive that they were killing people, they reacted to killing AI the same as you would react today to turning off a phone. This is why they seemed cold, but it doesn't make them "bad" per se except from the perspective of the AI that we stick with through most of the film. I'm not sure I follow the "all the bad guys were anonymous white males". The main character is "not a good person" and a black man who has a redemption arc. The main antagonist is a white person, yes, but a woman. There's also the woman soldier who was fighting off the police while her team was underground. And the black guy (I think his name was Daniels?) who was setting up the bombs to go off in the lab. AI couldn't choose what they looked like, and it also seemed to me like they can age. They even said explicitly "She looks like a little girl now but she's growing and her powers are growing", implying that she will become an adult-looking AI one day. We even see when Alphie was an infant AI with a little baby body, even a fetus body when it was being built. The button turning off is a bit weird but not a major issue for me. Seems like it could be explained. Maybe it's only that specific AI who has that button because he's an older model, but the main character knows the button is there because he had a close relationship to that particular AI. I don't know, that's probably a bad explanation, but my point is it doesn't really matter to me to have every single detail explained. Movies don't need to have every detail explained. They need to be entertaining. If you want realistic AI then go talk to ChatGPT.
Ngl over the past 3 months The Creator became my most anticipated movie of the year, im now more excited for this than I was for Oppenheimer. I think the reason for that is I knew Oppenheimer would be a masterpiece, but this came out of nowhere and has so many amazing credits to it’s name for the indie-blockbuster genre…I’m just so happy
Just finished it…Can’t tell you how many times I had to rewind it because i was blown away by the visuals and nuances of this Masterpiece. Best looking movie I have seen all year.
An absolutely stunning film. When you consider expendables 4 was made with the same amount on budget, you have to be amazed at what’s presented on screen. The creator needs to be seen by an audience, so go tell everybody once you’ve seen it how good it is.
Still don't understand how Expendables 4 cost $100 million when the ensemble cast wasn't even all that huge anymore compare to the previous movies and the CGI in the movie was fucking terrible

I cannot wait to see this! Gareth Edwards has been one of my favourite directors ever since Godzilla. Man’s style and filmmaking skill is just unmatched.
Directors who began working with VFX tend to have stellar CGI because they know what it takes to make CGI look seamless. It works with Gareth Edwards, Neil Blomkamp, Gore Verbinski, James Cameron, etc.
Even Rogue One which had extensive rewrites and reshoots turned out to be pretty good. He saved himself from the Rogue One production problems and he had no hard feelings with it. One of few movies where reshoots actually improved the movie, the whole Darth Vader scene at the end was pretty much part of the reshoots, not Edwards' original vision
That scene where Everything In It's Right Place by Radiohead started playing out of nowhere was incredible. When those first few notes started I was like ...... what?! Being an avid Radiohead listener, that was great.
I first learned about Gareth Edwards when I saw "Monsters - 2010" I believe he wrote, directed, did the effects himself and made that movie for $1m and it was amazing so I paid attention to him ever since but movies like Godzilla 2014 showed me while he is super talented he needs help with tightening up writing and editing so his films pace better as it seems like when he gets good help in those areas he really shines, Rouge One is a perfect example of this. His short comings aside he really is a visionary and can make a masterpiece on a shoe string budget I urge everyone to check out "Monsters" released in 2010.
For some reason I feel like this movie is destined to not do well at the box office but eventually be one of those movies that people appreciate years after the fact.
Gareth Edwards first film, Monsters, is super underrated. It's a unique take on extraterrestrials on Earth all told through a believable story of two characters, shot semi-guerilla style on location in South America with mostly non-professional actors, edited on a laptop with all the VFX done by Edwards himself, and a really great ambient electronic score by Jon Hopkins.
The premise, even through the trailers alone, it felt like one of those "The Animatrix" films about the nature of humans with robots, but became its own movie.
I saw this movie today, and it was such an amazing and thought-provoking experience! I'd recommend it to anyone. Also if you're the type to cry at brilliantly written/acted emotional moments, bring tissues.
If you've "been there", you know. It's coming up on 10 years when my sister and I watched as our mom was taken off life support. It's still raw sometimes. But it had to be done. It's what she wanted -- in writing -- and things were getting worse by the hour. It was her time.
@@christianmeile1466 Yeah I agree but I can't tell if it's the story or the editing. Some things were "choppy" and I got lost a few times, especially at the escape pod of who was inside and who was outside.
Monsters is great. And what's great is how many job that Edwards took for the movie. He was the director, writer, cinematographer, visual effects artist, and production designer for the sets. Impressive work right there
Watching the 'making of' on the bluray showed how little it takes to turn this world into an alien world. Really got the Monsters vibe in most Asia scenes in this one.
I knew a vfx artist who worked on Tom Hooper's Les Miserables, who apparently couldn't/wouldn't visualize the shots without the vfx in place, so they would waste days/months doing work that would just end up going in the bin. Hooper would obsess over the composition of the stars in the sky of certain scenes, sending shots back to be reworked again and again, and those shots wouldn't even make the final cut. This is what happens when you mix a lack of appreciation for vfx artists, their time and their mental health (lets face it, being underpaid, doing insane hours, and having your work pulled apart on the daily because of poor front-end planning has got to mess with your well-being). So glad to hear how streamlined and organized Gareth Edwards was during this movie, it matters.
CGI has sadly enabled directors to be lazy. In the past the director had to understand VFX and had to plan "plates" thoughtfully because they could not be easily changed. Now directors think they can just click "undo" and "fix it in post".
Tom Hooper was even worse towards VFX artists on Cats where he would berat them and make them work hours and hours on the film without breaks. And we all know how that turned out.
Gareth Edwards really understands scale and perspective and teaming up Greig Fraser was an amazing choice. No wonder this movie looks so damn beautiful
Well Greig Fraser's involvement was just in pre production because he had schedule conflict with Dune Part 2 by the time The Creator was about to start filming. Oren Soffer, another cinematographer credited in the movie with Fraser was the one who shot the movie during filming. Fraser himself served as co-producer for the movie. By the time The Creator started filming, Fraser left to work on Dune Part 2, Soffer took over for filming. Apparently Gareth Edwards was also one of the camera operators for the movie and it make sense since he was a cinematographer in his indie movie, Monsters
I just saw this knowing nothing about it. Walked out in tears. It was brilliant. And so happy to see money being thrown at ORIGINAL CONTENT AND GOOD WRITING
Gareth Edwards got his start doing movies like this. His feature debut was an indie called Monsters (2010) and this feels very much of that same process -- an emotionally-charged movie that looks way more expensive than it actually is.
I just got out of the theater. That movie stuck the landing for me with the emotions. Right when the credits started rolling I was taking all of what I just experienced in!
Just got out of the film. Got home and fired up TH-cam and found Jeremy's take, which he rarely disappoints. He got most of this right here. I wasn't sure if Hollywood could give us another original (what I call it). Terminator theory story. The James Cameron reference was a given for me. We can't leave out the Matrix either and several other films. Humans create AI and believe its trying to keel them. Jeremy, I also told the party I was with when we walked in that it had a paltry budget😉 of 80 million. We watched in IMAX, and all marveled at the cinematography and presentation of this film. I felt it was paced almost perfectly. The thing that sets it apart for me is it gives you both sides of the AI debate (the good and bad) and allows you to make your own decision. None of it ever felt forced. I also leaned over and suggested video game to my party and not in a bad way. When you see this film for the first time and hopefully it's in IMAX. Well, as our friend Jeremy said. It's worth the price of admission and is why we go to the movies. Then get that 4k bluray day one. A master class in Sci-Fi film making.
Wow, that is surprising. Saw the trailer and was like "Oh, wow. A movie with AI that becomes evil. How original." Didn't intend to see it but will give it a chance now.
Reminds me how Ex Machina had tons of visual effects you didn't even notice - and even won an Oscar for visual effects as a result over Fury Road, Force Awakens, the Martian, and the Revenant.
One of the best movies I have watched. Left me stunned, and deep in thought. Very philosophical. I didn't know which side to support throughout the whole movie. Can't guess the ending either. Every moment is original and well thought out. Amazing plot, graphics, acting, everything. Highly recommend everyone to watch it!
The way Jeremy describes the movie sounds like one of the better Neil Blomkamp movies. The clips he uses make it look like a cross between District 9 and (maybe) Elysium.
A largely original concept on a lower budget with a trailer that really built hype. I’m glad this movie is good, and I really hope it does well at the box office to show Hollywood that ultra high budget franchise films aren’t the only thing that can be made today.
This is what happens when you have a director who has deep personal experience with VFX work instead of seeing their VFX team as a magic black box that spits out frames.

So excited to see this in IMAX as a belated bday movie. Hopefully, the movie does good business and more filmmakers/studios take a chance on "original" mid/semi big budgeted stories
Love the movie sci-fi cinematic experience so much that i watched it twice in the theaters. This is the type of movie that’s meant to the watch at the big screen to be able to appreciate the immersive sci-fi workd.
The FX you don’t notice on a lower budget, like District 9. Probably has something to do with passion for the project instead of just doing a job. Cameron has lost this, it’s all about the tech now, the spectacle, one upping the last one. This director made Monsters first & comes from an FX background like Blomkamp where world building is a big part of the effect. Maybe more FX people should move into running projects? Navigating budget constraints is always a big part of that job.
This movie felt like it needed a prequel to understand why the stakes are so high; to explore some of those world-building themes and AI sentience vs Human Conciousness. It's undeniably visually stunning especially for it's budget, and even tho it does feel rushed and the plot has some defects that were backlogged, i'd really want to support the independent movies like this for its entertainment and thought-provoking value. Gareth Edwards VFX background really comes through and hopefully given a few more opportunities in the risk-averse studio climate, I think he could be an exciting filmmaker to watch out for.
Saw this on an ANA flight to Japan, as it was the only non-Marvel movie that had English subtitles and, since I’m hard of hearing, I need subtitles. I thought it was very original, well acted and quite entertaining.
I feel sad about the fact that i didn't witnessed this is cinema hall...i felt that im in that world...the visuals were some of the most stunning ones I have seen in recent times...I mean this is something so fresh in sci fi.... I loved it
My main issue with this movie is it really had nothing to do with actual AI and didn’t explore any of the many interesting ideas around it. The AI could be replaced with normal humans in this movie and nothing would change.
The first Dune film was under 120, most Nolan films aren’t much more than that. It’s about how competent the film maker and producers are and what studio it’s being made.
i can’t tell if this is a dig or not, what does the northman have to do with anything? it’s set in our world albeit the past; it takes money to build all of the realistic things robert wanted. also, had a more well known cast.
@chance1774 Chill. I'm a big Eggers fan too, but that budget was ridiculous. So as you said, probably Talent got paid a big chunk of that, I understand. I had a similar reaction to Hateful 8 too. Movie cost about $60 million when 80% of it is one room. But it's understandable if it's because of the Talent. My point is, you gotta admire Edwards for making a movie on a budget of $80 million look like it cost $200 million to make. That is no mean Feat.
Jeremy I've been a fan of yours for almost a decade now and I think now I can you tell you with certainty that you were born to do this man. Wow what a great review, the way you describe the film makes me want to experience it theatres. 👏
Movie was nice looking, girl actress was excellent, but man plot holes galore. That whole scene of getting on the nuke ship and then Joshua emrbacing his AI wife was very hard to follow. Letting Joshua "kill" the AI girl once they returned to LA just seemed so dumb. Why did they give him that opportunity? The sticky bombs on people's back then getting into full helicopters to explode happened more than once. If you get hit with something and don't die on impact maybe check out what that was? Felt like a Wal-Mart Distric 9 which is still better than most right now I guess.
This movie blew me away. It was a pure sci fi film with heart. The visuals are phenomenal, and not to mention it was made with a tiny budget compared to say..A Marvel film. If you haven't see it this review is spot on and this movie is a fresh story and all around good film.
one of the explosion shots that was in the trailer for the film was a 1 to 1 rip of the 2020 beruit explosion, corridor digital pointed it out in a video. a bit odd and grimey that they would just straight up use a real shot of recent tragedy.
So hot take, I don’t think the movie did a great job in establishing the universe. There was one line that was supposed to align you to the side of the robots. But throughout the movie the AI contradicted itself on multiple occasions. It felt like we didn’t have a true “big bad” it just felt like misunderstanding on both sides. Getting towards the end I looked at the main character as a kinda villain because he put innocent people in danger or worse. I feel like a few more scenes to bridge this would’ve helped. Give us someone who actively knew what really happened but still wants to proceed and that would’ve helped in establishing what I think they were aiming for. But positives, the acting was great , the visuals were stunning, especially on that budget and I think most people won’t pick it apart as much I tend to do with movies
One of the most underrated scfi movies of all time. It's a crime that it didn't bring in the box office reception it deserved. Visually, storywise as well as the characters were just beautiful to watch. Alfie was to joy to watch on screen. The screen presence that kid brought , the emotions especially in the 3rd and final act of the movie was just beautiful.
And yeah Jeremy, the version I just watched had multiple F-bombs so there probably is an R-Rated cut. Watched in on this streaming device that pulls live channels from all over the world and also has a movie section.
The fact that this had an $80 million budget and looked THIS GOOD should illustrate the problems with budgetary waste in movies.

Great job.
The robots speaking English with a Thai accent killed me as well 😂
Not only that, but those were actual scientists. When they were filming, the scientists didn't want them to use their lab, but when they were offered to be in the film, they said yes lol.

Gareth Edwards is underrated. He really knows how to use a budget
@@Erasureeraser not sure how you mean 'lost control' if you mean Disney executives took it away from him, then yes.
How is he under rated? He had previously done 3 movies, 1 of which was a 6 figure budget, 1 sucked, and the other was taken away from him.
I'm definitely seeing this in the theater, even if just for the fact it's an original film that's not a sequel/prequel/reboot/remake of an existing franchise, this is the sort of films I want to support and see more of.
Seeing this tomorrow in Hong Kong - can't wait!
Gonna see this on Sunday, I can't wait.
“Original” lmao this is the most generic plot of all time

@@BrezzyBoi33 every idea has an inspiration.
I love the idea that the initial estimate budget for the movie was 300 million and Gareth Edwards essentially said 'I can do it with 85 million'

Yeah they cut the budget by not spending any money on the script or story in general
I just saw it and highly recommend it. Very good couple of hours.
The Creator gave me Neill Blomkamp vibes. I absolutely love Neill he also has the talent of making movies that feel high budget but they actually are lower budget movies.
P.S. if you dont know who Neill Blomkamp is, he's the director of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie.
And dont forget those Yt movies under Oats Studio ❤
Those moves had plot this movies has more holes than Swiss cheese
Totally agree with OP, but also agree with plot holes. I was laughing at many parts but it really didn't ruin it for me. I stayed invested.
I think the Blomkamp thing for me was the extremely human movements of the "projector head" AIs. Very Chappie.
This looks like District 9 w/ A.I.
I originally thought this was Neill directing
It’s crazy how making a blockbuster under 100 million is a rare commodity now a days
It has to be a blockbuster first.
As is shooting on location, unfortunately.
It’s funny, because this proves you can absolutely make one with budgets of under $100M, you just need people who know how to get it done, not amateurs who play around with tens of millions like it’s nothing without respecting either the money or the people who put their trust in them.
And this movie should make big money eventually.
Bloat and corruption is the reason.
@@lelandbjerg1187I don't know what you mean my corruption, they always sucked
can you give me context of the scale/complexity of the Sony FX3 camera compared to what being used for other big budget movies?
you know its funny because hollywood tends to spend too much money on movies, but if you look at some foreign films you gonna impress how cheap they are, and how good looking they are as well.
The same way that Steven Soderbergh shot his recent movies instead of a big camera, he used his iPhone instead and it totally works
I could be wrong in some parts but this is just the way I see it

The dedication to the heart of storytelling cannot be contained. The lore and world building will spark all creative minds. What a fantastic film.
Madness.
@@jmkhenka Well the Americans are the bad guys in this movie so the bad guys are mostly white...Not really surprising.

His short comings aside he really is a visionary and can make a masterpiece on a shoe string budget I urge everyone to check out "Monsters" released in 2010.
monsters was great. godzilla was good visually, but the script/plot really sucked, i just had no empathy for the main character or his wife.
Monsters was about $50,000-$80,000 budget.

Monsters is great. Really interesting sci-fi world-building all seen through the very grounded journey of two believable characters.

Crazy that people are saying it should have been longer. That speaks volumes. Hopefully a director's cut is in the pipeline..

Always look forward to your reviews! Thanks for this, it looks like a must see in theaters.
This is such a fantastic example of creativity and evolution of filmmaking!
I was waiting for Washington to say "I want the knife". This has the Golden Child all over it as well.
This 80 million dollar film looked like it had a 200 million dollar budget.
*Terminator meets The Last of Us meets Logan. It’s a great film and the James Cameron comparison is spot on. Great review Jeremy!*
This film was so good. Im glad I saw it in Imax. I also cried like a baby at the end 😭
i just watched it, that little girl with tears in her eyes and crying broke me.
Agreed. Nailed it. It really needed a prequel.
I loved it
The Creator has instantly jumped into my top ten movies of all time for me, my first viewing left me weeping and in numerous pieces. 😭
I hope interstellar is in your list.
Cried the whole way home
LMAO
You guys must have low standards to have this top 10
I would pay not to watch this movie again, ever.
My main issue with this movie is it really had nothing to do with actual AI and didn’t explore any of the many interesting ideas around it. The AI could be replaced with normal humans in this movie and nothing would change.
$80 million, goddamn that sounds impossible. Yet Northman was made with a $90 million budget. Smh
I’d love to hear a review on A.I.
the movie Stanley Kubrick never got to make.
It was a very good sci fi movie! Definitely a must watch.
I’m just going to say it: the plot holes were incredibly jarring and whilst world building is pretty, it’s is internally inconsistent
one of the explosion shots that was in the trailer for the film was a 1 to 1 rip of the 2020 beruit explosion, corridor digital pointed it out in a video. a bit odd and grimey that they would just straight up use a real shot of recent tragedy.
The Golden child with eddie murphy comes to mind too
I have been SCREAMING this ever since I saw the first trailer/promo!
I think that's kind of the point: it isn't black and white, there aren't "good guys" and "bad guys".
The kid playing Alpha 0 is amazing. The movie is great, surprised my local AMC theater was not packed for both screening in IMAX on preview Thursday.
Add this one to the list of movies I absolutely regret not watching in theaters.
And yeah Jeremy, the version I just watched had multiple F-bombs so there probably is an R-Rated cut. Watched in on this streaming device that pulls live channels from all over the world and also has a movie section.
