Xie Lian, the crown prince of Xian Le Kingdom, successfully ascends to Heaven during his third trial despite of successive demotions. However, he accidentally breaks the Gold Palace of heavenly officials. With no human worshiping him, Xie Lian has to descend to the secular world to exorcise ghosts, which may help him sustain his divinity. During his adventure, Xie Lian encounters two heavenly officials and a mysterious young man in red. As much as Pei Ming was an ass for playing around, Xuan Ji's actions were also kind of toxic. Selling out your own country was pretty bad. Committing self harm to force someone to stay in a relationship with them. Also taking out her anger of innocent people and killing them.
Pei Ming is to blame for a large part, but XuanJi isn't wholly innocent either in this lover spat. I feel bad for her, but can't agree with her actions

That's just how he is. Even in the novel I always got the impression he spoke in a calm manner, except for when he is under extreme duress then maybe he sounds more agitated (but this is what I imagine).

Personally I don’t really sympathize with Xuan Ji. Pei Ming told her clearly from the beginning they were only temporary, and she was the one that grew obsessed with him. She betrayed her own country voluntarily (he didn’t ask anything from her!!) and THEN she cut off her legs so she could guilt him into staying with her. That’s so manipulative on her part!! Even after she lost her legs, Pei Ming took care of her. Yeah he didn’t go see her, but what was he supposed to do? It’s not like seeing her would’ve made her less obsessed with him? Personally, if someone I didn’t like went that psycho, I wouldn’t want to see them either.... he had no obligation to marry her, especially if he didn’t loved her, Xuan Ji was the one who went too far

First I want to say that I hate her, she is like those psychopathic exes that threaten you to guilt-trip you. But, I must say that Pei Ming shouldn't have disrespected her as a fellow General by kissing her and both countries were pretty tense, it was a terrible idea. He didn’t kiss her in the original story, and just liked her because she was that prideful and confident female general (I disregard that kiss cause it never rlly happens in the actual story). I just don’t like it when people say Pei is not good enough because in traditional Chinese values, Xuan Ji does not match Pei Ming in status nor power. What happened to Xuan Ji is completely self inflicted cause all the woman that got with Pei Ming lives a lavish life when they ended the relationship.
