  • In this edition of BIH we bring to you the story of the cordial relationship which existed for many years between Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and Mamman Vatsa but which ended in the execution of Mamman Vatsa by firing squad during the military presidency of his friend - Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. We discuss their growing up years, their education in the same schools, their career progression in the military, the relationship between both of their families and the events that led to the execution of Mamman Vatsa. Babangida and Mamman were high ranking military officers in Nigeria.

According to Lord Acton "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". It's so unfortunate that Mamman Vatsa, Mariam Babangida and Sufiya Vatsa have all gone to the great beyond. It is now left for IBB who is still partially alive, to reconcile himself with his God.

The Yoruba word says "eniyan meji kii padanu iro. Ti eniti a nparo fun ko ba mo pe nwon nparo fun ohun, eniti o nparo mo wipe ohun nparo fun enikeji". This translates to mean that if a man tells lies to another person, the person who's being told lies may not know that he's being lied to but the person telling lies will know that he's telling lies to the other person. So two people cannot lose in a situation of falsehood.
In the Vatsa coup story, the truth was hidden and it is still hidden but someone and some people knew the truth and the lies. The reality is that ambitious military men wasted not only the nation's resources but also the lives of vibrant Nigerians through coups. They failed woefully to solve all the problems they pretended to have to solve. They came not to help Nigerians but to satisfy their selfish ambitions. I am sure the Nigerian history has no good place for the military in political governance. Right from the first coup of January 15 1966, they set themselves on the path of self destruction and plunged the nation to avoidable civil war. Who cares about their case of dog eats dog. Everything about them is good riddance to bad rubbish.

The question now is who betrayed. The friend who knew of a coup & didn’t stop it or a friend who knew his friend will be executed if found guilty and didn’t stop it. @user-nw5tb3pz8q what more proof do you need?
Do you know that for anyone to be executed in Nigeria a governor or president would have to sign their death warrant? For this reason, so many prisoners never see the noose because many governors don't want blood on their hands considering they might end up getting someone unfairly killed due to how unfair the Nigerian judiciary is. That said, the fact that Mamman's death warrant was signed by IBB for unknown evidence of treason speaks volume. There's no doubt that the corrupt state of Nigeria will never try IBB but God's judgement is fair and closer than he thinks.

All of Vatsa children with the exception of his last daughter died prematurely. The wife died of anguish as well vowing never to set her feet in Minna so long as Babangida was still alive which she never did. The whole Vatsa community has never and may never recovered from the unfortunate execution of Vatsa. What is more intriguing and heart wrecking was that their was no evidence and this has comes to light now according to both General Domkat Bali and Lt Colonel Moses Effiong. Again, the events that preceded the investigation clearly shows that Vatsa was targeted. I learnt recently that Vatsa was actually cleared by SIP before the SIP was overruled by Babangida. This eventually led to his court-martial led by General Ndiomu. That Vatsa was composed through out the trial wearing a constant smile and reminding Babangida and his Tribunal judges that what ever their verdict may be, which he can already discern, it was not going to be his final hour, and with those words he left his captors and executors with a smile. On the 5th/03/1986. He was executed, thrown into a ditch, had acid pour on him and buried like a dead animal all on the order of Babangida who make sure the whole epistle were video for his personal viewing and pleasure. Only Babangida knows why he did what he did. Coup which was non existent in the first place was never the reason why Vatsa was executed. Like Vatsa said, God judgement is ultimate.

We have a lot of corrupt and guilty criminals, currently walking free in our beloved country today, without prosecution. If we are a country that believes in the rule of LAW, these people and events needs to be investigated. We owe this to our democratic principle and believes. My submission: Assuming Vatsa truly committed the crime for which he was executed in 1986, what did Babangida do to rehabilitate his late friend's family? Nothing! The wife and children of Vatsa endured great hardship and sorrow to the bitter end of their stay on planet Earth. In the end, no man is immortal! The Babangida of this day is a 'living dead man'. Vatsa, MKO & Abacha are waiting for him in the great beyond.

If the information in this video is exactly what happened, then Maman was guilty of something. I'm however against the killing of Vasta especially at the call of IBB. There were a lot of options at the disposal of IBB. Exile, House arrest, Long imprisonment...I am convinced that Maman was guilty was guilty by circumstances not because he hated his bossom friend.
It's a very bad ending for such a brotherhood friendship.

    • @MohammedTsonga-qi1cv
      @MohammedTsonga-qi1cv 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

He was not guilty, he was set up by Babangida and his cronies and I tell you these below.
Vatsa was used as scape goat to give Babangida the latitude to stay in power for as long as he wanted because Vatsa who was seen as his Siamese twin executed was to send a strong signal to the rest of the army not to contemplate any stupid.
Remember Vatsa was in Mecca when Babangida orchestrate a coup and overthrow Buhari. Colonel Halilu Akilu who was the director of DMI told his surbodinate officer Lt Colonel Christian Oche to shadow Vatsa upon his return from Mecca. This clearly shows that machinery was already set in motion upon his return for what eventually happens to him (Vatsa). The same Christian Oche was abandon by his Superior on whose order he set up Vatsa. He ( Christian Oche) went to his grave which he shared with 9 other colleagues believing he was used and dump by those he was working for.
Again, the arrest of most of the officers implicated in the coup took place a week before Vatsa was arrested. Now if he was guilty he probably would have run away to extricate himself but he didn't do that.
2 days after his arrest Even before the SIP conclude their investigation, the Vatsa family were already send out from there official residence indicating a predetermined outcome of where the investigation was heading. Vatsa was I recently discovered was actually cleared by the SIP but the SIP was overruled by Babangida and that led to Vatsa court-martial.
2 key witnesses indeed confess that their was no evidence of Vatsa involvement and that Babangida prosecutors used circumstantial evidence like Vatsa been introduced in private ceremony by an MC as the next president of Nigeria, that Vatsa also gave C of O of land in Abuja to some officers to induce them but incidentally some of the prosecuting officers and Tribunal judges also received C of O from Vatsa.
Look i have done extensive research on the whole issue and it clearly shows Vatsa was murdered.
Finally, suppose Vatsa and others were guilty. Their guilt would have fall under treasonable felony punishable by long prison term not treason which carries death penalty because there was no coup yet.
Vatsa wear ever present smile reminding Babangida and his team of military collaborators he was not afraid of them and that he was tired of defending himself over a pack of phantom coup trial and that "his detention and execution will not be his final hour for he has God promise on that ". And with those words he left his captors and executors with smile even as he was been executed.
His troubles didn't end their as he was untie from the stake and his lifeless body was thrown in to a ditch, had acid pour on him and buried like an animal all on the order of Babangida who make sure the whole epistle was video for his personal viewing and pleasure.
Very traumatizing and why all Vatsa children died prematurely except for the last daughter who left the country to settle in London with her husband.

In as much i am not happy with the way it ended (i would have preferred him to be sentenced to life in prison instead of the death sentence), in my own opinion, Vasta committed the crime from is actions of waking his children from sleep to hug them and also when he alighted from his wife's car and hugged her. He knew he has been found.
Anyways, i would like to if as at today Babangida is remorseful for approving the killing of his best friend

Your observations were spot on. Those actions of his point to the fact he was aware of what was next to come.
As for IBB, there was nothing he could have done, even if he wanted to. His hands were already tied by the military institution's rules and laws regarding mutiny, otherwise, he'd be setting a precedence, and others might tune on him and may pay the ultimate price for doing so.

Some of the scenarios in this documentary do not add up.
For instance, when U.K. Bello was sent to get Vatsa, did Vatsa know what it was for? If he did, it makes no sense for his wife to say that he should postpone it till morning because it was not an invitation but an arrest. If he did not know, why would he wake his children up to hug them if he thought he was going to a normal meeting?
What kind of a military convoy comes to arrest a person and lets his wife drive him halfway? It just doesn't make sense.
When did the attempted military coup take place? As a senior officer, surely he must have known that his name is coming up in investigations or there is a trust deficit developing between him and IBB.
Why would a delegation of literary people visit for clemency hours before execution and not well before time?
Finally, military intelligence is responsible for keeping track of everything going on within the military. It is unlikely you frame someone out of the blue. Usually, there is smoke where there is fire and something fishy must have been going on. Also, an army chief will usually not intervene in treason cases. Otherwise, nobody would fear their fate, and coup d'etats would be much more common.

It was thought to be a normal meeting when he received the call but upon the arrival of UK Bello he came with an arrest warrant signed by the provost marshal of the Nigeria army at the time Major General Sani Sami on the order of Babangida. So Vatsa had to wake the children up to kiss them because even if he was not find guilty, it would take a long time to regain his freedom which he never did.
