the specials changed my life, set me on my career path and I worked for them at a show a lifetime later. then I only heard about his horrific childhood experience , he was one in billion
Snap 🫰. Just started secondary school. Was already into ska , mod music and clothes. The Specials were indeed exactly that. Terry was brilliant in every band he formed
Terry Hall is a legend and put coventry on the world map. He was a music genius and displayed this in all his works. The bands he played in and founded were the best influences in my life. RIP Terry your one of the best, taken too soon.😢💯❤
I was 20 years old when I saw The Specials on SNL in 1980. It rocked my world the same as hearing Led Zeppelin in 1970 or Zoot Allures in 1976. All seismic musical experiences for me. I still listen to Terry and his group regularly. Thanks for almost 50 years of smiles.
the specials meant a lot to me when they came out.. and always been a part of my collection.. though a lot of the songs where remakes of old ska tracks they gave them a modern dirty home feel to them giving the songs a new lease of life and reaching a new audience. i was gutted when they split after a shot time.. then when they got back together and started gigging again was a blessing though sadly i could not afford to go and see them at the time when they was playing near us.. and then with his passing.. terry you touched many with your music and it was good to see you back though sadly you was taken from us before your time..
Growing up in between Birmingham and Coventry in the 70-80s this music but more importantly the words and the sentiment spoke deep … only recently have i realised how they influenced by decisions and attitudes in life. So glad and grateful
I found an old shoebox at my Mom's. it was mine from the 90's with my cassette's from back then. Specials, Madness, Selector, Elvis Costello, Smiths, happy Mondays, Stone Roses etc.. Those were the days
My kids were lucky they grew up with me playing these tracks to them. After playing the stranglers and sex pistols to them...they got something special!! The specials. Long live scar.
Pretty sure the guitarist at th-cam.com/video/XAvG8koNqhs/w-d-xo.html was the same one who played with the Smiths on their OGWT session playing Big Mouth Strikes Again.
Sometimes you do and sometime you don't... I'm 59- similar situation. Parents didn't want us(2 bros) Gr parents weren't sure... in between "grownups" making up their minds we had to go somewhere.
That Mark Ronson 'tribute' was a fucking insult. What on earth was she doing?.....I think Terry said it best by walking off stage and saying absolutely jack shit to her or him. The rest of this however is truly bliss.
Rest in Peace Terry.

I can still remember first time I heard gangsters, in my bedroom, aged 12, what's this!!?? my first single purchase.

Terry death was painful for a lot of his fans ... RIP to one of the few singers who never sold out
RIP Terry Hall anthems of my youth. Soo good.

No wonder, they were called" the specials, they were the best!, first class!!,
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
Every time I hear this music and lyrics I think 'I needed that'..
Rest in power Terry. Your music lives on.
one of the many great artists humanity lost between 2021 and 2024 💉🏴☠️🐑🤷♂️
So glad that Ghost Town is in this compilation. For some reason it isn’t on the best of album😢
How...would that be possible?
Terry always looked so sad (not surprising what he went through) The Specials were such a great live band. RIP Terry and JB
Legacy lives on 🎶 #special 🙏♥️

Rest in peace Terry hall Rico Rodriguez and John (Brad) Bradbury you are sorely missed and thanks for all of our memories 🙏🙏❤️
The Specials [and the whole Two-Tone era] and Fun Boy Three were the sounds of my youth ❤
Much missed!

We had a great chance of racial unity in this country until it was decided we were to be divided for the good of the masters 😢
It’s up to us tho isn’t it? Tell your kids not to join in. Don’t read that shit etc
Who says we're not united?
Your experiences don't mirror my own.

A very underrated talent. Our lips are sealed is for me the best song of the 80's.
That was after The Specials, it was Terry’s next creation: Fun Boy Three.
I think he was cringing @ the females piercing voice
Still have The Specials cassette album. Never stopped loving his work.

Ska sorry.
I thought I knew the whole Terry story....thanks for sharing and getting to know his genius more...

Ska was so fun in 1987. I still miss my P200.
He has the most beautiful eyes !
Fantastic! Ska forever!
He was a wonderful singer
Absolutely first class ❤
Thank you so much for the video.
Thankyou 😊
This is Brilliant 😎❤😅
Some really great songs.
Thanks Terry. Cool
Great to see that Rhoda was Squeezed in to the end there! 🤜🤛
I'm 64 and still dress in my 2 tone gear whenever I go to see a ska band.
American Ivy League look❤
Could see Jarvis Cocker covering ‘Stereotype’ very nicely.
glasto performance was brilliant

You're right it's Craig Gannon on guitar and the bass player is Les Pattinson from the Bunnymen too.....
❤
Badass
Just horrific what happened to Terry . How does one ever get over something like that aged 12
So happy to say I managed to see Neville Staples doing a venue on his own before Terry died😊❤. I danced my socks off! 😊
Sometimes you do and sometime you don't... I'm 59- similar situation. Parents didn't want us(2 bros) Gr parents weren't sure... in between "grownups" making up their minds we had to go somewhere.
Was that Horace Panter playing bass on ‘Stereotype’?
Yes.
Looks like Madness
Fun Boy 3!
Skaed for life...

British
funny that am 47 and stuck to the cooker aye am a guy way 2 massive boys 17 nesez and nephews and the same burd u could be havin fun.....
All the real banging songs were written by Roddy Byers thats for certain! without a Roddy the Specials would have been nothing!
Gangsters was a great song, but I still prefer the original Prince Buster Al Capone version.
To much to young did it for me
I was 13 at the time fantastic
Santigold ruined this fabulous song in my opinion
Yes, that was quite unfortunate to listen to.
❤
