Apparently this movie is going to cover his life . Some of us distinguish scenes from differents battles such as Toulon (Napoleon with long hair), the Egyptian expedition, Austerlitz and the Battle of Waterloo with the french cavary attaking British infantry squares.
I think that the thing with ice, in Battle of Austerlitz, is just a legend that actually did not happen. And it seems like they are charging againts someone, but at this point, they were just running from the battlefield.
the trailer has sections of waterloo and russia, but that could be memories, im sure the main focus will be on his rise and what drove him, (depth relationship with josepine) tagline in the trailer is also just about his rise, not a word mentioned about his downfall
By the way, if you haven't seen it yet but want to see the real scale of the war in this period I strongly suggest the movie Waterloo 1970. And when I say scale, I mean scale. Something like 17,000 Soviet soldiers took part in the extras. To me, the best Napoleon movie yet.
Since Napoleon did not face British squares in battle (as far as I recall) until Waterloo, this film probably encompasses his whole career. But when I saw him firing the grapeshot into the Paris crowd I shouted "Yes!" to my computer. Too many films about the Emperor are little more than precursors to Waterloo, which is about like making a film about Lincoln that begins with his decision to attend a play at Ford's Theater
no chance it was a miracle to have a budget for one movie, you have to thanks Ridley Scott that fought for this movie.. Hollywood abandoned epic historical many tears ago because they always flop and the audience is never happy (they pretend historical accuracy when clearly in a movie is not possible and not worth it)
@Antares-vj7su i remember when ridley scott blamed the then new generation who are stuck on their phones for the failure of historic/period movies. I want to say it was during the early 2010s but not sure. He got a lot flack from it. But being older, i agree with him. I didnt appreciate movies like these in my 20s and below but now i see how good they are. Unless im thinking of another director.
So excited to see the movie. It has been so long since we haven't had a movie on Nappleon ! Important correction tho, the Egyptian campaign was, at the end, a failure BUT it is because the odds were stacked against him and despite that he won some of his greatest victories in terms of casualty ratio with the enemy. He humiliated the Ottoman forces several times, winning crushing victories against numerically superior enemy, losing several times less troops and if I'm not mistaken at one battle he lost like 1 guy against thousands of Ottomans despite the odds.
There's another good Ridley Scott film (1977) on the Napoleonic era called The Duellists, with Keith Carradine and Harvey Keitel. It doesn't have a lot of huge battle scenes because Scott couldn't get the funding at the time to do epic war. Looks like he has the funding, now.
The scene with the square and the cavalry rides around is the battle of waterloo…the second before napoleon wears his grey coat that he has worn at the battle of warerloo…and wellington is also talking in the trailer
1:14 This moment is during the end of the revolution when France is in great disorder, especially in Paris. The young napoleon is asked to restore order. He does this by firing cannons into the crowd. it shows the determined character of the young. It is not the siege of Toulon.

I believe they will focus on pretty much all of it by the looks of it because we see the square formations by the British against the French cavalry and that was at Waterloo.
I said YEARS ago that I'd love to see Phoenix as Joker and Napoleon. I can't even believe it actually happened. Between him and Scott, this should at the very least be a respectable movie. I also heard Spielberg is doing an HBO series about Napoleon too. About time he gets some more coverage. One of the greatest military minds of all time, but also deeply deeply involved in political reforms, many of which still exist today.
I think it would be really cool to see a film about just the politics and reforms of Napoleon. Craft a narrative around him forming his policies and how they were formed. Focus not around the wars, but the laws that we still have today. (PS, I hope Landeskog returns this season)
I recommend the film "Monsieur N." by Antoine de Caunes (2003), for those who are interested to see the last days of Napoleon in St. Helena. It is a masterful depiction of his relationship with the Brits, and has some fictitious elements too.
They showed early victories, Austerlitz, Moscow burning, and Waterloo, which are the ones you usually hear about , but I really really hope they show Leipzig.

It doesn't have to be historically accurate completely, just historically immersive. The Patriot. Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, all great historical films that are immersive but not that accurate. Get the feeling of the era right and don't make unnecessary changes.
A little clarification: you never call Napoleon "French Emperor" but "Emperor of the Frenchs". This is a very important distinction for many historical reasons linked to the Revolution ideas.
I think the film will definately go up to Waterloo. The British squares being attacked by cuirassiers could indicate this. Although, I'm not sure Napoleon ever personnaly lead cavalry charges against British lines.
