I saw the show on Broadway during its first run. It starred George Hearn, whom I had seen previously when he blew the roof off in SWEENEY TODD, and Gene Barry, whom people of my generation might remember as Bat Masterson on TV. Both were amazing in this show, especially Mr Hearn who was the perfect Zaza. "I Am What I Am" made me cry when I first heard it & ever since.
Life is not worth a damn until you view this fabulous video and enjoy every moment. Thank you for sharing it. What a thrill and pleasure. I miss Jerry Herman very much.
A true expression of wild abandon! An uninhibited look at the other side of gay life! Exuberant, enthralling and exciting! A masterpiece of lyrics, music and choreography. Bravo!
I was there in 2008 and I have to say...😔 They did AMAZING!😄 Me my friends, brother and my mom and dad went! My parents took me I was 15 maybe? But now I'm 27 years old
@@JulieWallis1963 the emotions are presented in musical form. It is rude to say those of us that prefer someone able to fulfill that criteria are wrong. That matters to many of us.
I saw the entire show with Graham Norton and he wasn't bad at all...certainly better than Hodge who played Albin like he was Louis de Funes after a stroke.....terrible..best Albin by far I saw was Gary Beach in the truly wonderful 2004 broadway revival
Jerry Herman actually said this London production from the Menier Chocolate Factory was the type of production he always wanted for the original Broadway show but the times were different then and they had to ‘sanitise’ it as a large Vegas style production. This was Herman’s favourite production which after a West End run went to Broadway.
they could mercifully had stopped this 'drek' @ 5:48 mins. & NOBODY in the aud. would've noticed or CARED!!! & THIS won the Best Musical Tony over Sondheim's 'Sunday in the Park w/ George'?!!! oy vey!!! OMG!! Dios Mio!! uh, u gotta be KIDDING, right???! 👎🥴🙀

God damn you Douglas Hodge, making me cry my mascara off! Love this interpretation so much!
Brilliant musical. Attended the original in West End in '80s. Every song so singable.

And I still watch it till this day!
💛💙❤️
Mr Norton sings about as well as he writes books, but he's a fantastic TV presenter.
Mojos Bigstick
GO AWAY
The story isn’t about his singing ability! Rude idiot.

He was great in this. You sound like maybe just because you’re talentless you have to talk others down.
Has nothing on the original
Since the original is no longer…. Thrilled it’s still going!!!

well, uh, that was fun & chaotic, now...wasn't it?! 😝
luv those, MOST distracting, annoying & UNnecessary MULTI-colored WIGs!😵💫😔👎🐝
remember when musicals had folks who could sing?
They still do. Fuck are you on about?
Douglas Hodge was superb.
They still do if you've ever been to a musical instead of whining like a man baby in yr momma's basement.
who on earth thought norton was a good idea, apart from himself?
Graham Norton can’t sing a note. It’s sad.
Love this - would love to see the whole show !
Is all of Broadway gay?
did u not hear when andrew lloyd weber said that it was a groundbreaking musical?
All the way accross the bridge to Queens. Didn't you know?
