  • A tutorial on how to make a Police Lights themed LED Flashing/Blinking LED circuit using 555 timer IC and a few other electronics components. This circuits alternatively flashes between Red LED's and Blue LED's while blinking each of them individually similar to police strobe lights. Explanation of how this circuit works is also included in the video.
    You can also club this circuit with police siren circuit, which is the next project in this 555 timer projects series. I add link to it as soon as I upload the video.
    Link to the project page and circuit diagram: elonics.org/po...
    Components Required
    * 2 x 555 Timer ICs
    * LED's: 3 x Red, 3 x Blue
    * Resistors: 2 x 1M, 2 x 68R (Resistors for LED's)
    * Capacitors: 1uF, 100nF
    * Breadboard
    * Few Breadboard Connectors
    * (5-12)V Power Supply
    Note: Depending on the power supply used and the way LEDs are connected (series or parallel) you need to use a different resistor than 68R used in series with the LED's. Refer to the table shown in the video tutorial above for resistor to be used for basic scenarios. You may also visit ledcalc.com/ to calculate the resistor based on LED arrangements.
    This tutorial is a part of 18 video series on Electronic Projects created using IC 555: • 555 Timer Projects on ...

    I've used an electrolytic capacitor instead of the ceramic one. But it does not work correctly. Is ceramic capacitor mandatory?

    excuse me, can I ask but when I build it like you, the red LED flashed 4 time, the blue LED flashed 5 time, but when I measure with OSCILLOSCOPE it's the same frequency (5 time), so how can I make it the flashes with equal time, red 5, blue 5 ? thank you so much

    1.Instead of those LEDs and change to bigger clusters value of 360watts to 500watts?
    2. Can there be 2 mode option like a steady mode no blink?

    Hey bro, I made this circuit but one set of LED is blinking 3 times at once as shown in the video but the other set is continue glowing instead of blinking. But the interval occurs between two sets of LED, just one set is blinking while the other set is continuing.
    So plz tell me what's wrong with my circuit??

    • @elonics
      @elonics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, try temporarily disconnecting the set of LED's blinking correctly and see if the other set blinks okay now. If the connected set of LED's blink as expected now, it means that there might be an issue with the way you connected the series resistor. You may recheck all the connections.

    • @stretchie
      @stretchie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Agent_Grignard did you figure out what it was, mine is the same.
      One set of leds blinks three times, then the second set does a long flash then it all repeats.
      The only thing I can see different between the wiring of the teo 555's and leds are the capacitor sizes. I have tried changing those for different value ones and that does affect the amount of time.the blinks happen for, however, I did use two electrolytic capacitors, but both of the correct rsting as oer the video as I don't have any ceramic ones

      I have the same problem. And after examining the circuit a bit. I think there is a flaw in the design. Depending on the current draw of the set of LED's that the anode is connected to the 100nF 555 side, the timing will change to constantly on, because the 100nf capacitor never has a chance to fully charged during the cycle. So lowering the current through the LED may do the trick. (but I want the LED to be bright. Or setup some transistor to take the load off)

    You could have at least made the flashing slower. People that are sensitive to flashing lights might suffer.
