Here we are with another Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate showdown video, this time giving you a bunch of gameplay tips that will help you with the game! VF is pretty in depth and sometimes you can skip over some of the "obvious" stuff, and sometimes certain things are not obvious at all so hopefully this can help you out in your VF journey!
More VF content coming in the next few days as well! Also will be streaming VF Ultimate showdown later tonight on the twitch channel, my first stab at online! Around 7pm EST will be going live, maybe a bit earlier if I can get some free time! Wolf? Vanessa? Taka maybe? Who knows yet cause I don't!
As someone who played VF5 Online as a kid on the Xbox 360…then wondering why nobody really talked about this game anymore because of the other fighting games that surfaced, I’m super excited to get back into it and welcome newcomers alike.
I had genuinely no idea how much of VF's DNA is in DOA and seeing as that's the only game i've been even barely competent at I'm hoping that makes the transition a bit smoother. now it's totally no wonder that four VF characters made it to 5
I don't know about Tekken but DOA is 100% inspired by VF. The similarities are plentiful. Not surprising since both Itagaki and Yu Suzuki are pretty good friends. Harada on the other hand...
If I'm not mistaken, the first DOA in arcades ran in Sega's Model 2 cabinets and either used the same engine of VF 2 or something similar 'cause Tecmo told good old Itagaki-san to make their own Virtua Fighter.
As an aspiring Wolf player the throw explanations was incredibly useful. The throw game in VF is so interesting and different from my normal King stuff in Tekken 7.
This game is so refreshing. It feels like ages a fighting game released without comeback mechanics. Kids i really reccomend this game to y'all. It's very technical and rewarding and the online experience is pretty solid. Give it a chance especially if you're burned out from Tekken.
Yeah IKR, like I love Guilty Gear and I knew they always had those Destruction OHKO, but in XRD you have Hell Fire and Burst Overdrives that can wipe out your enemy no matter if they were dominating in the beginning, and since VF is more like playing your opponent than the characters on screen you can still turn the things around by guessing their moves and counter or maybe a ring out but still it's all in the skill and knowledge and not just becuase you exploit some mechanincs with a simple input.
Funny thing: Virtua Fighter isn't the only fighting game where a majority of lows are negative on hit. It's also like this in Soulcalibur. To my knowledge, Tekken is the odd one out in 3D fighters where lows are often plus to some capacity on hit.
That doesn't really hold true for Soul Calibur. It, of course, dependes on the SC we're talking about. But there are quite few lows, that are insanely plus on hit. For instance: SC2 Nightmare Side Knight Stance A is a low with a hefty frameadvantage. SC2's Raphael's generic 2K is the odd one out of all generic 2Ks being plus on hit. SC2 Taki jumping B,B is a mid, low. The low being so plus it opens the opponent up for her CH tools when they try to retaliate after getting hit.
This is basically my first VF game, and MY GOD it is incredible! I am definitely sticking with this series, and I will definitely get the DLC, so I can support this series. The only problem is that I can’t play super often ATM because I’m juggling the last of my schoolwork with the game. Thankfully, I only have 4 school days left, so soon I can play the HELL out of this.
I'm already labbing Goh Hinogami and his throw game. I must say, I really like this game. I'm not good at or used to 2D fighting games so another 3D fighter is exactly what I needed. Tekken is still my 1st love though haha. Great video yo!
As a Goh main myself, get proficient with his parry to grab. I've won a few matches against punch spammers. Made people afraid to attack. Forward kick for his knee is good. On counter hit you can do your crouch grab after. And his elbow forward punch is fast, safe, and a good check.
A tip for beginners not in the tutorial, but critical for some optimal combo damage is “crouch dash cancelling ”. It allows you to instantly perform while rising attacks. Instead of holding down, crouch dash forward or backwards and finish the command of the move. Akira 33P, 6KP, hold2 6PP This combo cannot be performed if you use while rising moves the standard way. You must crouch dash cancel. 33P, 6KP, 336PP
Decided to go back to my roots with grapplers this game and play wolf he defiantly is the most standard grapplers I've seen in recent years with good throws and bad pokes but feels good in a weird tradition way
I'm so freaking happy you're making these videos. I'm eating them up! I'm new to fighting games, I only started in April of 2020, so VF5US is the first fighter I've experienced from launch. Honestly I was pumped from the first teaser in September and I freaked out when they announced the release date one week in advance. But the reception seemed lukewarm then and now, I was afraid no one would make this type of content on it. I can't stress how great these have been to watch!
Great video and thank you for it! For anyone wondering about the net code, I have average East Coast USA net code and played about 50 matches yesterday, only had like three or four of them be horrible lag on the level of soul Calibur or something. Otherwise the connection feels strong every match!
As stated around 17:45 on weight changing combos, for Sarah players, 1-K into 66K+G is much more consistent on Taka because you don't have as tight a window for the animation, netting that damage more often.
Super excited to bust some heads and get some hatemail as the man Wolf, never played this series before but he seems like even more of the “wrestler” fantasy than King or Armor King!
The throw part was really useful for me, I got so used to DOA that I was trying to strike my way out of them, but ofc, since throws are faster than any strike that would never be the case and also there is no Hold button here, so no input for a counter throw because as you said, here is not reaction based but more guessing based so you gotta see the play pattern of your opponent and passively tech them.
People sleeping on how hype Aoi is in this game. She has counters for almost every situation, she has command throws that lead to more command throws, set-ups into auto parry, and strike throws. Will definitely need to get in some practice and chain throw the crap out of people while I still can. Then it's just learning how to play with her movement and stance changes like a civilized person.
Hey, I picked her up too! She doesn't seem like a newbie-friendly character, and considering I've barely played any VF games outside of a few short stints many _many_ years ago... Not a problem! :P
@@Galiaverse she's definitely not beginner friendly I think lol. I'd say neither are Akira or Vanessa. My Jean seems to be VERY beginner friendly and I'm climbing Dan ranks even though the last time I played VF it was on the Sega Saturn lol

Jeffery being the tallest guy in the game does not make him combo fodder (hell as a heavyweight he actually is harder to combo), it makes him really good at stuffing out approaches from shorter characters like in real martial arts.
That last tip is exactly what I needed. I wanted to get some jabs after a certain launcher and this makes things MUCH easier. I was trying to delay my punch online so I wouldn't finish the string and that felt impossible

Thanks for all your tips, they've helped me a lot even if I played Vf4 back in the day. Unfortunately the game seems to have failed to take off where I live. It's saturday and I managed to get two sets in 15 minuters. I'll try again later but I'm getting flashbacks to when I bought DBFZ.

I hope to see the overconfident self ring out plenty online ty for that. Soulcalibur players rise up
Mind doing a guide on Akira's 1frame knee input? I don't have any trouble what-so-ever doing it on DOA5, but it seems like a completely different beast on this game.
I'd love to but I can't, I can do it like 1/15 tries myself. Only thing is heres exactly what the game wants. Press K+G together(no sloppy input allow by hitting one before the other), and then let go of guard exactly 1 frame after pressing it.
Where's the rest of the Lau Lot? Represent!
Want this on PC so bad
