DIY Jeep Gladiator OEM 115V Bed Power Outlet Install

  • **Requires on-board inverter to follow these steps**
    I have a brand new-to-me Jeep Gladiator Mojave and I would have much preferred to be out in the desert putting her to the test, but I'm still under doctor's orders of no off-roading so we're going to do the next best thing and work on the Mojave.
    In this video we're going to be installing the Mopar OEM equipment for the 115V bed outlet. I chose to go with OEM because I thought the install was pretty simple and the Jeep was already setup for the outlet, at least for the most part.
    The other reason I wanted to do this video is because I hadn't seen anyone on TH-cam using the JScan tool, which for me was the lowest-cost option. The other options out there are using the Tazer that costs around $400, or a trip to the local dealer that would have cost me well over $100 to program the onboard computer to activate the outlet switch.
    Thank you for watching :)

    Wow.. this is a lot of work just to add the factory Mopar outlet. I appreciate the video in helping me decide to take an alternate route. I think I will just wire a 12v outlet to the plastic panel in the trunk and then wire directly to the battery. I just need power for a charging my charging station, powering up some speakers or charging my phone. Basically, tailgating power.

    Okay, wow that took me way too long to do. Super stoked about it though. Worked as advertised. All, this video is like 1 year old so dont expect the prices to be as mentioned. With inflation the price was about 50-100 more. Still worth it though considering you get a factory setup. A little advise now, first the white and red pull out tabs on the connectors is the first step to removing the connector. To disconnect lightly squeeze the pulled out part and pull the connection apart. Trust me, they don’t just pull out after accidentally de-pinning one of them. Secondly, as you see in the video he cut a zip tie attached to the wire behind his light control panel to access the needed wire and connector for the new inverter button/switch to plug into. Pretty sure that Jeep doesn’t want us doing this mod and has now hid the wire and connector behind the speaker. Take a deep breath before tackling this. Took about two hours to cut the tape wrapped around the wire being bunched with the main wire and fish out the needed plug for the new switch. Know that it is there just not easy to see or access. Three, the speaker cannot be removed to access the wire without removing the whole dash frame. Don’t waste time trying to get it out. Four, remove the drivers door completely helps a ton. Five, get a 7mm wrench. There are many screws just out of reach for sockets drills etc. Props to the creator, video and research was spot on for the wholistic point. Good luck all. You can and will do it.

    Thanks I did mine and unfortunately for my Jeep the plug was way back behind where yours was but it was there. I also noticed when ordering the parts that the screws for the bed plug were like $2/3 bucks a piece so I just used the extra screws from taking the bezel apart. All in all it was a simple mod..way easier than some of the others I have done. Thanks again for taking the time to put this together 👍

      Thanks to @PlanItSendIt and @rambokd for these instructions and tips. My '23 Mojave had the cable hidden way behind the speaker box, so I initially went into a panic until I read further into the comments. I would like to add that Crutchfield has a video that describes how to remove the speaker box by loosening the frame bolts along the bottom. That was the magic sauce that allowed me to get the speaker box out of the dash, and access the inverter cable with my big fat hands. Also, I cannot stress enough that a 7mm combo wrench made the job doable. I'm not sure how you'd accomplish this without it.

    You can also use a Solar Controller for 105.00 that will cut off power to bed outlet when battery reaches 11.5v So you can still start the Jeep if you run it a while... Also the Tazer I consider a must have. Tires, LEDs, Ratios, AutoStart annoyance... It just makes since to buy the Tazer.

    That seems like alot work to just add the wiring and outlet to the bed,
    due to covid mine is also missing the inverter, literally has the option on the build sheet, then at the bottom - delete inverter...
    will probably go with a bigger inverter and wire it myself directly to the battery.
    Nice vid, I thought taking my JKU dash apart was bad....

    • @PlanItSendIt
      @PlanItSendIt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I completely understand. I don't know what adding the inverter entails since mine had it, but others have suggested it isn't difficult. Still, it wouldn't have been as easy of a decision for me also. I figured this could run a fridge and charge batteries, so once I need more juice, like yourself, I'll add more power and place it exactly where I want it.

  • @KoShuFW
    @KoShuFW ปีที่แล้ว +4

    clean install, but there was a reason I did not opt in for this as i got mine built from the factory. Had that inverter in '16 sahara and it was useless. Frankly speaking I am considering just running 2 wires from the battery as small gage as possible and installing a custom 12V outlet, so not limited to the junk inverter. In any case why limit yourself, mostly for me it is charging battery in the back in my ATV or trolling batteries, so ~14v from alternator is perfect. Will need something for my lifepo4 trolling battery to keep the voltage at 13.7 but that is easy. Also makes air for off-roading much easier and portable. Just need to do be smart about it and separate this circuit from the rest so not to burn your jeep if something gets shorted out or overly demanding applications... Potential to add a second (3rd and 4th) battery for when you need it. Now this makes me think the GTs bed is not big enough for all the toys :-). BTW if I was working for Jeep I would start offering a cheaper option with 12V outlet.

    • @PlanItSendIt
      @PlanItSendIt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I may go with additional options once I find the need, but so far I've been fortunate that the oem option has covered my needs so far.

    • @KoShuFW
      @KoShuFW ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @PlanItSendIt i have seen other videos where they do solar and 12v marine outlet in the bed. I do not see any point in solar as it is dismal and expensive as they do it, but running a 10 ga from the fuse box on 20 amp line with a low voltage disconnect will cost few $ vs 400$ in your case. $400 can buy a very nice inverter. If you connect solar panels to the same, it will charge your car batteries as well unless there is a diode protection in place.
      Editing....
      Maybe 4 gage, it's a long run. Someone fix this 4 me 😆

My only problem, was when I went to connect the power hardness to the inverter switch, there was not any other wiring hardness attached to the headlight hardness.
