    This is a perfect opportunity for a third party company to make metal counterweights for the crane, as well as a light kit and even a boom extension kit that includes lengthened strings.

    • @MrKlawUK
      @MrKlawUK ปีที่แล้ว +10

      wonder if they could have considered putting the battery boxes/hubs at the back and enclosing them with disguise pieces to look like a counterweight block - also save money on those blocks. Boom extension may still stress the motor even with more counterweight stopping it tipping. Would be curious to see some Mocs - should be straightforwards to experiment with although maybe expensive if you brick link those trusses...

    It has some clever design solutions, no doubt about it, but there is some discussion about whether this really looks like a Liebherr. The wider tracks would have fitted the scale better, and the boom/jib combination chosen for this set apparently doesn't actually exist in real life. Might have been better to just release this as "fantasy" crane, drop the licence fees, and have a more reasonable value for money ratio.
    Regarding the issues with this set, someone suggested, looking at the set number, this was intended for 2022 release, but got delayed due to issues. And in the end, got released 95% finished basically. That could explain some of its problems, and maybe they had to increase the price because of the extra time that went into its development, due to the problems.

    Could you take a Dremel and hollow out some of the counterweights and put in chunks of lead or lead fishing sinkers to increase the weight of them? I might try that when I finish the build and play with it a bit. Perhaps some water soluble white glue could mitigate the problem with the counterweights falling off and coming apart, and can be removed, should one have a change of heart.

    I disagree with whose who say this doesn’t look good but although I’m really impressed by the technical solutions I can’t find aaaaaany reason for this to cost 700€. It’s crazy. Someone (Sariel) said that at least without the Liebherr licence (which it’s useless as it doesn’t represent any of the possible configurations of the real crane) it could have been cost a little less, but it would have still been overpriced. the pricepoint and authenticity is a total dealbreaker for me, lego technic flagships are supposed to be challenging but fun, like for example lego 42100 or 42114, which were both jam packed with functions, i fail to see any difference with this and 42042 which is actually more advanced due to it's gearbox, then you have 42100 (also under Liehberr branding mind you) which had twice the amount of pieces and a more diverse and bigger motor selection (at 7 motors as opposed to 6) for only a little over half the price as 42146, I can't conceivably say this a good deal by any metrics but thanks for your input on this set

    Throw out two of the motors, and insert a gearbox which one motor drives the function and one motor switches the function, you could lose one of the hubs as well. Then it will be a good set and I might pick it up when it hits 250 euro.

    I disagree with your assertion that putting an actual weight in the app instead of a relative load "is actually a very easy program to make". Putting a hook weight on it would depend on it knowing the current angles of the boom and the jib, as well as the amount of counterweights. counterweights would be easy because you could tell the app how many are on, but the app would need some kind of sensor to determine the angles of boom and jib.

    I wonder if you could try removing the support balls since they end up dragging along the ground. Derrick ballast wasn’t added probably due to the derrick mast itself being too short, meaning that a counterweight tray cannot be hanged vertically.

    Considering I could buy an rc one for cheaper and make modifications to it later for little to nothing, 700 is a bit much for a lot of people especially when it comes down to determining its functional value over other important expenses.

    yeah no, the pulley system is impressive but its not faithful to any version of the Liebherr 13000. the boom is different/out of scale to any variation. and the counterweight is wrong. on top of the fact that it just isnt detailed enough to be worth 700 dollars. the titanic model is a little over 700 dollars, its very detailed, but has no functions. the CAT D11 set costs less, is more faithful, and is more detailed.

    7,36 true. also bad is the fact that the whole crane tilts like crazy. there should be more counterweits on a platform behind the crane. So that only the hub lifts up within limits of the tilt mechanism.
    The whole crane moving being part of the design is odd.

    I also think they chose to go with fewer, larger frame parts for strength. Using lots of smaller parts would cause the superstructure to flex more
