My second wife came from a filipino family in the San Francisco Bay area. They were a very strict, traditional family. My wife passed in her sleep a couple of months ago but if she hadn't I'm sure we'd have had another 30-40+ years together. All the girls in her family were very sheltered from the bad parts of modern society, Catholic schools, no make up, no dating, all that. So she was a very kind, gentle, traditional lady who was always full of giggles and fun. We only raised our voices at each other once in 20 years and it was about something so small and stupid that I don't even remember what it was. We laughed about it afterwards. Good women are still out there, but they are much fewer and farther between.
sorry you lost your asawa, i lost mine in sep 2023. it is a struggle, but if you ever need to chat, let me know. i was with my wife for 18 years, raised her three girls as my own. i don’t think i will ever find anyone as good as her, but for the kids sake, they still need a dad to help guide them thru their young adult lives, and look out for the predators. Stay strong, which i know is hard as i struggle daily with it.
Great video. Having been an expat in Asia before and having a Filipina wife of 17 years, i can attest to the veracity of this video. The Pea is absolutely telling the truth. Living in the Philippines isn't exactly easy, especially for type A individuals. What is expensive in the West is also (more) expensive over there with a few exceptions. Unless someone is extremely well traveled and familiar with local conditions in the Philippines, please think twice before uprooting your life to move over there. It is not the paradise you imagine it to be. Also, dont make the mistake of thinking you will be upgrading a western middle class lifestyle for an upper class wealthy lifestyle over there. Most homes in the desirable areas are well over $1 million USD. If you are broke at home, you wont be much better off over there.
That's correct. The ph has no infrastructure, no trains, the roads are falling apart, the airlines don't run on time and you are surrounded by poverty and corruption. Plus, you are often viewed as the "enemy" "a foreigner" and a walking ATM. Plus, there's a constant threat of violence, kidnapping for ransom and guns are everywhere.
@wolfthequarrelsome504 Very much correct. The walking ATM part drives me nuts. There is an unscrupulous form of entitlement over there that just because you are a Westerner, you have more money and are obligated to pay triple the normal price. It's gross. Westerners get in big trouble over there as they are working with an expectation of fairness common in Western cultures that simply doesn't exist over there. You are an outsider and are ripe for the picking. The infrastructure is horrible (if it even exists), not to mention the constant threat of tropical diseases (dengue fever) or a terrible bout of food poisoning because someone left food unrefrigerated or was picking their nose before handling your food. I was laid up in the hospital for days in the PH due to food poisoning. Lastly, the constant simple mistakes and poor processes drive so much inefficiency that it is maddening. That is why nothing is ever done on time. One can even go so far as to show someone how to do it a better way ( the process should be A, B, C not B, C , A) and the person will just look at you like you don't know what you are talking about and continue with their botched process. The old saying of "can't fix stupid" is very applicable.
I am 63 yr old and always cook for myself now I just live off fruits and vegetables diet and fish if I feel like it. Keep your self clean within you will stay well for a long long time. It will be easy for me I was in the military and traveled overseas. And I learned yrs ago how to live cheaply and economically. 😊
It's doable. I've been here in the Philippines 16 months already, and although the transition from the states has been challenging it feels more like home everyday. She's right. You have to be adaptable to the culture and of course the climate. The heat alone will test your will. I'm fortunate to have been married to a Filipina for almost 32 years now and had been here on vacation 5 times so I had that advantage.

The prices have already gone up. You also cannot own a property in the Philippines as a foreigner except for commercial property. Moreover the more people flock to the Philippines, the higher the prices gets for everything. Yes you have also be aware of the fluctuations in the exchange rate between the country you're from and the Philippines .
Correction, you cannot own land in the Philippines but you can buy a condo and a house if you lease the land. There is a loophole to owning land tho, that's buying the land through you're business. You'll have to go through the process of starting and incorporating a business in the Philippines and moving properties into it. The only caveat to this is you are only allowed to own 40% of the business and a filipino must own the other 60%. I guess this option is better than having 0% ownership of the property. Concerning fluctuations in the currency, if you are receiving your income in a currency other than dollars or whatever your native currency is then I highly recommend keeping half of your savings in pesos and the other half in your country's currency. This will act as a hedge and keep your cost from soaring due to currency fluctuations but it can also work against you by keeping your cost from falling if your currency strengthens against the peso, so keep that in mind.
@@deadcell1Yes you can own an individual condo as long as the whole building is at least owned 60/40 or more in favour of Filipino citizens. When I enquired about this in Cebu they said so many Filipinas are buying to rent out that it wasn't an issue.
@@deadcell1 Yes foreigners in PH can own condos however unlike lands (which foreigners can't own) condos don't significantly increase in value over time PH is truly not the ideal country for foreigners to settle foreigners in PH have very limited rights foreigners can obtain PH citizenship if born & raised in PH like the prominent Spanish Ayala family which is not the case of foreign expat newcomers Yes foreigners in PH can own homes but not the land & the foreigner can be evicted if the Fil. landowner doesn't renew the rental contract Filipinos in general are not racist but the PH gov. is
Prices have gone up mostly in areas where immigrants flock and flaunt their 'wealth'. Out in areas where there are very limited numbers of immigrants, prices are extremely affordable. We spend $1400 a month on bills (rent, car, food, insurance, phones, lights, water), our budget is $3000. $600 of that $1400 is the car note. As far as owning land goes, as long as my wife can own it, I am good... She should have ownership in her country.. She has worked her butt off and put up with me for 10 years. Again, it is pretty much the immigrant/foreigner/expat heavy areas where prices and drama is increasing.
I have been watching the Pea forever. She shares information in a respectful way. She has a delightful sense of humor and paints, a realistic picture of the Philippines.
I had a filipina girlfriend when I was in my early 20.....Best girlfriend ever! The house was clean and food was served everyday when I came home from work 😏 even if it was at 3 am.....
Good to see you checking out Phillipina Pea that's my girl. Been watching her for years. She even have vids on the "passport bro" movement. Keep dropping good content - bless up 🇯🇲
I have interacted w pea personally about advice. She's great. My Filipina came from Dubai and has rocked my world known her for 4 years now. She's pretty special
Great video my 7th year in SE Asia. I only hang out with locals here on Philippines 🇵🇭. I love it and am very happy . Whatever happens is fine with me . I’ve been traveling for 30 years and never returned to the USA 🇺🇸. Life is fantastic.
This episode was so funny! Reminds me of living in Africa (Ghana to be specific) talking about bureaucracy especially with government agencies, no urgency in getting anything done, have to grease people's palms for services that are obligatory etc.If you are time conscious and want everything done on time and in sequence saying thank you alone is not enough. It has to be accompanied with some dough. Trust me it is my motherland but you can't live there without adapting to the culture. 😂😂. Peace ✌
No place is "nirvana." People go to the nice places and turn it into the place they were "escaping" from. They don't acclimate to the place they are going, they try to change it to they place they just left.
To all the men considering moving to the Philippines, please exercise caution and common sense. I've had a good experience overall but you still need to keep your head on your shoulders.
I tried to move overseas to teach English. Although I loved the culture n good. You get tired of noodles and american food is way more expensive. We're talking $8 for a box of cereal
@@JB-tz8fu $8 ?? For cereal? 😏. I have noticed as well that some food items can be on the pricey side. My guess is because they are imported. Rent and Food are the most expensive items here.
@@allen9129 That being said, there are work arounds / budget friendly options for both food & rent. You still need to be making a certain amount to live comfortably though. Know what I mean?
I've been here since 2017 and I still convert in my head like you said. You are so right if it's expensive for locals is expensive for you thank you for this informative video.

My favorite is walking into an SM and having 5 very eager employees help me find something they don't have with each one telling me they don't have it. I asked God to help me with my patience and he sent me to the Philippines. After 19 months I'm a better man for it, and even at age 63 I've found out a lot about myself thanks to the kindest, most gracious people I've ever known. I'll give you a recent example, SIARGAO, foreigners flock the Island and now the prices are shit even locals can't afford to buy on commercial centers.
The Filipina Pea is an excellent local vlogger with entertaining and relevant info for expats and those thinking of moving here. And you’re a good man for mentioning and endorsing her.
The bottom line is be sure to pack your brain 🧠. So many people leave their brains behind when traveling. Whether it be for vacation or permanently relocating be prepared.😮😊
What you said about the Cayman Islands is exactly what happened here in Bermuda. What compounds the problem is the small size and the little that's produced locally. Financially It's definitely not a place to retire. 😢
This is an excellent video of my friend. You did a great job with this video and use the Filipino woman to explore and tell Passport Bros or other men who think they're going to go to another country and have a better life than the West and some can. But most will not you're absolutely right. This video makes me appreciate where I live. I love where I live and I take nothing for granted. I don't take my life for granted. That's in mind when you go to those more great video. Love the video.
I can relate to everything she is saying I moved to Ghana 18 years ago faced all the same problems but I did my research had the right skill sets too be independent for most services. I am a multi skilled trades man I drew my own plans for my house, supervised and participated in building my own house including solar system, water tanks, air-conditioning, garden landscaping and contacts too assist with shipping all the stuff I needed to build my house such as electrical wiring, lighting and so on. The one big mistake I made was I brought my then wife from the UK 😢😢😢 second biggest mistake was marry a local woman after.
its always the fee males that will F ur reitrement up, its a worldwide epidemic, and there no way to 'choose better' , things can change 10 years later, so dont blame urself, but if u do it again then thats on you
Hi Paul.... You are one terrific guy and really enjoyed your video. I will be watching more. Thank you for taking the time to discuss these important issues that most dont think about. I already know things would be much less in many ways, and with your video I am even more aware and will have to plan appropriately. Be well, and God Bless!
I've been in the Philippines for four months after spending a month at the Monarch Hotel! I love it here and will not return to Virginia to live. Some of the issues the young lady raised in the video are quite true! Traffic is slow as is fast food. Lol I am considering moving to Thailand because marijuana is legal there. I can use marijuana for my back pain, my mood and to eat more!
Sorry to burst your bubble..but Thailand is currently changing the laws again about marijuana and making it illegal again.. they have found that making it legal is causing too many problems on their roads .. mainly from young foreign males who have been getting stoned then trying to ride motorbikes/scooters.
I gotta say, I don't know how you ended up in my video feed all of a sudden, but I'm glad you did. Watching this video was great and I am a MEMBER of the Philippina Pea's channel and really love her and the advice she gives. You will be well served to dig deeper into her videos any time you are interested in Philippine content. As for you, you had a great presence and voice. The advice you gave in relation to what the Pea was saying was perfect and spot on! I am now a new subscriber!
If you do come, make sure to go to the Ex-Pat bars and drum up conversation with the local foreigners to learn the pitfalls before you even plan to marry a local.
Side note if a war breaks out over there you will have a hard time trying to get out of there and the powers of be are beating the war drums as we speak!! Just saying something to consider too!!👌🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Hahaha funny i am a filipina living abroad for 37 yrs and everytime i go home i am stressed because of the low paced and i don’t have patience anymore. It seems like forever before you can have what you want or where to go. Only the noise i am still immune to it hahahaha because we Bisaya talk very loud as if we are in an argument but it is normal to us…My husband and i are really planning to retire in the Philippines and thank you Lord my husband is a very patient person…he is the one who calmed me everytime hahahaa….Have a nice day sir!
Well said as always, truly older men do have wisdom that is worth listening 🎧 too with a calm way of speaking while still passing a very important message that drives home the point.😊
Flight time 16 -23+ hours You have to find out what city you want to love in. Manila, cebu etc. Just make sure you do your research. O have been there about 12 times. You need about $2000 min a month.
I fully appreciate what you say about research. From what I’ve seen about Dubai it just looks so characterless. I come from Devon in England and love the natural vegetation, the coastline and historic buildings. Giggly little girls would drive me mad. I suppose I better stay in the U.K. and see what turns up later. Nonetheless, it’s been interesting listening to you. I’m just concerned about my grandsons and who they might have to choose from when it comes to their time.
Thanks so much for sharing this video Paul. I am a passeport sister but learner tons. What she says applies to the African continent. My plan is to be able to live 3 to 4 months each year in Togo, in West Africa. My mother and fiance were born there. There are so many adjustments to do each time I go there. I am enjoying spending time there. I went there 3 times last year, each of my journeys were 4 to 6 weeks. Although I am African I was born in Europe so it takes time to adjust to the culture.
She's right on all the points. I left the US in 21, my first stop was Mexico, then when restrictions eased, Thailand, after that, back to Mexico, where I am now. Mexico is a good way to prepare you for the Philippines. There are dogs, roosters, and other noise sources, vendor's loudspeakers blaring, bands at all hours.... 🙄 Then there's the crazy traffic, which, after driving in Thailand will make driving in Mexico seem like child's play. Oh, and the rules and red tape, lines, etc., it all varies from state, to state. Honestly, for me it was almost impossible to research all of these details. Even in expat the areas some of this bleeds through, AND, then you have to deal with the same thing you mentioned in the Caymans, increasing prices. Every country has it's good and bad points, be sure they don't conflict with your lifestyle, or personality type.
My son married a Pilipana (my son went to serve in the Army for 6 years) so he brought over a friend from the pilia she was here with no family or friends…my heart went to her and offered my home since my son was going away …she was a nurse….They were not together , but being a mom I felt sorry for her still learning English. They ended together and 26 years married…she was discovered her playing dirty on him the last 4 years of their marriage. He is stacked with her…so the country girls from pilipina have their secrets. Girls, from there can become corrupt via friends they make on their jobs. They can be even more problematic.
All nurses cheat, I use to do HVAC at a hospital, no matter what race in that field is safe. So many of them flirted with me who had rings on. It's true about Filipinas though, don't bring them here because they are easily influenced by bad Western women. Your son should have moved there because if she has a good man and he knows her family she will be shamed if she tries to cheat on her husband. Her mom and dad will disown her. Her siblings will not talk to her, she will be left alone and many women don't want this.
Saw your video last nite with the 3 ladies from the PI. Loved your content, we think exactly alike when it comes to Western women vs the rest of the world. The Filapina Pea has a great channel and is always spot on in her observations and recommendations. Don't buy a car before you drive it and don't move ANYWHERE you haven't been to before. Keep up the good and realistic work.
I agree, of course it did a great-great sales pitch. Look how young they look, slim and skinny. And most of the men who go over there aren't there 4 to 7 50s, and not the fact they do look good for their age. The downside is like I said. Before they draw you in, so they can take your money and let you support their families. In most cases, not all cases, so if you're men choose to go to the Philippines, do your homework fast. I personally don't need to go over there. I have a good woman in the West, but for those men who can't get women in the West or don't want a woman in the West, we're very careful when you go to these countries cause these women have cameras have TH-cam channels big channels too with 200000 subscribers. So I know what's going on and they're taking advantage of the situation right now. So be very said before there are women don't want them. Just like China, they have left over women in the 20s, it works both ways.
I love this video I am young single Afro American living in Ecuador happily since 2020. I could identify with all the things she mentioned in the video. I work online . I think some of us from Western countries don't think abt all these things but just look at the price tag of cost of living in the country we wont to move to. .Also one should think abt saving extra money to return home or to another country because after 5 to 10 years after the honeymoon is over or maybe your circumstances change in your personal or family life you move need or want to move again
Wow foreigner wanted to moved to Philippines to do vlogs to make money From TH-cam ! And to connect to these available Filipina girl who is also looking for foreign men for Money ! ( Not all Filipina women are like that ) but there are some because of poverty or influence by the Material things they see and wanted to have ! Greed is also an influence! ! So Be Very Careful too !
Progress cost money, Pea is very correct and has a very evenhanded approach to the west and east, her perspectives are spot on after living in pinas for some time now. she’s a real Trekkie and a joy to watch. Cheers
Filipinas can make expert scammers. Their best method is .... Wait. After a year you won't believe why you have no money. Money isn't everything... Sure. But it's a lot. You need to get value with justice. Not just nice words.
This is very true when I moved to the Philippines I had the mind set to live as a Filipino eat their food no matter how extreme the food is when in Rome do as Roman’s never convert your money that is the fastest way to go broke. Example I bought a book 1,500 php or 25 usd at the time after a year of living in the Philippines I saw the book again I asked my wife why you let me buy this book it’s so expensive she said it’s your money I can’t tell you what to do with it. 1,500 php is 2 weeks worth of food. Most definitely have a plan put in place before going to the Philippines or any other country. Know the city’s cost 5 to 10x’s as much then the provinces know if bar hooping and red light districts you won’t find them in the provinces the people are extremely conservative.
I've moved to Israel almost a year ago (not getting into politics). 1) Its absolutely true that you give up something to gain something. Besides Family, i changed Security for Economics and Culture. 2) Adapting to culture is way easier to me than a regular expat, i'm jewish and my choice was to make a family in a jewish culture. If that wasn't my case i would never come here, i still have to adjust to a lot of things, like banks, buses, and a lot more of differences, not to mention i've never met a muslim before i came. 3) You need to be sure about your communication skills in your destination. 4) You need to take savings, this will cost a lot of money. Ive seen people come in dire straits and it's not nice, don't rush, plan everything.
I'm Filipina she's talking too much scaring you to come in Philippines.. Not all Filipino will tell you that's expensive to the or not because we have different life
Tours Transportation Fix it Pharmaceutical/natural remedies Classes Car repairs shop Plumbing Solar panel installation Just a few businesses that it sounds might work based on her speech ..go for it guys!
Where did you visit? I have cable TV. 800MBPS fiber internet connection. Two vehicles. Most everything else, that I would have in other countries. What amenities were you missing?
That's a bit like saying that the UK has excellent transport with its lots of Tube trains, busses, taxis just because you have visited London... some of the rest of the UK is lucky to have a couple of buses a day. The house I rented in Tacloban last year had Internet speed of around 220Mbs with a big shopping mall 5 mins walk away, no problems with water, electricity etc.

I was born in southern England met a women from Northern Ireland. Not much difference there you may think. Yes there’s a cultural difference. Something to think about. The cultural differences. We married we moved to Northern Ireland. At the end of the troubles. That was a big cultural difference for me. People I met thought of was an ex soldier. (If you no you no). Then we eventually moved to Australia. Another change cultural difference My advice go for a long holiday maybe two. Don’t do to much tourist stuff. Go shopping the normal every day stuff. Talk to locals about living in that country. Do your own studying. There’s plenty of videos out there to help
It's not always the case. They may be really poor who cannot afford anything. Maybe even eating in a fast food is expensive for them but it is very normal for you.
I love the Philippines but due to health (heart) issues it is quite risky. I am a sparkie so can build my own solar system and rainwater tanks solve water. I love the laid back lifestyle coming from a country town and would love to move. But remember, a foreignor cannot own land in the Philippinnes unless they inherit it. But you cannot inherit from a will. Your spouse must die intestate (no will) for you to inherit. If you do get land it must be in your partners name and make sure you have a lawyer draw up a lease from your spouse to you. Also a good idea for the lawyer to look over the purchase agreement as conveyancing is not the same as the west...
Even if you inherit the property from your intestate spouse, you are legally required to sell it within a short, reasonable period of time. You can own a structure on land, but not the land itself. Cheers.
Best advice ever. I traveled the world for 25 years. I am from Suriname originally. Now married to an Egyptian for 18 years. Have been coming to Egypt for 20 years. Now retired I have been living here for the last 2 years, what a different experience. My challenge, and I love it. I have experienced all political struggles in Egypt and learning how to adjust myself. Do not do it. If you do not have the balls, it is not for everyone.
lived in the Philippines for 13 years now. there are many cultural things that will not change in my life time or anyone else’s some good, some not so good. it is its own place. A lot has changed after the pandemic where most everyone participated in the medical intervention. So, if that is a concern, good luck finding anyone that didn’t participate. Many or most are Catholic, so if you are catholic or open to that, more likely you will find a mate.

I've watched Pea for several months. I wasn't planning to move outside my country (US), but I would like to visit other places. I like what you said about the difference between being a tourist and being a traveler. I don't consider myself a "passport bro", but I did find myself a wife outside the US. A friend of mine married someone from Indonesia, and I asked if she had a friend that would be interested. After a year of communicating with her, I flew there to meet her in person. I really enjoyed my visit there and plan to go back when I can. I also loved the food, and experiencing the culture. Of course, I only got to experience a small amount of it, but it was enough that I want to learn more about it.

@wolfthequarrelsome504
Very much correct.
@@Kitiwakeidk about that… maybe down South. But up North in Luzon thats not an issue

dude, that's 50 million pesos here. I've seen nice houses at 10-15 million.

Gentrification

No place is "nirvana." People go to the nice places and turn it into the place they were "escaping" from. They don't acclimate to the place they are going, they try to change it to they place they just left.

Philippines is the "MEXICO" of Asia!
NO legal judgment will EVER go in your favor there.

This is a great video. I am glad I saw this before I decided to leave the US
After 51 years of marriage, a judge finds out that he is not the biological father 🤣🤣🤣🤣 This is why many men are not getting married in the West.

My Filipina fiancee are considering living in Philippines, but the property issue is a concern. Good advise on property issues, thanks.
Even if you inherit the property from your intestate spouse, you are legally required to sell it within a short, reasonable period of time. You can own a structure on land, but not the land itself. Cheers.
salam from djbouti, u are doing a good job. congratulations
Thank you very much
Thank You Big Bro! The Sound advice is invaluable! Gratitude! #SALUTE
Any time
Best advice ever.
Hey man. I just wanted you to know I really like your content. Very good TH-cam channel. I've subscribed and liked. Very good.
I've seen It is video by p already. I enjoyed your commentary.
Two things you said really stood out to me as good love lessons
1. Spend your money like they spend their money.
2. The differentiation between a traveler and a tourist.
Wonderful insight thank you sir!
She's absolutely right, you must have a lot of patience if you're from the US. The further you live from a city or town the harder it is. The Philippines is still the best place for me to retire at 67
Yes sir. Thank for giving further unsights.
Great video. Love to hear your voice. Very soothing and confident. I appreciate your realistic review of The Filipina Pea's video "Don't Move to the Philippines". Have a Blessed Holy Week. God Bless.
Thank you so much!
Paul Elam of "An ear for men" Did a video warning that foreign women are not the answer. Having served in the Navy I can attest that unless one meets her halfway and respects her culture. Some relationships work well, many end in disaster
Well done, I'm a long-time subscriber of Pea's channel. She's not at all hard to agree with, eh? And like Pea, I enjoy your sense of humor.
Hey brother, that will be an awesome collaboration. Can't wait to see it. You're doing good in what you do. Keep blessing us with some straight up real talk. Much blessings your way.
I hear you! Many places in Canada has had the same happen, a condo in Toronto has gone from 380 000 to 5 000 000!
For the pleasure of freezing your butt off. Lol
Nice to get another perspective added to her video, which I had already seen before. I am glad that there is people to help people prepare and understand better before they make such major decisions.
I enjoy your channel Sir and your content. You're helping men. #thefilipinapea is also a great channel that's entertaining and has a comedic tone as well as information. Thanks 👍🏽
I truely like this guy. He is right on.
It's 1980 in the Filipines gentlemen. Don't get trapped in divorce court in 2030s and 2030s your American brothers who married in the 70s and 80s got trapped in the 90s and 00s.
Run! 😄 Don't be a B for anybody! LOL
Bro, 'spot on' man! But, I think you gotta let em' know again because I don't think they heard you!!! 😮🫢🤔
