The way they sing the song... It's like complete opposites. Lea's version is more like "I don't think so but there could be a chance..." while Kristin's version has got a sort of "go big or go home" attitude.
Plus that's a note I've only seen her add to the song, usually it ends with the first long "win" but she goes and adds a longer *and* higher "win" to blow everyone else out of the water.
She was just miming the song as they pre-record all songs in a studio... So Kurt's crying was fake, unless seeing Kristin pretending to sing makes him emotional.
If you watch their throats, they were singing (Kristin was, at least, it's a little hard to tell with Lea's hair around her neck). The version we hear was pre-recorded, but they were also singing "live".
they did meet in the 100th episode one but I could be wrong when shelby and april and gwenth paltrols(spelled that wrong) wheee trying to get glee back
You know we all think that wow this high school has some unusually great and eccentric singers(guest stars included) but jeez the musicians in the back ground at this school... flawlessly perform any random song or even some mashups these what must be some demanding students want. I can't imagine how stressful my band life would've been with this club at my school. Oh also Kristin Chenoweth... just wow... wow!
Usman Mir not to mention how Finn always jumped on the drums all the time while the bands drummer just had to stand there and wait for him to get off halfway through the song like... "Seriously Hudson?"
Kristin not only sings this amazingly, she’s still totally in character. As April she’s a loser, but always optimistic and sometimes unrealistic. That little “haha” sounds like an April thing to do. But deep down she knows she *is* a loser so there’s loads of hidden pain there.
That's what makes this the best cover of Liza's original performance in Cabaret. April was, is, always will be her own cheerleader, even to the point of delusion, because she knows no one else will hold her up so high. She knows she has every reason to doubt her own ability to thrive, but she lives for the next time she succeeds (even if it's just succeeding in trying). The problem is that it gets a little bit harder to believe every day. Liza's version is vulnerable in the slip of the veil between "Maybe this time" and "maybe not", but she gives it her all. Kristen's is vulnerable because we can see on her sleeve that she has no reason to believe in herself, there's no maybe about it, she knows what the loser gets because she got more than her fair share of it, and yet she goes on -- the intensity of her conviction and self-belief through it all **is** her vulnerability. And in the end, it's her greatest strength.
I just read that Kristin and 'Adele Dazeem' are getting back together to do another rendition of 'Wicked' as an anniversary tribute. What a treat. Those two are magic together.
The difference between Kristen and Lea (aside from the obvious vocals) is the delivery. Lea is singing the song. Kristen is giving a full on performance. From the facials to the movements and gestures. You can't help but to love her. Hands down my second favorite version (after the original of course)
And I give Lea serious props for her willingness to stand on a stage and sing with Kristen Chenoweth. I'm not throwing shade: Lea is fantastic, and she holds her own 100%--but holy cow, that must have been intimidating!
Right? Like her talent is unreal. And it's amazing that Lea can go toe-to-toe with her in a song like this. I would have been sooo intimidated if I was her. Hey, you're going to sing opposite Kristen Chenoweth in this episode! lol
Amy Obito I know. Trust me. She was lead in one of my favorite Broadway shows. But she's still a grasshopper compared to masters Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel. =)
this is the best cover glee produced, it is great. Probably because it is a Great broadway song from a great broadway musical sung by a great broadway actress.
What Kristin has is a ton of personality and the experience to put it to good use. She acts the song more, she laughs. Lea is a great singer but poor girl always looks like she's about to cry when she sings
Rachel’s voice is pretty, but for an alto she can’t seem to find her diaphragm and range, and she ends up cracking her voice and crooning more than singing. When the 5 ft dynamite Broadway star outdoes you, it’s time to go back to the basic breathing. The other one who kicks the heck out of arrogant Rachel is Idina Menzel. Their Poker Face duet showed the seasoned talent verses the temporary auto-tuned musical fad that is beautiful but not quite there.
This is my favorite version of Kristin singing this song. She's so completely in character, singing with whole heart and soul. And the song fits the character so perfectly. Just an astonishing joy to watch!
That has to be the best rendition of that song ever. The way she starts off reticent and unsure, but gradually builds confidence and emotion shows what a fabulous actor as well as a superb singer she is. I've heard her sing this many times, but it never fails to make the hair on my arms raise. Huge, huge talent.

robz yes because In the show the high schooler characters grow up and his character is already grown. Their hair matures and his stays the same to show the growth of the characters
Lea Michelle has a stunning voice. But I don't believe a word she sings, unlike with Kristin Chenoweth. Maybe it's life experience, maybe it's greater acting experience/skill, probably a combination of both.
Well she is playing the character of a shallow, insincere, teenager without worldy experience to put into her songs. Her performance of the song is, I believe, a fairly realistic interpretation of what a 17 year old could produce. Yes it lacks depth, but not because Lea lacks it but because Rachel does.

@@Ben-yj8ye Sometimes a show or a movie becomes a vehicle for a great performer. I don't think the Blues Brothers won any awards for screenwriting, but the fact that it captured so many incredible musicians and singers - many of whom are no longer with us (e.g., Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Cab Calloway, John Lee Hooker) - makes it well worth watching over and over. Personally, I don't feel like Rachel should've been singing this, mainly because we literally just got introduced to a new character and she deserves to have at least one solo. Like, come on. Stop giving Rachel the spotlight.
@@kerseyalejo3718 Because we wanted to enjoy April's performance. Not Rachel's. She sounded so much better, having Rachel interfere really didn't serve her.
Love to watch this every so often. Shows how far the cast has come over the years. But at this point in the show, you can really tell who has more experience in their craft. Kristin not only has technique but real emotion in her singing, timing and delivery. Glad I got to see her on stage!
Just, Kristin is an awesome performer, so much talent and emotion, she makes you feel what she's singing, the writers too, it helps knowing her background, it makes it more personal. Lea has a terrific voice too, those high notes, it's a hard song to sing.

Must be a decade since this performance and oh my gawd it still rocks my head!! Love Kristin and she just carried it so, like she was on the Broadway stage and we are in the audience gallery. For such a tiny little lady, she has lungs like a giant and she can sing her heart out! FANTASTIC video!
I think the way lea sings her songs there’s almost no emotion in the voice just dramatic hand gestures and facial expressions (somewhat) and she just sings the song like a cover but Kristen... the amount of emotion in her voice and how she plays the role and sings it’s legendary
I disagree. With this song specifically she’s still learning how to sing songs with emotion and depth. If you listen to my man you can see that she got a lot better in that aspect
I know I probably sound ridiculous, and many people won't take this performance seriously b/c of where it came from, but this might be one of my top 10 duets. It's OBJECTIVELY beautiful
I didn't like Glee that much, but I saw it through. I'd give the whole show a 10/10 because this was so good. Also my first experience of Kristen, what an absolute legend

I always loved it when Chenoweth was on Glee. She knocks it out of the park. Afterward the kids look stunned or in awe, lol.
It's so lovely seeing Lea get absolutely out -shined by this Broadway goddess.
Haha agree Kristin Chenoweth is the QUEEN of Broadway
Everybody is bagging on Michelle saying hat Kristen did so much better, Chenoworth is also more than two times her age with a lot more experience.
When I just listen I feel like Michelle did better but when I watch Kristen blew her out of the water
you do understand that kristin does different kinds of music like opera, theater, country. of course she'll be waaay better than the other girl.
i love me some lea. and kristin. wow haha sorry for the caps.
Jade Betz that’s not the point. She has more natural talent. You can hear the reverb fixing lea’s voice. Chenoweth would never need it
spartan2771 I think she's shit at performance. She looks like she's lip syncing, you hardly ever see bet Fucking teeth, and her body movements are Fucking bizarre.
No words! How can it get better than this!? Wow....what a talent and I can't stop listening and watching. And I love the scene of the rest of the group just sitting there with their mouths open.....ME TOO!!!
Chenoweth hits it out of the park.
Michele is still sitting on the bench.
Everyone's talking about Kurt's reaction but my girl Quinn is always smiling whenever someone has a flawless performance... Sis knows talent when she sees it😊😊😂
Lea is fantastic, but Kristin was just BORN to perform
glee just never gets old... each and every time I watch clips/episodes I feel that same rush of joy tbh
Personally, I don't feel like Rachel should've been singing this, mainly because we literally just got introduced to a new character and she deserves to have at least one solo. Like, come on. Stop giving Rachel the spotlight.
Well, she's Rachel.
Why can’t y’all just enjoy the damn performance!??
@@kerseyalejo3718 Because we wanted to enjoy April's performance. Not Rachel's. She sounded so much better, having Rachel interfere really didn't serve her.
It wasn’t even that bad, it’s actually pretty good, amazing even. Kristin has a full version of the song on spotify soo why don’t u listen to that??
@@kerseyalejo3718I know she’s sung the song by herself before, I’m just talking about it story-wise.
My god, this is one of my favorite Kristen Chenoweth performances of all time.
same kurt...same
carmel calucer nn
That very last high note is freaking iconic.
Kurt crying is just adorable, can you not like this boy? Really cute.
That Cheno note at the end tho...
This should be used to teach every broadway actor why the same level of singing ability doesn't necessarily achieve the same outcome.
"Stick that in your pipe and smoke it" YASSS QUEEN YASSSSSSS
ahaha at 02:57 everyone's faces and then Quin's.
I love this cover
mood = Kurt crying at the end
This was my first introduction to Kristin, and it changed my life forever.
Landmark performance / scene of the entire series.
Kristin is a f’n treasure! Love her Life!!
That note at the end.........MY GOODNESS!
Wtf Kristins voice is insane 🤩😍😍
Love to watch this every so often. Shows how far the cast has come over the years. But at this point in the show, you can really tell who has more experience in their craft. Kristin not only has technique but real emotion in her singing, timing and delivery. Glad I got to see her on stage!
Same deal when you hear Idina performing on the show
I think it was an interesting decision to have Chenoweth and Menzel sing on Glee. I'm not going to say any more.
Wonder what you're getting at here...😂
Well, if you're looking for actors who can sing, makes sense that you go to Broadway....
@@arx754 Lea was from Broadway before Glee
Whenever they both sing “win” at the same time it gives me chills like omg.
Just, Kristin is an awesome performer, so much talent and emotion, she makes you feel what she's singing, the writers too, it helps knowing her background, it makes it more personal. Lea has a terrific voice too, those high notes, it's a hard song to sing.
All the people commenting on the clarinet in the comments, I love your purity. God, Kristin Chenoweth just packs so much emotion into her delivery. This song is such a great fit for her~
Weird to pause it at 2:59 and see the full cast alive and well.
"Maybe this time I'll win"
RIP Cory, Mark and Naya.
That performance deserved a standing ovation👏🏽👏🏽
2:41 she was preparing for slayage.
That hair toss is perfect
It’s been over 11 years and Kristin’s “HA HA” still snatches my edges every single time. LEGEND 🙌🏾
Aww, Kurt was adorable
When wasn't Kurt adorable?
Veronica Bennie dunno if you've seen the latest episodes, but he's started to lean more towards "hot"
True, but he'll always be adorable. It doesn't just fade away because of a different adjective.
Maybe this time, I'll be lucky
Maybe this time he'll stay
Maybe this time, For the first time
Love won't hurry away
He will hold me fast
I'll be home at last
Not a loser, huh
Anymore
Like the last time and the time before
Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loved me
Lady peaceful, lady happy
That's what I long to be
All the odds are
They're in my favor
Something's bound to begin
It's gonna happen ha ha
Happen sometime
Maybe this time I'll win
Cause, everybody, they love a winner
So nobody loved me
Lady peaceful, lady happy
That's what I long to be
All the odds are, they're in my favor
Something's bound to begin
It's gonna happen
Happen sometime
Maybe this time
Maybe this time
I'll win
I'll win
Win!
Maybe this time I'll be lucky
Maybe this time he'll stay
Maybe this time for the first time
Love won't hurry away
He will hold me fast
I'll be home at last
Not a loser anymore
Like the last time and the time before
Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loved me
Lady peaceful
Lady happy
That's what I long to be
Well, all the odds are, they're in my favor
Something's bound to begin

this whole cast is so lucky they got to be graced with her presence! i saw her in concert like a decade ago and met her! she is iconic!!!
Damn, typed in Glee duets and this one was like 200 down the list. Come on people, this is the Hit.
Amazing, Kristen Chenoweth is just amazing, so talented
Glee really had the ability to turn classics into another gold rendition without butchering it
I've been watching this regularly for years and tears.....every....bloody..... time
Must be a decade since this performance and oh my gawd it still rocks my head!!
They kill this
One of best covers I've ever heard! Damn I love the old glee.
Most amazing performance of Glee.
cabaret is one of my favorite musicals and this is my favorite rendition of this song
Kristen Chenoweth, can break every window in my house as long as I get to hear her sing that note in real life
i remember watching this on tv, how many years ago and just being completely captivated by kristin. rewatched it today and nothing has changed.
Fun fact: Chris Colfer was actually tearing up
Thank you for posting this video on TH-cam. Wonderful performances by both of the respective-singers and all of the musicians involved in the production of the song.
God D*mn... it isn't an easy thing to so clearly outclass Lea Michele in a performance but she freakin did it
