    Nice explanation but where are you using those huge spinners?

    • @HotRodJenPinstriping
      @HotRodJenPinstriping  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i do a lot of fire truck gold leaf repair work that sometimes require those big spinners most of the time i have to adjust the size of them on the fly, since its insurance work and i'm a contractor for the facility there is a lot of that work i'm not able to share via the internet :) but its pretty cool to use those big spinners!

    What clear coat do you use over imitation gold and silver leaf? I used rust-Oleum acrylic lacquer gloss crystal clear in a can from the auto store. It looks like it started to dissolve the leaf some or it really showed a lot of mistakes? That’s just after one full wet coat.

    • @HotRodJenPinstriping
      @HotRodJenPinstriping  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a automotive 2k clear coat with no reducer. If your clear started to eat up your leaf/show mistakes chances are 1. your sizing was too wet at the time you laid the leaf. 2 you had holidays-holes or gaps where there was open areas of size showing. Or 3. You burned thru the leaf when burnishing (which usually is because of number 1). 4. Not waiting long enough between leafing and clearing. And 5. The product you used may have had a really hot solvent in it which attacked the oil size under the leaf if the sizing was still tacky.

    What is the best for polymer clay with fake silver leaf as sealer? I love the matte look on some clay pieces and I would like to the look to stay about the same. Which sealer would be best for a matte finish and gloss finish on the fake gold and silver leaf on polymer clay pieces? By the way great video. Very informative!

    Do you have to use the 3m trizact sandpaper? Or can you use any 3000 grit paper?

    • @HotRodJenPinstriping
      @HotRodJenPinstriping  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i never tried straight up 3000grit sand paper but seems like the trizact or something like it where its more of a foam pad would be better

    Giusto Manetti 23 K spins quite well .The real gold is easier than fake . Do a search on eBay for gilding tools for a nice set of spinners. Water based is crap for other type work . Important; Always make a test section of size to check for dryness. this way you keep knuckle marks out of the size and have a test area

    I found in my sign box an old loose leaf 23 carrot pack from the mid 60's that had a price sticker on it for $6.95??? There are about 6 sheets left in it so I'm not using it, just saving it for any students to see..
