I'm not sure I'd call bild lilly an inspiration...it's more like Ruth took bild lilli copied her completely (only changed the shoes to be removable/also gave her rooted her) and slapped the barbie name on it. Mattel bullied lilli's creators into giving the rights up to them.☹️ Really sad story for the bild lilli creator. That said, I do collect Barbies. I'm happy the truth is finally coming out about Barbies true origins. You are so so lucky to have had an original bild lilli doll. I hope one day I can have one too. I agree with you. I was trying to keep the video light and happy without going into the controversial side of things. Rolf Hausser should have received more credit for creating this doll. So sad he lost his cases in court to fight this. I have read that it has bothered him his whole life. It is truly sad. Thank you so much for your comments. 🙏😢

Lilli was a secretary. A freewheeling secretary, but a lady should be allowed some self-indulgent fun. ;) Otherwise all the Ladies in How to marry a millionaire are callgirls too. 😊

Omg the doll is gorgeous!! I don't think Lilli was a call girl, in fact the comics don't seem to show any distinct job for her. But i do love how witty and racy the comic strips are 😂 Lilli was a piece of cake for sure!

My Mom has a Lilly my mom swars shes a barbie, but after looking more at her, shes a Lilly, with her painted shoes.

Oh my goodness how fabulous all of this is and so lovely to have the book with her photo showing her. Honestly I don’t think I would have been able to part with her but she certainly found the right owner for sure! 🥰💖😍♥️
It was a little hard to let her go but I really wanted Lilli to be with a collector who specifically collected and appreciated the Bild Lilli dolls. She was a little too precious and a piece of history. It was fun to play a part in her story!💕🥰 Thank you for your nice comments DoriesDollies!
That was NO inspiration. Like many toy makers at the time, she outright stole the whole doll design. (My German grandma really got steamed over it) lol Threatened with a lawsuit, Mattel made a deal and bought the rights. That said, I was wondering if you have a picture of her being sold with a poodle? Visiting my grandmother in Germany in the 70's, she gave me a small grey poodle and told me it originally came as part of a Bild Lilli set. I still have it and I've always wondered if that was true.
Thank you for adding to the conversation, whatanitemare. It's true that the idea of Barbie was more "stolen" rather than "inspired by" the Bild Lilli doll. Rolf Hausser sadly did not win his lawsuit against Mattel. It is up to us to tell his story. I'm grateful to viewers who share the not-so-pretty side of Lilli's story. Yes, I have seen Lilli pictured with a small gray poodle! How nice of your grandmother to give that to you. 😄 🥰

Back then a woman wasn't supposed to have a career and was expected to be submissive to her husband. Downtown Abby, Lady Grantham said that a woman didn't have an opinion until her husband told her what it was. That mindset carried until more recent times. Young women, you have it so much easier because of those women

I have my original Bild Lilli 11.5 doll wearing nurse. Lucky I found one at Goodwill.

I've heard of this doll. Really enjoyed seeing some of her photos! She is quite the character with her high forehead and great makeup! Her original hair-do is so pretty and soft looking-I can see why the complicated curl in front and curls in her ponytail were not practical for Barbie. Such detail in her fashions. I always loved the striped black/white fabric used. What a treat to have once owned Lilli! Lucky you!😊 Thank you for sharing!

Can’t believe u lucked out on a lilli! They must be outstandingly hard 2 find in good quality. It’s sad 2 know how warped her history is & I wish it was known more.

Yes, I tend to agree. She was a secretary who dated older men for money, which isn't the same as a call-girl. I have read different interpretations of her "career path" Thank you so much for your comment! ☺

I just purchased the Bild Lilli doll here in the USA from the original owner out of Conn. I have not seen it yet, due to arrive in a day or 2. At this point. I am keeping my fingers crossed she is the real deal. Reason of my concern is the price I paid for her. not even close to what the Narrator stated she sold her doll. If it is the doll, I struck it good. I had a doll distributor on Ebay look at the pictures that were posted, by her confidence, I pulled the trigger and click to buy.

I’m glad you liked the video. I know they made the Lilli dolls in both sizes. There is a really good Bild Lilli group on Facebook. It’s called Bild Lilli Queen of the 50’s.

The book was actually published by Peter Isler and yes we should congratulate him on a wonderful picture book of the Lilli dresses!
Build Lillie included bubble cut version that came out before the build gave up their rights.

Ray Krock did the same to the original McDonald's family, with no future compensation at all fir essentially stealing their company and ideas. Ray had the audacity to name a burger after one of the original owners. Hence, the big Mac. What a blantant public slap in the face AFTER he stole the company from them BTW

She is beautiful. I don’t think I could have parted with her. The Lillie I have seen on EBay are not as nice.
Thank you so much! She is a beauty and I enjoyed her for a while in my collection, but I think she deserves more than I could give. She is getting spoiled with her new owner. She will always be a part of my doll collecting story. That's why making this video was so much fun!

Pls check your facts. Mattel didn't bother to alter Lillian's face.
I am aware that Mattel was more than “inspired” by Bild Lilli. There was a law suit that the original creator Rolf Hausser unfortunately did not win. It is sad that he lost the rights to his doll. Thanks for your comment.
