The patrol is really popular here in Australia. Most of the competition off-road vehicles are patrols. Huge aftermarket accessory industry here also. Hope you enjoy your ride
To be honest , if they had offered those in the US with the turbo diesel , i would have gone after one ( especially with the right hand steering ) . Really cool truck . Oops , almost forgot , Merry Christmas everyone

The Nissan Patrol with Td42 are still well sort after here in Australia , because they are so reliable and well built . the engine is built very well . Way better built than a Jeep . Farmer loved the drop side flat tray with steel frame tray with wood floor .same as the Toyota land cruiser . The Td42 diesel or Tb42 petrol. The td42 was standard non turbo these engines started in mid 80s . A later engine was a 2.8 and 3.0 lt disel turbo which were a bucket of trouble . bad head over heating ,turbo problems . In Australia Ford had a rebadged patrol call a ford Maverick for a few years
Fun fact : back in the day like 15 years ago, i bought a set of 16" Mickey Thompson wheels with 33" tires to put on my newly acquired 97' silverado. The guy i bought them from pulled up in a Patrol just like yours. They apparently fit the same wheels. But i guess you already found that out. Cool to see a patrol in the us. They are common here, many a friend of mine has has one. Great offroaders, they just rust out quickly in our conditions. Merry Christmas from Denmark
I’ve always wanted one of those! They’re awesome. I bought my wife a Nissan xterra which we really like and it’s held up great. Definitely would like to see more of this vehicle
I absolutely love the patrol and wish they were easier to buy here. I'm satisfied with my frontier for now though. You can use titan parts with aftermarket parts to make an absolutely stout truck that handles well offroad.
Not gonna lie, I'm totally jealous. I love the old Nissan Patrols, but I'm never going to go spend the money have one imported. I'll just stick with my 87 F250 6.9 idi 4x4 project.
Having lived abroad, I am familiar with the Patrol and always wished I could have had one. Almost did: found an old one in a wrecking yard but it was too far gone with rust. I drove a 2wd crew cab Nissan 4 cylinder diesel truck in the Philippines and loved it! Do I think Nissan should have jumped through the government’s hoops? No, I think the gummit should have butted out. It works for the rest of the world, good enough for me and better than a lot of the old junk still on the road here.
I watch alot of offroad and camping vids from content creators across the pond and alot of them have amazing diesel SUVs and small pickups. One of my favorites is a Finnish girl with a Diesel Nissan Frontier. Its infuriating how many amazing vehicles that we will simply never see here and you hit the nail right on the head. Nissan has a great vehicle that sells very well everywhere else. Why deal with PITA USA to sell a small share.. Great vid, Quentin!
When I first saw the GU Patrol with the coil spring rear I tried to figure out why it had such a large displacement engine when it can’t tow or haul a competitive amount of weight … with out having the excuse of luxury … and I’m still doing that … even with my much improved and expansive acceptance of vehicle design and function … but yeah product differentiation … I like the heirloom rainbow carrots better that the boring orange ones 😊😮 long story
There is at least one of these RH drive Nissans roaming streets of Pinehurst, NC. There also a few RH drive cars I have seen with out of state tags. They have you doing a double take when you first see them.
Having owned a landcruiser and now having a patrol. I feel the patrol has the superior drivetrain. There's no one swapping Toyota axles into patrols....
Yes, I think that Nissan should have imported them to the U..S. I’ve seen these before on videos from Australia and wished that they could be purchased here. I don’t go for frills when buying a pickup. I currently drive a F350 XLT but before that it was a Chevy work truck and the two before that were F150 XL’s
Don’t cook it TD42 AKA THE KETTLE poor cooling system The saying in Australia is I’d rather buy a Kmart kettle it’s cheaper and it’s not stuffed after 1 boil
I had talked to someone in Australia an he has a Toyota Landcruiser with a 4cylinder turbo charge diesel cat power plant an it gets good fuel mileage and if we had these out here everyone would be driving them...😎💯✌also they are built heavy duty style like they weight a lot.
The saddest part about the USA is that USA didn’t get the mid sized diesel pickups/suv’s. The sales would have been high if the USA would have built the diesel powered pickups past the early 1980s. I remember being in high school and seeing many of the Datsun pickups along with the Chevy Luv and other makers but they abruptly disappeared.
Americans didn't really want diesel engines back then. Chevy offers a 2.8 diesel in the Colorado and canyon and they are dropping the diesel option for the upcoming next generation because of the low sales.
Got a 93 single cab with the 4.2 and 5 speed over in Aus the old patrols and cruisers weren’t really designed for speed they were designed to drive and be used as a small truck really, weapon of a rig though mate
They for sure should have sold the Patrol here. That would have put a dent in how many ppl jumped on the toyota band wagon.lol I actually have the front 3rd member from a Patrol in my Pathfinder with a Diamond housing, running 39.5s.
Nice! What about parts (engine and other mechanical pieces (like brakes)?) I imagine you have to see if Infinity has them or order from Australia or similar?

I would have bought one! They have a history of being very reliable and pretty much bomb-resistant! Good video !!
As an Aussie it’s weird seeing that in the USA.
Excellent buy!! They're not common here in Jamaica either, but very rugged. Very strong drivetrain.
What a great job with your audience engagement Iron King. Keep that up.

Has your radiator failed and filled your transmission with coolant yet because Nissan is very well known for that.
My son had one in Perth Australia great truck never broke down great on fuel
I cant believe how well mine does on fuel, way better than my dodge 3500

Thanks!

I’d love to have a 70 series Ute. Wouldn’t be opposed to a 40 or a 45 either.

I like this truck and would maybe buy one if the price was right. I would have remained with the 16in. tires thought for many everyday reasons. Chow.
Merry Christmas everyone I saw them in Central and South America in the 80s I'd definitely buy over a Toyota land cruiser
I have done many kilometres in them. We had them for work trucks out in Western New South Wales. The 4.2 was as solid engine. Never an issue.
I’ve heard that they may have overheating issues but that’s never happened to me
The smaller capacity yes. Water jackets too small for hot climates. Never had an issue with 4.2 and got mid to high 40s Celsius out there

Patrol evolved into what is now sold in the US as the Armada. (I lusted after the pre-1993 Aussie Patrols for years)
Classic old Aussie rig, glad you yanks are finally catching on.

The late 90s and early 2000s ford full-size are the best trucks ever made hands down
For drive-line strength - Nissan Patrol every time. Much larger and stronger components than it's direct competitor, the Landcruiser.

Trust you'll care for it unlike another TH-camr who got Japanese cars and pickups with right hand drive and went from there.
I’d like to see how the back is chopped?
I can definitely do a better in depth video of that process

You should barra swap it. The aussies do that. Suppose to give more power.
That would be cool
well done they solid in au

Nice truck, who did the modification to the body and how much work involved?
I had a local company in bend oregon perform the body chop
I would have definitely rather have that than a Nissan Pathfinder
