-The Netherlands has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 60 times since making its debut as one of the seven countries at the first contest in 1956. The country has missed only four contests, twice because the dates coincided with 4 May Remembrance of the Dead (1985, 1991) and twice because of being relegated due to poor results the previous year (1995 and 2002). -Corry Brokken is the only performer to win the competition and come last the following year when Netherlands are host -Netherlands is the first country that won competition more than once.(1957,1959)
and they also didnt televote/ partly broadcasted a eurovision song contest in 2000 because of the Enschede Firework disaster with the reason being. We dont want to broadcast a partly show on such a traumatic day
First ever song (the Birds of Holland) which started the show in 1956, but the Netherlands also had the first singer from Asian descent (1964) and the first black singer (1966).
My favorites are their winning entry in 1969,1975, 2019. Then - 2020, 2016,2015,2014,2013,2018. The best 4 me is 2020/2014/2013/1969 i can't choose +Edsila Rombley (she represented them in 1998 and 2007) - will be moderating the contest as well. + Netherlands did not qualified 8 years in a row.
-Netherlands' first dark age was 60's until their victory in 1969.They came last 3 times out of 9 contests. And in remaining 6 contests they were always bottom. -Second dark age was between 2005-2012 with non-qualification streak. In 2013 they took place in final after 8 years and Anouk gave the country its first top 10 placing since 1999. -After that except 2015 they took place in the final every year and this success crowned with the victory in 2019. Duncan Laurence brought the country its 5th overall victory (tying with France, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom) and first win in 44 years with his song "Arcade".
The Netherlands is one of the clearest epitomes of how serious Eurovision and eurofans have become compared to the 00's. They tried something fun/positive/ethnic in 2009, 2010, 2012 and flopped in the very bottom. And then... Anouk appeared with a sleepy love ballad and reached the top 10 in 2013, Common Linnets became 2nd somehow while they wasn't in the final in odds before the contest (don't get me wrong, I like the song, it's just a bit lower than 2nd place for me), Duncan won in 2019 with a ballad too. I actually like every Dutch song since 2016, they're all in my top 10 (or at least top 15). Unpopular opinion, but my favourite is Waylon's return (2018), so cheerful, sounds great, like from some American movie, the lyrics with a good message, his voice is incrediblle as always, the staging is controversial but I personally like it too, at least they did the best without LED screens.
Enjoy so many Dutch entries, but my favourite is their newest entry, 2020. Grow has become one of my favourite ESC songs ever. It's magical... I just love it
@@esc9726 I voted for Grow as well. I feel like I had my Arcade moment (being moved to tears by the lyrics of the Netherlands' song) with Grow instead.
awwww...guys..I apparently like the Netherlands a LOT more than you guys did. I have so many choices here. I have to give Ding a Dong the top spot because i've loved it since a child, with "Birds" a decent second, "Heaven and Earth" third, "Calm Before the Storm" fourth, and "vrede" fifth. Cheers, 2sc (e)
There's probably only four songs from the Netherlands that I genuinely love (Cry no more, Calm after the storm, Outlaw in 'em, and Grow), but that being said, those four songs made voting for my favorite nearly impossible. I love all four of them for wildly different reasons, and being forced to choose between them was torture (went with Grow, but ask me again in an hour and I might go with any of the other three).
Ahh the Netherlands, many favs here... but my nr 1 is still Maribelle in 84 - but sooo many of the others are really lovely... Ruth Jacott is my close 2nd :)

Outlaw in 'em was in my top 3 that year. I wasn't a fan of the staging, but otherwise I can't find a single thing to fault it for.
