What hit me the most is the fact these people working on G.A.I.A. are all working for a future they will never see or experience and for a race of humans who they will never meet and will never get the thanks they deserve. They worked tirelessly and there is that chance that it all might not work. What they could've felt and thought during all this makes me shiver.
What’s crazier is all the other people on earth fighting for a superweapon that’ would never come. Just acting as meat shields to buy the scientists as much time as possible to finish their work. Imagine having THAT hanging over your head as you work comfortably in a bunker while everyone else is eaten by machines outside.
Post apocalyptic games have always the best storylines, you always wonder what happened and what went wrong, so you search far and wide finding pieces of history until it all makes sense and you are left stunned and kinda traumatized thinking of the horrors that came before you

And my one redeeming act - if any - was to delay that extinction by days or weeks by throwing more death at it. It is my hope that there will be no need for men like me in the world to come. If you are one of the people of that future world, listening to this message, please know that I am sorry, and that I wish you well. Sincerely, *Aaron* Herres"

The Faro robots fought in game are 1000 years old and barely functional. And there are a *lot* fewer of them As forGAIA’s robots they aren’t war machines so aren’t designed to be overly durable
The robots you kill effectively stay dead, even though they're replaced (the respawn). And the "few people with arrows and spearheads" mostly had to content with the peaceful robots. You saw in the game that even a Sawtooth was a real challenge for them. Aloy can do it with relative ease as the focus allows her to see where the parts connect and can thus attack more effectively. The Faro robots were an entirely different thing. It's also only after GAIA blows herself up that the more lethal robots start appearing due to HEAPHASTUS defending the system and creating hunter companions for the more peaceful cleanser robots. And turning them overall more aggressive. There's no pothole in this. It only sounds that way due to you reducing a complex issue to a simple soundbite. Reality is a lot more complicated than more people on average know.
