  • An interview session with Mr. Dayo Adekunle, the Director of zone 18, office of the quality assurance, Lagos State. Quality assurance is a more friendly regulatory body that involves all stakeholders in education to bring about the standard in Lagos State which took off in 2015.
The body regulates the quality of teaching and learning in education. The body carries out a comprehensive whole-school evaluation which takes three days with adequate notice to the school. The body monitors examinations in public and private schools.
When the body goes out for whole-school evaluation, they are expected to look into seven key areas which are: Achievement and standard, Learners' personal skills and participation, Teaching and Learning, curriculum and other activities, Care guidance and safety, Learning environment, Leadership, and Management.
For achievement and standard, the visited school will need to present three years of internal and external results with self-evaluation. For other activities, the body does not need to inform the school. The body monitors 75% of the subject they offer in the visited school in order to give an adequate report that will stand the test of time.
There are four grades in evaluation: Outstanding, Good, Fair, Poor. If a school comes out poor after evaluation the quality assurance will raise the profile of the school through intervention programs and training.
