I guess the first is a Squier Jazz Bass, the second is iconic and I think everybody knows it. Both of them sound amazing. And nowadays it's easily possible to "emulate" the sound of Rickenbacker using effects and some adjustments on the height of the strings. Cool riff, man!
Even "cheap" new Fender basses are expensive these days. It still sounds like a jazz bass. And old Rickenbackers still sound thin and farty unless you're really willing to twiddle dials to really zero in on a fatter tone. I wouldn't own either.
The only thing i see different is the second one sounds brighter and cleaner. What pickup are u using? What amp? ThY has a LOT to do with it. I have a Ibanez GIO thats sounds better than that the super expensive one. Way cleaner.. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Old expensive basses sounds are massed produced these days, for cheap.
I think the "musical world" is the only place where people think that the older models are superior. You can also spend the same amount of money as the vintage Ric, on a new bass from a master builder and have a totally superior instrument.

Comparing a Rick to a Fender Jazz of any price point is silly. You proved what we've known a long time. Those two basses don't sound alike. Good job.

I also prefer the warm beds of the jazz bass. Never been a fan of funky twangy bass.

@@riogrande163 He's no exception. He made the best of it. But late period Beatles bass tone never struck me as something to emulate.
I actually just played a vintage 4001 in a shop the other week. It was lightweight, which was nice. But the tone just didn't impress me at all.
Where they recorded on the same level? , the jump on the "noise floor" had me like😮

Amen. I started playing in 1973 and both Fender and Gibson made plenty of "dogs" back then too.

The neck of the first bass need to fixed seems like the angle is off . the cheap one fail miserably to look old and expensive . 😂
