    You did a nice job on the bike. I own 2 of these. Mine are the XS1100's. One of mine is a Midnight Special, that one is a complete restore. You can see pictures of it on a group called Yamaha Nation. These are great bikes. Both of mine were basket cases when I got them but not anymore. I love the color of your bike.

    For the very best front light, find an old BOSH head beam with 55/80 watts H-4 bulb. . . you'll love it

    Best place to get the electrical parts from is Rick's Stator in New Hampshire. They really know what they are doing .

    Has the 'second gear' circlip problem been addressed on this bike? Yamaha went cheap on the circlip on the end of the transmission layshaft, and as a result repeated shifting would slam the layshaft around and bend the circlip. This would allow the layshaft to move further and further, until the gear dogs for 2nd gear no longer meshed. At that point you have a 'ghost' second gear.
    The fix is easy if you have the right tools and a little dexterity. Drain the oil, remove the transmission inspection cover, and using a bent needlenose pliers, remove the bent circlip and replace it with TWO circlips. Replace cover, refill the oil, and ride. The two circlips together keep the 'bending' action to a minimum.
    (Altho with the low mileage, you probably haven't even come close to bending the circlip yet.)

    Thanks for the info. Sorry, but one more question: I bought the Delkevic headers (still in the box)based on your earlier installation video. You mentioned they are quite loud. Too loud for a 70+ year old with questionable hearing?

      The system will sound amazing; you will need ear plugs. My bike sounds like a Formula 1 car!

    I bought mine used a 1978 xs750. She had 10k miles and expired in a fire in our town with 89k miles. After the fire some parts were reusable. I found another one, same model for $250.00 with 11k mileage and very clean. Everything was rebuilt to specks. The carb syncing with vacuum gauges and replacing the 3 Diaphragm Assembly's in the carbs is a must have, 2F3-14940-00-00. After 40 years these are DEAD, replace them with NEW ones. This is all very important when slowing down to prevent the shot gun effect that will harm the motor. I like the long runs and during hot days you can hear knocking going on when you get off a HWY run like 100 miles. The xs850 has the oil cooler on them and the 750 will work too. It's a must have to reach 89k with no problems. My bike has a full dress, 3-1 exhaust, cruise control , Vetter Windjammer tall windshield with leg lowers and the Vetter sound system with small amp with micro-card music to headphone in helmet, speakers when stopped, front forks springs upgrade, crash bar with spot light's, saddle bags, the large Vetter trunk and a Saddlemen King/ Queen seat with my back rest mod, and Rear air shocks with air compressor. All this is heavy, but she rides without hands on.
    A few more note's with all this weight:
    Use the 850 slotted brake disk's, the non-slot's suck.
    Use tubes in Both tires, for the rear one get the thick tube. It takes a lot of pain to insert the front tire tube without punching a hole in it, the back is easy to install. USE THE TUBES, don't be fooled, got a rear flat once and tube's saved her and me.
    My bike road from California to Florida and back three times. Just a few more miles was 90k and still she looked like NEW until the fire.

      Wow - that’s a ton of great information, and getting to 89k is huge. I appreciate you taking the time to sure your experience and advice. I’ll have to find some new diaphragms soon. 3x across the country is some serious touring!!!

      @@pushrodfury6644 The Diaphragm Assembly is easy if you do it right. Spray WD40 on old one and pull it out of slider.. Spray WD40 on the new rubber and make sure you clock them in the same spot- very important. Get the new one wet with WD40 and start to put on slider using a credit card to push it all the way in very slowly. If your clock timing is in the wrong place you can move the Diaphragm around a bit. I know a lot about this bike. Hit me up if you have any question's. Forgot to say, 850 pull back bars too relax.

    Great looking 750. I'm currently resurrecting a 78 xs750e and wondering if I can run the Dunlop 404s tubeless. Your caption indicated yours are tubeless, any problems?

      Hi David, Thank you! Although the rims are supposed to be used with tubes, I have only used tubeless and have over 1000 miles on them now. What's funny is my sportster video where I show how to prevent the factory tubeless rims from leaking, but the leaks keep coming back!!!

    How are the carbs jetted? I mostly see pod filters available, so I may just go with the K&Ns myself. I will also look at the delkevic exhaust since the original mufflers on my 750 are rotted out.

      Before jetting, make sure you verify the following: Resistance of Sparkplug Wires is correct; Boots are not cracked; Vacuum ports on intake have new plugs. Valve Clearance is correct. Float height is set to specification in manual. I only replace the Main jet with a 145. It is also important to remove and clean the fuel nozzles AKA needle jets. Bench sync the carbs to make sure they are mechanically opening the same amount. Start testing bike with the fuel screws 2 turns out. You will find the center cylinder will run a bit rich, so you may need to turn that screw in a 1/2 - 1 full turn more than the Left and Right Cylinders. One other tip is to paint a small dot with high temp paint on each exhaust pipe close to the head. You can take temp reading using a infrared thermometer. This will save you hours of headaches trying to figure out if all cylinders are running at the same temperature. Too hot = lean, too cold = rich. After all this you should sync them with vacuum gauges. I have been able to put 1500 miles on my bike since getting it dialed in and it runs perfectly, can carry a passenger and sounds like a GP bike.       @@pushrodfury6644 thank you so much. I’m in the process of doing a bit of a resto-mod on a ‘77 XS750 2D, so all of this will certainly be gone over. Definitely a full mechanical restoration. The only thing I’m not touching are the beautiful side covers and gas tank.

      @@pushrodfury6644 Did you make any adjustments to the needle clip settings? I have a 79 750 with freshly rebuilt top end with 2nd OS pistons and currently running 137.5's and think I'm running a little small on the mains..

      @@huskerbeaver I have the needles in the stock position and running 145 mains. I tried 142.5 but it was too lean. Your middle fuel screw will not need to be out as far as the outers. Makes sure you read the temperature at the to of the exhaust pipe where it attaches to the head. I am around 290F +/-10F

      @@pushrodfury6644 Thanks for the response. I switched out to the 145's last night. Too wet to ride it but it did seem to have better throttle response. I was getting around 285-295 on the outer cylinders but considerable cooler (220F) on the middle cylinder. I will keep adjusting the middle cylinder leaner to see if I can get it up to the same temp.

    Is there any fork lock on these? I picked one of these up in a 79 a couple days ago. Fortunately it runs quite well, previous guy did some good on mine before selling. I'm optimistic this thing will be easier than the Buell I had, couldn't reach many things on the Buell.

      It's always better to start with a bike that runs! Yes, the ignition key locks the steering. You have to turn the handle bars and engage the lock by turning the key counterclockwise

I guess my biggest question is: did you just connect to wires in the headlight bucket as Allen alluded to? If so are there some wires better than others?       I made an adapter that allowed me to plug directly into an existing connector. I think I used the headlight positive. I'd suggest using a positive that reads as close to battery voltage as possible when the bike is running.

      Hi David, That can be a trick question because distance from source will greatly impact the decibel level. With that said, the exhaust is so freakin loud, it is out of control. (this is with all the baffles in)

      You need to save and reuse your mounting crews and sealing washers. There isn't a good alternative to the stock hardware. The petcocks work great though!

      Ones? I bought a pair offline before and the base of the new petcocks where it mounts to the tank were quite a bit shorter. Looks that way in the picture too.
