      Use it as a starting point then mutate it to suit your needs.

    Very helpful video. I don’t do a ton of video these days and am sort of new to Canon and their terminology. The R7 is a really nice video camera. Actually take away the shutter issues and it’s one of my favorite cameras all time.

    Scott outstanding video, FYI, when choosing LUTS, the viewfinder will emulate your choice, and you must use clog, i always use BT709. I use C3 for almost exact video use,except i choose people eye detect. I use C2 for stills in M mode with Animal eye detect, and C1 for stills in M mode for people eye detect. I also use the toggle dial for iso in all three modes. I do limit my ISO settings to just 100-6400 by default!
    I always set WB to auto in all settings
    Good vids sir, hope the subs keep climbing!

      Thanks.
      Good info. Pretty much any how, I always look at them as a starting area to understand the settings Moree then mutate it to my needs and feel.

    Great video...thanks Scott! I finally got my R7 and used it all weekend. Somehow I missed the ability to do 4k60 without going to 4k crop so I am glad you pointed that out. Now the only reason to switch to my R5 for video is if I want 4k120 for slow motion.

      @@WILDALASKA I tried setting C3 to 4k60 but when I have the dial in "on" mode, and click the red recording button it records 4k30. Can you get that button to do 4k60 while the dial is in On mode?

    Thanks for the help here. I can’t seem to save 120/ high frame as a custom function 3 despite following these steps. Is it not possible as Cf3?

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  ปีที่แล้ว

      So the fun part is you can only set the high frame rate on the switch over to video. Same on R10.
      So I set the switch to video and set it for high speed and then on the Manual stills mode set that to 4k 24fps.
      So now I have it set :
      If I want 4k24fps then manual stills and record button
      If I was 1080p 120 fps I switch the camera to vide and hit the record button.
      Hope that helps.

    Thanks Scott for a very comprehensive video. I just have an issue with the camera shooting video when the dial is selected to “ON”. I doesn’t seem to be filming with the settings I set for C3 (eg eye detection and movie servo etc). When I have it switched over to video, the c1-c3 settings are as I set them. When I hit the REC button whilst switched to “ON” it seems to show up with Single point focus. Any suggestions with solving this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again.

      I havent used the c1-3 swiotch over to on the dial.
      I set my settings for manmmual stills and also set the move quality I want.
      Then on thye movie slide over on the on switch i set my second prefered video settings there.
      That gives me 2 modes of filming.
      Everything else seems to not stick as well and i just need the 4k 24fps and the 1080p 120fps for my filming needs

      @@WILDALASKA Ah thanks. I think that was my issue. I didn't set the video whilst on manual stills and save as C3 stills not C3 video. Thanks Scott!

    So I notice you were talking about changing those chromatic aberration settings on for video but you were in the photo tab not the vide tab. Does the r7 have a separate vide menu or you will have to go back and change all that for photos? Thanks

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes under stills you change it and under video you change it. also make sure your in manual mode for these set ups to make sense

    Hi, I need to turn HIGH FRAME RATE on to have a fluent movie, else it is shaky . . . correct?

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  ปีที่แล้ว

      no. high frame rate is only to get the 120fps

  • @revmarshall

    Is there a way to get the R7 to keep the exposure settings when switching from still to video? Or do I just have to re-expose every time?

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Short answer..no kinda..
      If you hit the record button while in stills it should stay if your in manual mode.
      When you switch over to record it will be in whatever mode you have the video settings saved in. I have it set to record in manual. So my framerate is from whatever I used last time and the ISO is set to auto and then i quickly adjust from there.

    What’s your take on AWB vs AWB-W? For stills AWB-W is more to my liking, I haven’t compared it in video mode yet.

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For video, you want to get as much in camera set to you liking as there's not as much adjusting after the fact in video editing software. If you shoot clog3 then AWB isn't as much an issue. But again get it right in cam, press editing if its off afterwards. And WB is subjective to what conditions you shoot in. AWB-W is more an indoor setting I think, don't quote me. Some days I shoot cloudy setting others its day, and if I'm lazy its AWB.
      For stills, WB is just subjective if shooting RAW, as you can adjust it completely in post. If you shoot JPEG which I don't suggest myself then you need to set a good WB in camera.

    The R6 doesnt have All-I so only option is IPB & IPB light. IPB light is very easy on the computer and have found no difference in quality, colors, or sharpness, so that’s what I like now if All-I isn’t an option

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very cool. I'll have to try the light version for a few videos myself.
