  • The simple but beautiful song composed by Charlie Chaplin in 1936 (instrumental version was used in his movie "Modern Times"). Lyrics have been made later in 1954 based on the texts used by Charlie Chaplin in the movie Modern Times. Interesting and important movie in which Charlie Chaplin comments on the bad aspects of the Industrial Revolution and the suffering of many people during the Great Depression. In the movie he tries to work as a factory worker in a factory with big dangerous machines. And then he falls in love with recently orphaned barefoot girl, Ellen. And in order to save her, he must let himself be sent to the Jail. In the last scenes he encourages her by saying that, despite all the hardship and suffering, she must always continue to smile. And in the last scene the run off together.
