Great build Pat and well done MadMatt on a great walk around. i dont often bother to comment on vids but to see a well built (even it was with sponsers etc) Amarok is a pleasure (god not another Toyyawn). I see the comments regarding carrying so much gear and i agree keep it simple but every build i see has great ideas, its not about adding all the fruit but adapting ideas to what suits you. By the way i have been driving a manual Amarok since 2012, Cape York, Vic High Country, The Simpson etc etc all with ease and 0 vehicle related issues (someone tried to steal one of my wheel in Swan Hill once, fell off at 110.... that was interesting!)

I’m often surprised at who can afford this sort of rig. Look around at some of the caravans and kit hauling around. The average rig setup is probably close to $200k

I noticed he only had normal mirrors on his Rok I have a 2017 Ultimate ( the wife demanded it be blue. I wasn't arguing 😊) and I put clear view mirrors on mine so I could extend them when towing my caravan out and around the bush

Pat hasn't proven anyone wrong about their thoughts on the Crappyrok, it's been heavily modified with a tonne of cash so now it's nothing like what you buy from the dealer. You could spend 1/3 of the buy and modify money and do the same to a 100 series landcruiser and end up with a better result but you'd be able to buy spare parts anywhere in Australia.
That comment applies to any Ute. For those of us who don’t want a 100 or 200 series and use our utes for everyday use, the Amarok is a great Ute, jus like a ranger
A "weak link" is only as good as the operator. If they don't see it's sheard and correct it what then ? Who's going to get down in the mud, sand water or rocks when your stuck to change a bolt ? But what a build. Good work Pat, can't wait to see the tv series.

i went a got a Amarok i wish i got a hilux know only got 9 days from the VW and the serpentine belt failure got me after 9 days 423.7km all i got 1/2 a tank of fuel i think they are crap the cost so much to fix mine be sitting there for a long time to come just to pay the money to fix it from what i got from my Amarok its best to stay away from this failure of a car.
@@MadMatt4WD yes mate 2nd hand 190000 on clock it was 2nd owner still the belt going into the timing belt cover did alot of damage why even put a cover over a serpentine belt what was vw thinking there i post i put on the Amarok Mod facebook page and then i seen lots of guys with some damaged motors to there motors and the story of big cost to fix them. i helping a guy part out a hole amarok this week he motor cooked from the EGR cooler problem they have get got hole car to part out from a crash for 11k to fix he's because they say 14k to fix he car so he got parts for sell if you need any.
You won't be buying a keg in Birdsville. I was there recently and was disappointed to find they have nothing on tap and only a few different cans at $10 each.

Whether we go out overnight or for a week wonkiest is the last thing I need. I want to see real. But I acknowledge that is boring.
It’s nice when your sponsored, but this is a poor choice for a full off road conversion platform , I hope that the average person doesn’t fall into the influenced delusion of the unsupported money trap that this vehicle is ,wait for the breakdowns that you’ll never publicly hear of . Ceramic cook tops useless. keg useless unless you’re an alcoholic. coffee machine useless , other than that the rear canopy and associated vehicle engineering is brilliantly thought out it’s a credit to the builders that were involved in this Frankenrok VW. Build of big dollars I think they have spent 150,000. 00 on this and it’s still something you’ll have to baby through full off road due to fear of driveline breakages.
@@MadMatt4WD Yeah it's not ideal really. The forward first gear is low enough. However if one was venturing down a steep rocky downhill track where you might have to back out in reverse, rather walk there and walk back :) My father in law has the 2.0 BiTDI with the 8 speed, we go camp on a game farm fairly often. We often take the Amarok for game drives as it is such a nice comfortable ride. When we venture down a particular track with a very steep and rocky decline, I always joke that I spot some buck and ask him to please back up a few meters. Works a treat every time :)
@@MadMatt4WD No. There is no backing up that hill in a Amarok 8speed. The reverse gear is not low enough. In fact it struggles to go up that hill even when we approach it going forward, the vehicle always makes it to the top, just not very elegantly as it seems to require some "pace" to keep the torque converter going. All that said, that is a terrible piece of track. I think my point remains. Don't go down something tricky and steep that you might need to back out of. If you unsure if there is a dead end, walk it first.
