      An inexpensive big corded Bauer Impact Wrench that you can get for $69 on a deal featuring 1050lbs of breakaway torque would take care of it first time around without having to belt to secure. Why on Earth would you use an impact driver for this job? At best that is suitable for moderate to small bolts.

      Sometimes a decent branded long handled ratchet or breaker bar can cost even more than the corded impact wrench I described. The thing about an impact wrench is it uses centripetal force to extract the bolt without any reinforcements needed to secure the surrounding moving structure.

      The best approach for this job is an impact wrench paired with a mass impact socket that transfers more efficient force from the wrench.

      Sometimes even a 3foot breaker bar won't do anything but dent the car and I've seen a Mac tools socket get split. This idea isolated and held it firm. He just wrenched it loose.
      Thumbs up.
      There's much discussion about needing more expensive impact wrenches and heavier mass Snap-On sockets.
      With this method, you can solve it faster and cheaply. You just need a belt most people throw away. One mans junk is ......
      It's not that tight on most engines, but once in a while you run across one that won't break loose. Some, like this one, you can't use the tried and true methods. This is a simple ingenious solution.

    A proper 1/2" impact wrench does this in about 1/2 second (battery or pneumatic). A 1/4" impact doesn't stand a chance and is a waste of time on a bolt that size. I guess judging which tool to use comes with experience. 👍😎👌

      @@lkytmryan btw my 1/2" pneumatic impact wouldn't touch the outer nut on my Cummins Ram front axle so I pu an HF 3/4" impact for around $70 and it worked in about 1/4 second. Can't beat a larger hammer and basically that's what is in an impact wrench. A little 1/4" like he was using is worthless on something like this.

    You need a pulley wrench to stop it from rotating or you risk damage !!!
    And your torque wrench is too small . Most crank pulley bolts are torqued very high like almost 200 lbs so a dinky wrench won’t work.
    Your crankshaft is leaking oil already which is a sign of damage to shaft and woodruff key and damage to your worn out timing chain and gears ⚙️
    AND NEVER REUSE THE BOLT !!! You need a new one since it is a “ torque to yield “ one time use only . It’s under $10 .

    Put a socket and breaker bar on a jack stand 90' to crank bolt , trun key quickly,...check results ..I've used this method many times it works if you set it up correctly

    I too ran into the "infamous" super-hyper-tight crankshaft bolt on an Acura integra, never did get it off.
    Has anyone tried a Torque multipler? There are torque multipliers on the market that can output 4275 ft lbs.....truckers use them all the time to take off stuck lugnuts on tires, with little effort.
    Look up torque multipliers on TH-cam and you'll find them boys remove high torque, over tightened, rusted up, stuck lugnuts with minimal effort.

    This is what I used to do long before youtube, lol... 2 points though... don't do this on cranks with a rubber isolater in the middle, sometimes it separates them, though that would make it close to replacement in my book, really... the other thing is DON'T use your ac pulley, use the closest idler pulley. No point in damaging the ac clutch or ps/water pump either.

    No more breaker bar from bolt to ground and click the starter.
    Your way is an easy way to loosen the bolt, and did you do the opposite with the belt to tighten the bolt?.

    Thanks for the video , I have a important question ? How do you troubleshoot a crankshaft pulley that is not aligned with all pulleys on a 2014 Honda Civic ex 1.8

    • @jfGarage4k
      @jfGarage4k  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take out the belt and wiggle the crank pulley, make sure no play around. Check the crankshaft bolt make sure its installed tight

    • @troy78552
      @troy78552 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jfGarage4k I did check belt off n its like back ⅛ or ¼" it needs to come forward ¼ or ⅛ " all pulleys alginate except crankshaft pulley n it's not loose or play its still

    How are you going to install the bolt the same way, that engine feels like it's locked up, the belt is made it of rubber it should have slight give to ityou know it should stretch the pulley did not even move.

    • @jfGarage4k
      @jfGarage4k  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True it has a slight movement because of the belt trick..
      What i do is after installing your timing components, make sure to remove the locking tools before you tight up the crank bolt with the belt trick holding the crank pulley

    I'd be concerned with the stress put on the rubber in the harmonic balancer and the stress on the AC compressor

    Hello,
    I own a 2014 Ford Escape 1.6 L- FWD, My engine failed due to being out of time. I order a used engine with 94000 miles on it, the engine was in working condition before being removed, I had it installed by a mechanic at a shop. However, within 1 minute of the car being started, there is a notification on the screen that read: High Engine Temperature Stop Safely. Upon scanning the following code came up P1299 Cylinder Head Over-temperature Protection Active. The coolant level sensor, the coolant temp sensor, and the Cylinder Head Over-temperature Protection sensor were replaced. The shop also reset the PCM however the issue is still there. The engine does not overheat while it is running from the data received on the tech computer. So far the tech at the shop told me the issue is electric and he will continue to work on it. My car does not have a remote start and is out of warranty.
    I would appreciate any opinions on resolving this issue.

    thanks for this belt tip video, while taking crank shaft pulley bolt from my 2012 ford escape v6, The shaft rotated reverse at least one full cycle since the belt was not tight , is there any timing issues will happen because of this?

    • @jfGarage4k
      @jfGarage4k  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Make sure the pulley and belt are clean and dry, No oil, mud or dirt in it. After wrapping the belt around the pulley make sure its tight around no slack at all. Good luck

  • @joaoc_PT
    @joaoc_PT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If said belt has more torque than the bolt.
    I used engine starter, Scotty trick.
    Also, not pre pinpointing engine positioning on that, not good idea.

    Have you not heard about a power bar and starter bump turn the engine over with a torsion bar wedged it bumps off that bolt !

    • @jfGarage4k
      @jfGarage4k  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This sounds sketchy. Ya i head about this long time ago, I never done it cuz of the bar and the engine spinning the nut haha

  • @notme22
    @notme22 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Please don’t ever do this! The crankshaft pulley is also called a harmonic balancer. It’s not a solid piece of steel but 2 pieces fused together with a piece of rubber and by doing this you can tear the outer pulley off the inner, worst case scenario. Best case scenario is your engine now vibrates more because you cracked the rubber and which diminished the dampening affects. Ask me how I know
